Zambia Police arrest Chief Magodi’s son for Killing a Cyclist

Police in Lundazi district in Eastern Province have arrested a 14 year old juvenile who knocked down a 57 year old cyclist to death in Senior Chief Magodi’s area.

Commissioner of Police for Eastern Province, Lackson Sakala says the Juvenile who ran away following an accident was arrested after he willingly surrendered himself before police in presence of his father, his royal highness senior Chief Magodi.

Mr. Sakala says the juvenile who has formally been charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving, has since been released on Police bond pending court proceedings.

The accident victim Lackson Theo 57 of Chanda Village in Senior Chief Magodi’s area of Chasefu district in Eastern province died after being hit by a speeding vehicle which was driven by the named juvenile.

The accident took place on Tuesday around 15:00 hours along Chasefu- Egichiken road near Magolowazi Community School and involved a Mitsubishi Canter registration number ALB 9891 belonging to the traditional ruler.

A juvenile who was driving at the time unlawfully got the keys for the vehicle without the consent of his father who by then was in Katete district attending to official duties.

The accident happened when a Juvenile who was driving from east to west lost control due to lack of experience and hit the cyclist who was heading towards the same direction.

The victim was later rushed to Egichiken Rural Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
