Organizers of the Copperbelt Fire trucks protest which was due to the held on Saturday have postponed the event to next week Saturday 28th October, 2017.
Organising team member David Chishimba said the reason is that when they went to collect the permit on Friday, they were informed that the police had lost the application letter and that the commanding officer was not in possession of it.
Mr Chishimba said the organizing team does not know whether the letter was lost deliberately or it was due to negligence.
He said that as patriotic and law abiding citizens, they decided not to do anything irrational but to submit another letter.
“So we have been told to pass through on Monday 23rd October, 2017. However, if this was reckless negligence I would like to urge the Kitwe district police to be serious with their work because we are serious people dealing with serious issues and we are not here to play. If it was done deliberately because of some politics at play somewhere then it’s a shame, because these individuals have an obligation to serve the country and not individuals,” Mr Chishimba said.
“In any case, we are asking the police to treat our issue with the seriousness it deserves. Please work with us because we are merely expressing our democratic and constitution right of freedom of expression.”
He added, “To our comrades who wanted to join us in the protest, I know its painful and that we have invested a lot of resources with regard to time and money. For the people who are travelling from as far as Lusaka, please do not lose stamina. You will be dully updated on Monday. I am urging all our comrades no to do anything unlawful but to remain calm and patient and wait for next week Saturday.”
Mr Chishimba stated that this is a very peaceful protest only intended to voice out displeasure over the purchase of the 42 fire trucks.
“If there are people who are planning other things, please don’t because we will not hesitate to distance ourselves from your actions,” he said.

In Zambia low standards are partly perpetuated by a citizenry that does not complain. However the very few times that people try to complain and protest, they are brutally stopped! This way, standards can never improve in many areas …
The fact is Zambians are docile…I said this yesterday that Chishimba was not organised just like most NGOs in Zambia.

WHY did Govt knowingly pay USD$ 1million to purchase each Fire Truck when in actual fact each of the fire trucks is worth only a third of that? Where did the change go?
Put the figures here – and from a businessman’s point of view – the supplier: cost, freight, duty, insurance, and mark-up (including corporate tax). Show that the supplier profiteered over this tender. Show that his margin is outrageous – then go and protest. In the absence of that, either you should just shut up or protest at every tender because you understand nothing.

Really laughable …but why do you need to collect a Permit from the Police; is Chishimba well versed in the law…these are Charity Katanga childish games losing the so called application the fact that the Police were informed is enough.
Zambia fire brigade must be innovative and size the moment….turn those trucks into a tourist destination…every body wants to see what a $1 million fire truck looks like….even forigne tourists will pay to come and see a $1million truck when a country is ravaged by cholera.. ..
