The Minister of Defence, Dr. Kalombo Mwansa has said no sons of the republican President Rupiah Banda are involved in any government contracts, including that of arms procurement, as Mr. Enock Kavindele is alleged to have said.

This a reaction to a story carried in the Post Newspaper edition of Monday, 2nd November, 2009, headlined “Rupiah’s Clan Has Taken Over the Economy” – Kavindele.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services in Lusaka yesterday, the Ministry of Defence took strong exception to Mr. Kavindele’s assertion that President Banda’s sons are involved in the procurement of arms.

“We wish to inform the nation that this assertion by Mr. Kavindele has no grain of truth in it. The procurement of arms is the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense.”

The press release emphasized that the assertion by Mr. Kavindele should be dismissed with the contempt it deserves because no son of President Banda or any of his relatives has approached the Ministry of Defense on procurement of arms.

  1. It’s not the Ministry of Defense f**l it’s is the Ministry of Defence, and that is nambala wanu. Nambala two who is this fat chap

  2. It all starts in this manner, then more is revealed. See how quickly they have responded and compare this to how long it took to respond to the fuel crisis which they still deny to date. This is Twelve months in office. Its time we got some discipline in these circles. Solwezi pliz don’t let us down, join the rest in effecting the much needed change.

  3. Zambian politics never ceases to amaze me now the story these days is about the sons of politicians and their dealings.Ok not bad at all to talk about them if there is some form of abuse and advantanges used coz of their father or mothers political standing

  4. Well, in as much as I revile all this nepotism of Banda building a nuclear family tree, I think Kavindele should be the last to talk about it because his son was doing the same and even has a South African passport contrary to the laws of the land. It’s like Sata talking about democracy when he was the mouth piece of Chiluba’s third term. I honestly think we need a Jerry Rawlings to clean our political landscape of all creepy scum of the world once and for all.

  5. you chimps on this ka cheap blog always like buying sensational stories even from villains who have contributed to the mess this funny country of ours has found it’self in.this mentaly crippled heap of flesh called kavindele at one time came out aggressively defending the dealings of his his son.then he was at the helm wielding power.today the thing is on the wire fence watching the filthy he used to do and he can not stomach though with him unlike we ordinary zambians who are upset, him it’s out of envy.so kavindele is the wrong person to tell us because the ass hole is also a culprit.the bustard doesn’t deserve attention him and the person he is pointing the finger at are the same.

  6. Chiluba denied he was a thief untill he started sheding tears in court of laws. So RB, just chill dear as time of rekoning is coming if indeed your sons are envolved.

  7. Whether Kavindele was dreaming or not on RB’s sons picking this or that GRZ contract is not strange. It seems Kavindele has a short memory. When he served as Veep there was this issue of Trans Sahara oil deal and many others and the man came to defend his son’s dealing. Now just coz he is out of the system, all contracts seems to be by pasing him and his son and wants to talk about RB and his clan or empire as he puts. We all know. Who ever is in power. Its WAKO NO WAKO. This has been happening since and before independence. So what is Dr. Kalombo Mwansa defending. Let us discuss other equally important things not counter attacks and defences on this and that. Then who contracted the Coy from Kenya to import fuel for us. We need to know he truth or else the finger will continue pointing

  8. Leave EK alone. He is right. How come HERB’s children have become stars all of a sadden when their father is in SH? They have become such big businessmen and women that a government can deal with them! They can bring a company to value assets of Zamtel! They can import maize (GMO) to feed hungry Zambians, now they are involved in fuel deals. EK is simply saying these sons are being advantaged. Have you considered why that ka ma small company was given a waiver to import fuel into Zambia way before the NMC’s were given the weaver? And it took the MNCs to pressure government for as SI waiving import duty for fuel. Check out facts. RB’s sons will mess us up

  9. What a country full of jelousy i diots. ignorance. disease and people who know how to talk talk talk and do nothing. Good for nothing imbiciiiles. What has Banda’s sons done. People just wake up and dream and start to wish their dreams to be true. Dont just speculate. Tell us what contracts have been given to Banda’s sons. This Zambian way of ma jelasi will not take this poor 4th world country anywhere. Zambia is a very poor country – why? because even foools who should have some education – the best they can do is allow illiterates to manage their affairs – worship s tupid ignorant clowns like Sata. Imagine a normal human being promising a job and hous for everyone in six months and all these educated foools think its possible. Shame and continue pulling each other down in abosolute…

  10. Many years ago, in KK’s reign, a Times Newspaper journalist, Mbuzi, reported a story that a truck load of arms disappeared from Arakan barracks. It was a scoop!. Mr Grey Zulu was defence minister then. He refuted the story and the Times was sued, for false alarm. I cannot remember the outcome of the story, but this is kind of similar. What I wonder about though, is why are rebuttals never published by the same paper that carried the initial story. Any journalist worth his salt should always get the opposite view before publishing a story. The crass Zambian journalism is always one sided. It is a great pity that all papers have become partisan and bigoted. Sad.

  11. There is nothing wrong with RB son’s being awarded contracts as long as they qualify for the contracts then thats fine. But if things are being done under the table and they’re being given contracts that are too big for them to handel then Zambians have the right to be concerned.

  12. EK is something, he was fired by LPM few years ago for his double dealing. Now the post is busy praising EK stories the same guy they wrote all the bad things about. Come on Zambian stop making Clowns into saints.

  13. #21 you’re very right. The only problem here is that RB’s kids are involved in Govt tenders but the President doesn’t want Zambians to know this. where is the transparency. I agree they should participate in any government tender provided they can deliver within the agreed timeframe. I know two of RB’s sons who were based in SA working there who had to leave when he became President.

  14. Yes there is nothing wong with then participatnig in certain tenders. The problem is where procedures are bent as was the case with rP capital. And # 17 Mwenda, have no misconceptions, they are not suddenly big, you can ask anyone who is kowledgable about the Zambian business landscape, They have been doing business like commodity imports for years ( maize and fertilizer). And i know that over ten years ago, they were aleady trying to start dealing in naional fuelimports but I dojnow how far tha t deal progressed. So dont judge them, actuall I feel we need more Indegenous Zambian business men who are willing to test the wAters OF big business.

  15. THIS IS AN IS DANGEROUS. I REALLY THINK THOSE FOLLOWING HIM ARE HYPNOTISED WITH HIS LIES. HE IS NO PROPHET OR MAN OF GOD AS HE CLAIMS. YES HE WILL PRAY WITH YOU EVEN FAST FOR YOU BUT WHEN IT COMES TO SINCERITY, HELL NO!!!
HW WILL ENTICE YOU INTO A PROJECT, MAKE YOU SPEND ON HIM AND THAT PROJECT AND WHEN HE CAN NOT BRING IN HIS PART HE WILL TURN AROUND AND BACK STAB YOU TO THE WORLD ANDSAY BAD THINGS ABOUT YOU.
I HAVE NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF MY LIFE EVER SEEN SUCH HYPOCRISY. BUT YOU KNOW? I AM SO GLAD THAT JESUS IS ALIVE AND SURELY I WILL LIVE TO SEE THE DAY THIS MAN WILL REPENT TO GOD ALMIGHTY FOR THE MANY HEART BREAKS HE HAS CAUSED. TO EVEN THINK HE MARRIED A WOMAN 10 YRS HIS SENIOR WHOM HE STOLE FROM THE CONVENT.? YES SHE WAS A NUN AND THEN HE STILL SLEEPS AROUND BEHIND HER BACK?

  16. RUPIAH IS AT HIS BEST says:
November 5, 2009 at 7:23 pmEVEN THOUGH THE ECONOMY IS FAILING, RUPIAH BANDA HAS TRIED HIS BEST TO FILL IN THE GAP THAT LEVY LEFT. WE JUST LOOKING AT IT FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT I AM MORE THAN SURE ITS NOT EASY FOR OUR PRESIDENT.IGNORANT PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS TALK BAD THINGS ABOUT ABOUT HIGH ACHIEVERS AND THATS THE REASON YOU STILL FIND THEM IN THE SAME PLACE AS 20 YRS AGO.
I THINK RUPIAH IS DOING A GREAT JOB! GUYS JUST STOP ACCSUING HIM OF ****** THINGS. WANNA BE PRESIDENTS WILL TAKE ZAMBIA NOWWHERE. I REALLY HOPE RUPIAH WINS NEXT TERM. HE IS MATURE ENOUGH TO HANDLE ZAMBIA AT ITS WORST.
HICHILEMA, SATA, KAVINDELE? I MEAN WHAT DO THESE WANT? COME ON GUYS?
THEY ARE SMEARING THE PRESIDENT AND HIS FAMILY IN ORDER TO GAIN WHAT? THE PRESIDENCY? THE DIVISION IS HERE…
