A BUS station owned by expelled Patriotic Front (PF) central committee member Mwenya Musenge in Mansa, has been closed by the Mansa Municipal Council.

Mr Musenge, who is former Copperbelt minister and Chimwemwe PF Member of Parliament, last week received a letter from the council informing him to immediately close down his bus station because individuals were not allowed to own bus stations.

“Ififine balenchita akantu, kuti wachita shani? nabanguma amakofi mumbafu?” meaning “I am being victimised, what can I do? They have punched me in my ribs,” complained Mr Musenge.

Mr Musenge said people who were behind the closure of his bus station were claiming that he was a nonentity yet pining down his business.

“They are claiming we are nonentities yet paralysing our businesses. I have been written to by Mansa council that I have to close my bus station.

“I have a bus station of minibuses in Mansa, they move from Kitwe to Mansa,” he said.

Mr Musenge said he was shocked to be told to close down his bus station by the same local authority who gave him permission.

“I told them that you (Mansa Council) are the ones who authorised me start building and finished my bus station and it is the state of the art which cannot be compared to their stations. How can you do this?” Mr Musenge said.

Asked why the council asked him to close his bus station, Mr Musenge said he was informed that nobody was supposed to run a private bus station.

    • What the fucvk, my cousins just been telling about a plot right there for a “state of art” fish restaurant I planned to build right there.

    • Kindly restraint and more restraint a must. Avoid commingling politics with business. The economy is weak and unemployment is at combustible levels. Anything that brings positive multiplier effect in the economy must be protected. Doing so instil investor confidence and appetite. Mwenya has politically lost it, but he is also a Zambian with a family and chain of dependants to support. Spare his businesses. Time for HE President Lungu to stamp his authority on these overzealous cadres and arrest this kind of politics.

    • These are some of the issues the Minister of Labour and Social Security Joyce Simukoko should look at as she introduces the productivity policy that is meant to help improve the Zambian work culture.
Which serious investor will risk venturing into an environment that is littered with politics. Mind you, improvement or quality can only come from competition in fare and level playing field. If Mr Musenge was allowed along, what has changed now?

    • The fact is Mr Musenge used political influence to obtain the permit to build even when the local govt law says otherwise. So now that he is no longer in politics, the law takes it’s course. I advise all people who love Zambia to adhere to the law of the land as this is what rule of law is.

  1. So nobody can own a bus station except PF MPs?
It should be the other way round that MPs, Ministers and other highly placed Civil Servants should be discouraged from owning businesses to clamp down on corruption. Zambian MPs are earning hefty salaries equivalent to MPs in the European Parliament. And higher than ordinary MPs in most of the European countries, yet those Europeans countries are richer.
So if the Mansa Municipal Council approved the construction, why then are they cancelling this, after the person has made an investment? Someone should be held accountable for the bad decision or was this structure built because of Musenge bribes when he was MP? Either way, something fishy is going on here.

    • It’s only in Zambia where “dinosaurs are allowed to running the blood bank”. Minister of Health can run a private hospital, Minister of transport can run a flight of trucks plus buses and you expect the railway to develop. My foot!

  2. Journalism pa Zambia. You have only told one side if the story. Did you ask Mansa city council why the bus station was closed? Seriously you love politics so you intice people to comment on political lines. Please inform and not intice.

    • @chils,VICTORIAFALLS is on point, this is one sided story,a balanced story would read”we tried to call mansa council and they promised to call us back,by the time we posted this article we were still waiting for their call, the journalist has to include effort or what the mansa council their side not what mr musenge says the letter from council says.

    • Victoria Falls please read the article the reason for closure is highlighted from the letter received from Mansa manuncipal council.

    • Victoriafalls is right. Journalists work with quotations. The ‘reason’ in the article is issued by Mr. Musenge. We need a quotation from the public relations office of the council.

  3. You are just leaping what you had sown in PF.. Or rather, PF is making you eat your own vomit.. Had it been you as a minister like you were as Copperbelt Minister, you would have behaved the same on a citizen sympathizing with the opposition..

Anyway, all the best my guy in your battles, which every opposition member has gotten used with..

  4. It sounds very funny:Mansa Municipal Council closes a bus station owned by expelled PF Member Mwenya Musenge
People own bus stations in Zed?

    • Ba Fresh Prince of Malambo, people own bus stations…..Euro Africa, Mazhandu family, Juldan, Likili and the list goes on have all built their own ‘bus stations’, some of them in what would be referred to as the main town bus station but others on their own distant plots!

    • @Weslet the story says, Asked why the council asked him to close his bus station, Mr Musenge said he was informed that nobody was supposed to run a private bus station.

  5. The leadership in my country can be very disappointing! Why people hold office when they are ignorant never ceases to amaze me! Come on Mansa Municipal Council, you can do better than that!

  6. THE AUTHOR IS TRULY VERY BIASED. HOW DO YOU REPORT A STORY WITHOUT ESTABLISHING THE FACTS OF THE MATTER. DID YOU CONSULT MANSA COUNCIL FOR AN OFFICIAL REASON?

    • Iwe Chisenga, you can’t read? Mansa council wrote a letter to Musenge in which they said they closed his bus station because nobody is supposed to own a bus station. The question is Why did the council approve the building of the station if nobody is allowed to own a bus station. Which council employees have been sanctioned for illegally allocating land in this matter?

  7. Time for MM to trim both the tummy and the beard. The gloves are off sonny and it looks you are an easier punch bag than Chimbwili. I were you I would keep mum at the political situation and not let the Mast-In on your future plans. Truth be told all politicians’ wealth is largely ill-gotten and it’s so easy to sort out malcontents that break ranks by going after their “so called businesses”. You might find that the so-called mini bus station did not have planning permission or the relevant liscences which the powers that be ignored when he was at the helm.

  8. That is not good, allow zambians to travel decently than take away the comfort in good bus stations owned by private owners .
Let people choose where to be .

  9. Am happy to what is happening to Musenge and Kambwili. These are f.o.ols who antagonised UPND. Time is a best teacher. Even Jonathan will face the same challenges. Maybe him, he is luck due to his illness, he may die before been prosecuted.

  10. Business innovation is under threat in Zambia because any business can be closed down by powers that be unless guidance or a listing of businesses that can not be run by individuals is availed! However any sector has potential for private business investment! Like who does one approach to invest in a “Correctional facility” as it is all about provision of “boarding” amenity!

  11. …hmmm…how does a respectable presidential candidate pose for nude photos??? I saw those photos and they are not fake but 100% genuine. Then how does a whole population support “the serial killer” Kagame by giving him a whopping 99% vote?? In the meantime it is only you diasporans and the westerners who see him as a “ruthless dictator”, the owners of the country (who you let down criminally in 1994 during the genocide) see him as progressive and a protector of their freedoms?? Are you aware that Paul Kagame has abolished the colonial tribal system that existed before the genocide and he does not tolerate any tribal rubbish which he puts down firmly-AND THE PEOPLE OF RWANDA OVERWHELMINGLY APPROVE OF THIS???

  12. This is a common happening in most of our towns. The planning authorities always are asleep only to be awakened when people cry loud. Sunday, I found a Chinese guy building a wall fence very close to the road and all I could do was to shout at him for doing such but he just looked at me and never said any word. Youth Development Center is the place am talking about. If only I had the town planner’s number I could have charted with him.

  13. Dance to your tune Mwenya Musenge as you asked for it.you cant fight a finger which feeds you!!!AYO MALIBU YAKULOMBELA!!!
Go and ask Fred M’membe how Mighty Govnt is-as the once giant The Post Newspaper is no more because of fighting the Govnt of the day!!!ONLY A DULL BUSINESSMAN FIGHTS A GOVNT OF THE DAY!!
plus there is no state of the art bus station in Mansa-those are lies ba Musenge!!stop boasting for nothing and concentrate of forming a new party with your Kambwili which wont go anywhere!!

  14. Thats how cheap our Politics are. When you are in everything is OK but when you are out Nothing you do is right. It therefore means every other business owned by politicians is founded on an illegallity, (wrong plot, wrong tenders, failed delivery but still paid as if delivered, etc etc) which will only come out once they leave politics! No wonder people never dare leave! What a sad narrative Zambia !!!!

Even oposition politicians cash in on this because if you harrass them: ‘its politically motivated to punish us in the oposition’!! So, to get away with murder, join politics – which ever side – just make enough noise to be known … then you can own whatever your heart desires … just dont get expelled!!!

  15. On this I dont support what the PF are doing….Please behave before you make these guys popular by sympathy. Leave their businesses alone.
