World Vision Zambia says it will provide farming inputs to Congolese refugees at Mantapala Refugee Settlement in Nchelenge District who will venture into agricultural activities this farming season.

Mantapala has over 6,000 hectares of land and is estimated to host over 20,000 refugees.

Over 15,000 refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo have fled across the Northern border into Zambia since August last year with 13,000 currently hosted at Mantapala resettlement scheme.

World Vision Zambia Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs Manager, Bernard Zgambo said his organisation in partnership with other stakeholders have taken stock of the refugees in the newly established Mantapala refugee settlement who require inputs this season.

Mr. Zgambo said the refugee population need some kind of empowerment in order for them to get their lives back on track with their families.

He added that the asylum seekers also need to be oriented on the types of livelihoods they can engage in while in Zambia so that they become self-reliant.

Mr. Zgambo has also disclosed that his organisation in collaboration with UNICEF has drilled 51 boreholes in Mantapala refugee settlement four of which are mechanized with solar powered pumps.

He said the organisation has also constructed about 853 latrines and 853 bathing shelters for the refugees.

  1. So what’s bad about that? Be happy.
Just because refugees are in Luapula doesn’t mean they will not vote for PF.
