ZOCS acquires 63,000 pairs of shoes for vulnerable children

The Zambia Open Community Schools ( ZOCS ) says it has given 63,480 pairs of school shoes worth K1.9 million to vulnerable children in community schools in seven districts of the country.

ZANIS reports that ZOCS Finance Manager Charity Mwansa says 39,395 shoes pairs of shoes worth K1.9 million in conjunction with the Child Fund International will be distributed in Kabwe, Kapiri Mposhi, Mkushi and Serenje districts in Central province.

The rest will be shared by Masaiti district on the Copperbelt Province, Chiawa and Chikankata Districts in Southern Province.

ZANIS reports that She said this during the launch of the distribution exercise at Makululu ‘C’ Primary School in Kabwe where 500 pairs of shoes were distributed.

“We have no doubt that the foot wear will not only give some children an opportunity and dignity to own a pair of shoes but will surely put smiles on the faces of our learners in community schools and many others who will benefit from the donation,” she said.

And Central Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Felix Mangwato says that government cherishes partnerships in the provision of quality education.

He said the donation will help children concentrate on their education as the shoes will boost their confidence.

Meanwhile Kabwe District Education Standards Officer for Special Education Ezilly Mwaanga said ZOCS had contributed immensely to the growth of the education sector through its support to community schools.

Ms Mwaanga also said the donation will boost confidence for the learners thereby improving performance in community schools in the district.
