Buffaloes and Eagles saluted for defying big-buyer theory with CAF qualification

Nkwazi coach Chris Kaunda is proud fellow service team’s Green Buffaloes and Green Eagles have shown what can be done on modest budgets following their 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup qualification.

Army side Buffaloes and Zambia National Service club Eagles, who finished third and fourth respectively, achieved their continental qualification with no foreign imports unlike Zesco United and Nkana who will play in the CAF Champions League.

“I am very happy our fellow service teams Eagles and Buffaloes. These other teams that have qualified can buy any player that they want,” Kaunda said.

“Given the same opportunities, we can also do it and compete equally very easily.”

Kaunda said he was especially proud of Eagles who qualified from a non-traditional football hotbed in Choma just eight years after making their FAZ super Division debut.

“Aggrey is my brother and I am happy for him. But that was also our position at one time this season had we not messed up. It was within our grasp but I am happy for Aggrey and Green Eagles it is long overdue,” Kaunda said.

Between May and June, Police outfit Nkwazi under Kaunda had reached the top four in a period they had won six, drawn three and lost one game.

Nkwazi eventually finished the 2018 FAZ Super Division season in 10th place.

  1. I agree that these two did a bigger achievement than Zesco our Manchester city in terms of spending. Eagles and Buffaloes will contribute more to Zedian football than Zesco

  2. Kudos goes to eagles and buffaloes. Eagles needs more reinforcement otherwise they will be booted out in the first round. Try to buy international players as you have started playing international games now.

  3. Zesco united should also be thanked for their consistency in the champions league which has enable our country to have 2 representatives in both competitions.
