Kunda expected in Itezhi Tezhi for by-election campaign

Vice President George Kunda is tomorrow expected in Itezhi Itezhi to drum up support for the local government by-elections in Lubanda ward in Itezhi Itezhi district of Southern province.

Mr. Kunda is expected to land at Ngoma airstrip, 25 kilometers, away from Itezhi Itezhi district.
This is according to a programme availed to ZANIS by Itezhi Itezhi Acting District Commissioner, Charles Hampende in Itezhi Itezhi today.

Mr. Kunda is then expected to hold a rally after having a meeting with MMD party officials in the districts.

Meanwhile, MMD candidate in the Lubanda local government by-elections Bates Mambomwa said he is ready to work for the people of Lubanda ward once elected as a civic leader.

Mr. Mambomwa has expressed confidence in winning the by-elections, noting that the campaigns were going on well with no antagonism and confrontations.

He said all the candidates competing in the by-elections are competing for one goal which is economic development in the district.
He added that he will diligently deliver to the expectation of the people if elected to the council on October 15th, 2009.

Mr. Mambomwa, who is a retired Zambia Army Officer, added that he will work within the manifesto of the MMD.

The Lubanda ward fell vacant following the imprisonment of opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) councilor. He was alleged to have plotted to dethrone Chief Shimbizi of the Ila people in Itezhi-Tezhi district.

Opposition United National Independence Party (UNIP) has fielded John Kabwe while UPND-Patriotic Front pact has fielded Harrison Kamano.

  1. May be as a nation we should re-think these by-elections. Are they the best and cost effective way to fill vacances?

It’s possible that the VP is spending govt money and not MMD money on these travels. If that is so, we could use that money on clinics, schools and other developmental projects. Zambians, let’s find a better way to replace vacant political parties during the term of the office.

Look at how much we spent to elect RB.

  6. The constitution needs to be ammended to allow the seccond runner from the main elections to automatically take over. This will save Zambia money and productive hours. God bless Zambia.
