Government says it has made significant progress towards the full migration from analogue to digital television transmission in the country.

Chief government spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga says government is for this reason is making headways towards completing the digital migration of TV and radio signal countrywide.

Speaking when she inspected works at the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) transmission centre in Kasama today, Ms Mulenga expressed happiness with the progress made by the contractor at the site.

She says once the digital migration programme is completed, poor television and radio signal in the country will come to an end and in-turn improve access to information among the citizenry.

Ms Mulenga, who is also Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services minister added that the digital migration will also change the dynamics of the country’s public media.

Meanwhile, Ms Mulenga says her ministry will work tirelessly to ensure that the printing press at the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) provincial office in Kasama is operationalized.

The minister said it is unfortunate that the equipment at the printing press has been lying idle since 2010 owing to some technical challenges.

Ms Mulenga is on a tour of Northern Province to check on operations of private radio stations and preparations for digital migration in the region.
