Government has advised Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the country to respect the new NGO law.
Chief Government spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha has said in an interview with ZANIS today that it is important for NGOs in the country to respect the law as it was passed by Parliament and assented by the President.
Recently, the NGO bill was passed by Parliament and Republican President Rupiah Banda assented to it making it law.
Lieutenant General Shikapwasha said that it was very unfortunate that NGOs want government to rescind its position on the already assented law by the President.
He said government does not want NGOs in the country to be operating in a hap harzardly manner.
Lieutenant General Shikapwasha who is also Information and Broadcasting Minister said the NGO law would also be of help in enhancing NGOs cooperation with the government.
He said the NGO law will help make NGOs accountable for funds that are put in their care for the poor in society.
ZANIS
We are respecting the law, only under duress
Mr Shikapwasha, Learn from your friend FTJ. He made bad laws just to fix some people and he forgot that he and his minnions were not wamuyaya. U will need to run a NGO in fututre and do not start shooting yourself in the foot. history surely repeats itself and only time will tell
Ronnie do you yourself follow the law? MMD says for to be adopted for MP or President one has to be a member for a minimum of 2 years. Do you follow that?
The world will suffer another financial crisis, former Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan has told the BBC.
“The crisis will happen again but it will be different,” he told BBC Two’s The Love of Money series.
He added that he had predicted the crash would come as a reaction to a long period of prosperity.
But while it may take time and be a difficult process, the global economy would eventually “get through it”, Mr Greenspan added.
“They [financial crises] are all different, but they have one fundamental source,” he said.
“That is the unquenchable capability of human beings when confronted with long periods of prosperity to presume that it will continue.”
Every time I see or hear from this so called reverand Gen. Shikapwasha, I feel like vomiting. He is a stinking lier and blood hypocrite. A shameless father. An oppotunist. A man without shame. He has no back born to stand for anything noble. He has no concious. What respect of the law can he talk about? He breaks the law all the time. His boss and the MMD have no regard for the law. Who is he to force a law to NGOs. Shouldnt law be made by the people it seeks to govern? NGO have rejected this law becouse it is in the interest of RB and shikapwaha. Period. If it was a law for the NGOs they could have respected it. Dosent this man have a wife and mature children or his church to tell him to repent? God help Zambia
Some of these laws have no legitimacy simply because they are rushed through parliament without seeking CONSENSUS among all the stakeholders. The other name for this type of governance is dictatorship. When shall we learn that being in power does not mean you should just dream up any idea and push it through as a law. No wonder as country we are moving backwards. There is a wealth of wisdom in the Zambian society from people which the people in power ignore. This style of governance is a disgrace!
All the bad laws will be scrapped as soon as government changes. However those which were enacted to punish oponents will be used in rverse for the enacting embeciles..so rupiah watchout. Sata was caged on bad law of motorvehicle theft he helped to enact to punish loverboy macriboy Vera
Ba General Shikapwasha is lost. Since he wants as to repect the law, we shall. But he should not forget that one day it will catch up with him. He is not going to be in power for ever and will want to run an NGO.
That bill was long over due. Those NGO’s who are opposing it are hiding something. Some NGO’s were just existing on paper and became personal to holder entities. Even the way they were operating and employing it was like a closed shop. On this one GRZ has done better. We cant have a few chaps critizing GRZ on top of roofs just because they are funded by donors. Donors intention to support NGO’s is well intended but we have witnessed few benefits to the intended target groups. If not controlled by passing certain lawas wht can stop these NGO;s destablising the security of this country. Those NGO’s who are transparent are comfortable but those who against then they have to blame themselves. We know some chaps who have bin running bogus orphanages and have become rich and disappeared.
