Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale says the Livingstone International Cultural and Arts Festival (LICAF) has increased revenue in the city of Livingstone.

Dr.Hamukale attributed the increase in revenue to the number of both local and international tourists that have visited LICAF festival.

He said LICAF falls in line with provisions of the national tourism policy to develop the sector in a sustainable manner economically, culturally, socially and environmentally.

ZANIS reports that the provincial minister was speaking during the official opening of the 4th edition of the Livingstone International Cultural and Arts Festival in Livingstone.

The Provincial Minister noted that the area where the festival is being held also known as the Kavango Zambezi Trans frontier Conservation Area (KAZA) offers huge opportunities for economic collaboration of member countries that comprise Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Angola and the host Zambia.

Dr.Hamukale however, urged the Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA) with its parent Ministry, in future, to position LICAF as a KAZA region festival to attract not only performing groups but also the citizenry of member States to attend the event.

He also implored corporate institutions such as secondary and primary schools to enhance the country’s rich cultural heritage.

The Provincial Minister further encouraged both local and international tourists to sample not only the Victoria Falls but many other areas and activities of touristic interest in the province.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hamukale has also urged the National Heritage and Conservation Commission to consider training more youth guides at the Victoria Falls.

And speaking earlier, Zambia Tourism Agency (ZTA), Chief Executive Officer Felix Chaila noted that LICAF a Brain child of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which has now become an annual event has seen an increase in both domestic and international tourists.

Mr. Chaila who thanked Zambian Breweries for co-hosting LICAF side by side with the Mosi Day of Thunder stated that such initiatives attract domestic tourism thereby, generating revenue for the country.

This year’s event attracted 5 international cultural and Arts groups from Zimbabwe, Botswana, Burundi, China and Seychelles and indigenous groups representing the 10 provinces of Zambia.

  1. That bus terminus looks nice. But what about landscaping? If you ho to Rwanda they have done a very good job in that area

  2. Rwanda is a dictatorship! We can follow them we will do better because no matter what we try to do some stiff-necked people in Zambia will never follow! We must force them!
