Veep did not sell land to Chinese nationals- Traditional leaders

Share

Two traditional rulers in Serenje District have defended Vice President George Kunda against accusations that he had sold large tracts of land to some Chinese nationals in the district.

Senior Chief Muchinda and chief Kabamba said yesterday that the allegations that the vice president had sold over 1,000,000 hectres of land to the Chinese were unfounded.

Senior chief Muchinda said at his palace that it was not possible for one chief to sell land as big as over 1 million hectres because that would mean selling the entire chiefdom.
He said the only land he was aware of having given to government was in Nansanga area which government was intending to use for agricultual purposes, adding that the land was only 155,000 hectres.

He further said the Chinese that were in his chiefdom were only working on the roads leading to Nansanga farming block.
Chief Muchinda called urged people to be factual and honest, because making wild accusations would not help build the district and the nation as a whole.

And Chief Kabamba expressed surprise that there are people who are telling lies, adding that such reports should be brushed aside because they create confusion.
He said he did not have any information about any chief in the district having sold land to the Chinese through the Vice President.

“I have heard that some politicians were accusing Mr. Kunda of having sold land to Chinese. But not to my knowledge, I do not think this is true because if a chief in the district sold out such a big land, what can he remain with,” he wondered.

Opposition Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata is quoted in one of the daily newspapers as having accused Vice President George Kunda of selling over 1 million hectres of land in Serenje district.

  1. 1,000,000 hectres is mighty large. That’s more than Germany, Switzerland & Luxembourg’s arable farmlands put together.

  2. Mr. Sata should learn to gather facts before he speaks, otherwise he will continue to embarass himself, and people will continue to lose confidence in him.

  3. #3, Bashi Chilufya Sata is completely shameless about what he he says and does. He is actually a danger to Zambia. The shock is that perfectly decent people like HH find some reason to support him.

  4. I don`t trust Kunda. He is double tongued. Not long ago at a Summit, he mentioned that Zambia would experience food shortages due to bad weather experieced in the last farming season and now the story is that the country has enough even for export !!!!

  5. well ubufi bulaya no kubwela, so in this case we wait and see, if sata was just sataring. 1million hectors is too much

  6. Whatever, but the truth will finaly prevail.
Someone once said the purchasing of mobile hospitals was damn good deal, but now he is changing goal posts and claims the mobile hospitals will donated by well wishers.

  7. #9, ……………………..a damn good deal
    …………………………………..be donated………….

  8. 1m or not our leaders dont realise that selling land to foreigners will leave Zambians without any place to live in future. It may look simple now, but remember what happened to the bush men when our fore fathers trekked from where ever they were before.

  9. 5 NKOLE WAMAPEMBWE UMFWE MILANDU greetings. On your “Bashi Chilufya Sata is completely shameless about what he he says and does. He is actually a danger to Zambia. The shock is that perfectly decent people like HH find some reason to support him.“, honourable self-appointed PF leader Mr.MC Sata (Grade 2/6, unknown) is a human being and president HH or indeed I can not treat him any less than that. Just as a reference lying without apologising Mr Zambian President has said that he will not treat former President Chiluba (Hon. Doc., Malawi) as a leper even if he may be jailed — which is good for humans.

Have a good day and be blessed.

  10. #5 your allegations that “The shock is that perfectly decent people like HH find some reason to support him (Michael Sata).” boarders on mental corrosion and hatred for President HH – innocent in this whole saga! Can’t you ever say something without dragging the reputable name of President HH into disrepute? President HH did not join hands with Sata at his instance but by a clarion call by Zambians themselves to emancipate themselves from the MMD. You must also appreciate that in politics, sometimes what determines the composition is membership from cross section of the nation and that is all about nationalism. The Pact is a clarion call and NOT a choice of a woman or man to marry as it were! So stop insulting reputed President HH, and never blame him for Sata’s wild statements ever.

  11. 5 ba-NKOLE WAMAPEMBWE UMFWE MILANDU, on another note following your “Bashi Chilufya Sata is completely shameless about what he he says and does…. The shock is that perfectly decent people like HH find some reason to support him.“, honourable self-appointed PF leader Mr.MC Sata (Grade 2/6, unknown) is a man who has convinced the part of low- or no- income Zambians in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Luapula and Northern that he has the best solution for their lives in light of the MMD failure to rule Zambia properly save by dividing and mis-rule. And so, president HH + UPND have an obligation to partner with him to liberate Zambians as one force.

    Enjoy.

The shock is that perfectly decent people like HH find some reason to support him.“, the MMD had a chance to go into a PACT r whatever you may call it with the the mighty president HH plus the UPND Team, but they wasted their opportunity clearly as indicated by lying without apologising Mr President that president HH wanted a job from him and the MMD just around last year’s presidential by-election.

In light of this, why are MMD supporters or non-supporters trying to derail president HH’s progress?

    Enjoy.

  14. I thought of sharing the following article originally published in Sydney Morning Herald on this thread:

“THE ACQUISITION of farmland from the world’s poor by rich countries and international corporations is accelerating at an alarming rate, with an area half the size of Europe’s farmland targeted in the past six months, say reports from United Nations officials and agriculture experts.

New reports from the UN and analysts in India, Washington and London estimate that at least 30 million hectares is being acquired to grow food for countries such as China and the Gulf states, who cannot produce enough for their populations. The UN says the trend is accelerating and could severely impair the ability of poor countries…”

  15. it is not SATA’s problem to tell lies.the problem is with the people who pay attention to his rantings.it should amaze you that in morden era of economic and issue based politics, there are people who still find the sata kind of politics of name calling, insullts and fake promises worth following.i urge those who find faith in sata’s promise of more mone in the pocket to turn to south africa and see what’s happening to Zuma. The so called man of the poor.yes he identified himself as a person who will rescue the poor south africans from the yorks of poverty he is president now and am sure every one as read the webthat the man is entangled in.riots are all over south african poor settlements and the owners of the money, the investors are watching his next move.saying appease your poor and…

  16. yes,the investors are watching and saying appease your poor and we leave with our money.it’s tricky for the man as much as he would want to help his people his space to manouvre in is limited.so big lessons for sata’s blind followers and sata himself who aspires to lead a poor country like zambia

  17. contd. from #17
Some of the largest deals include South Korea’s acquisition of 700,000 hectares in Sudan, and Saudi Arabia’s purchase of 500,000 hectares in Tanzania.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo expects to shortly conclude an 8 million-hectare deal with a group of South African businesses.

India has lent money to 80 companies to buy 350,000 hectares in Africa. At least six countries are known to have bought large landholdings in Sudan, one of the least food-secure countries in the world.

Those targeted include not only fertile countries such as Brazil, Russia and Ukraine, but also poor countries such as Cameroon, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Zambia.

  19. #18 Akapondo, you are right. That is why in this UPND-PF pact, only president HH is better qualified t rule Zambia. HH understands modern business management, economics and has demonstrated that he can run the nation through his successful business unmatched by ANYONE in GRZ of MMD not even RB. Sata should remain in the pact party machinery for mobilization while president HH must take up the presidency to avoid the Zuma embarrassment coming to Zambia. I therefore appeal to ALL WELL MEANING AND SERIOUS Zambians to consider and support HH’s presidential candidature for the pact and and vote him President of Zambia in the 2011 presidential and General elections.

    Lets wait and see.

  23. #26 Maestro Hakucincha, I think such comments by some of these cadres “Mayoka anzoka” and will come to an end. Its not helpful for Cadres like Mulala to make such child tontrums and “father buy me a biscuits and sweet” suggestions – On what basis should HH allow former Police Officer MCS to rule and then handover to him? The presidency in Zambia should not be treated such a cheap political undertaking where power can be swapped for friendship, it must be based on the competence and need to deliver to Zambians. No sympathies should be used to give someone the presidency or else whoever will deserve the sympathy of Zambians shall be eligible for presidency. I insist, the let the best qualified, mentally alert and energetic young man like HH rule and change ZED politics for good!

On your comment “HH understands modern business management, economics and has demonstrated that he can run the nation through his successful business unmatched by ANYONE in GRZ of MMD not even RB.”. Just a word of caution to you: never overrate anyone! Not even Obama could be rated the way you are rating HH. If HH could be that good, he could have succeeded in everything he does, which includes winning elections!
But we support the PACT and possibly with HH as leader, but we are not blind to see that he has a long way to go in as far as politics is concerned. I advice you to be open minded and to keep a cool head. Business is different from politics mind you!

  27. 28 Mulombwana Wakamena Nabulwe!, I lked your “<The presidency in Zambia should not be treated such a cheap political undertaking where power can be swapped for friendship, it must be based on the competence and need to deliver to Zambians. 28. 31 WE CAN greetings. I am very disappointed with your “If HH could be that good, he could have succeeded in everything he does, which includes winning elections!“. Elections depend on voters who may be voting for various reasons which may not include competence while businesses work on the principles of competence and experience.

Right now, I am in an election for a Speech Deliverer to the whole space community to be done on 31st August 2009 and I will give up data on here that a Canadian white person who nominated me wrote below, but I may not win the election because voters are mainly North American white.

It is a good start as an exposure to politics and elections although I believe that as an SDA Christian my job is to induct people to Christ’s good news as expressed in Revelation 14:6-11.

  32. #33, Maestro Hakucincha, warm greetings.

I get your point. However, my point was to correct the impression that <b…he can run the nation through his successful business.. as put by #23. In as much as I support HH – because I believe he can provide better leadership than Sata or RB – he should not be praised in that way. Fluttering a leader like that is to send him to sleep. He has some observable political weaknesses and therefore his success in business (which cannot be overlooked) are not a complete guarantee for political leadership.

  33. 31 Mulombwana Wakamena Nabulwe!, your “. So, no worries and just continue supporting competent Zambians to rule. All that is not needed to happen is to have a Grade 2/6 or unknown formal school drop out lead us as President with a questionable character.

As for “He has some observable political weaknesses and therefore his success in business (which cannot be overlooked) are not a complete guarantee for political leadership“, do you think I don’t have weaknesses?

  36. #40, Maestro Hakucincha, mulombwana!
Your Canadian friend must have heard you give a speech and so he believed in you. I have no problem with that. But we have seen HH as a leader not organizing his party (especially in the copperbelt) in a way he is supposed to. That is the basis of my arguement. You have weakenesses and that is my business – to point them to you!

I wish you the best in your elections. Make a stratagy to get more surport before D day.

  37. 42 WE CAN thanks for your input . On “Make a stratagy to get more surport before D day“, the elections are on and all the voters have been with me in school and so there is no need to campaign as can be noted from my Canadian friend’s “And if you do accept the nomination, you certainly have my vote and I believe many others as well” since they all no me but what matters is that they have personal Nationals to consider as was seen in our school days in various votes that we had.

On “But we have seen HH as a leader not organizing his party (especially in the copperbelt) in a way he is supposed to. That is the basis of my arguement.” Lies contributed.

Honourable PF leader is at the height os those lies especially the president HH made personal money from the privatisation of LCM but the brother was only boss of a receivership awarded company Grant-Thornton. Once this misconception is cleared Copperbelt Province will come around especially that the same tricky Sata MC (Grade 2/6, unknown) is now a cadre of president HH upon realising that he can’t win the Zambia Presidency by tribalism supported by the POST.
