Mongu business community advised against overpricing commodities during Kuomboka ceremony

The business community in Western Province has been urged not hike the prices of their commodities but take advantage of the forth coming Kuomboka traditional ceremony to attract investment in the region.

Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry Regional Coordinator, Fred Mulozi advised lodge owners and other business entities not to exaggerate prices of services and commodities during Kuomboka as this is immorally unfair to prospective investors in the province.

Mr. Mulozi said the chamber of commerce is aware that there is usually high demand for accommodation during the period hence some business operators would want to use the law of supply and demand to justify their actions but they should not override the morality and cultural values in the sector.

He has further urged people to take advantage of the Kuomboka Ceremony to showcase what the province can offer to the outside world in terms of tourism and also woo international investment in various areas such as timber, mining, oil exploration, farming and energy.

Mr. Mulozi also thanked the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) and Government for their tireless efforts in making sure that preparations and arrangements for the ceremony are held annually so that it benefits the people of Zambia culturally and economically.

Meanwhile, the Barotse Royal Establishment said this year’s Kuomboka ceremony will be more spectacular as the floods are adequate, adding that those that will be in attendance will be well secured.

Induna Katema Aketata Batunda has also urged members of the public to put on their traditional attires which include Siziba and Misisi stating that people should avoid putting on party regalia as the ceremony brings together many people regardless of their political affiliations.

And a Mongu resident, Subulwa Simakumba said he is anxious to witness this year’s ceremony as the floods are adequate.
