Government has assured all council workers in the country that their salary arrears will be cleared starting today, Monday, December 24, 2018.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kabwe, Local Government Service Commission Chairperson, Amos Musonda, said the Ministry of Finance started releasing local government equalisation funds for the month of November on December 19, 2018.

Ambassador Musonda also confirmed that the Director of Finance for Kabwe Municipal Council confirmed that the money has since been credited to the account and November salaries for all the workers will be paid by December 25, 2018.

He said the December local government fund is still being processed and will be paid to the council workers in the soonest possible time.

The Local Government Service Commission Chairperson said the overrun catch up for the months of September and October in Kabwe specifically will be in January, 2019.

Ambassador Musonda said the local government equalisation fund for November will resolve the balance of September and help clear October salaries while, the December fund will cater for November, making Kabwe behind by only one month salary arrears.

He mentioned that government will do its part in terms of committing the equalisation fund but urged Kabwe Municipal Council to tap into the locally-generated funds from traders as well as the half-year billing for rates and clear all arrears owed to the workers in January.

  1. I hope its true. I fail to understand this boma. In the first place why fail to pay in time and wait to accrue arrears and get busy for nothing while getting fat envelopes and salaries worth thousands of workers meager salaries and just for 1 Minister – I mean 1 minister’s monthly salary can pay over 50 council workers.
    Disaster!!!!

  2. That’s how ECL operates, he wants to appear like a savior or a caring person by solving problems he created and the naive people think he cares for them. These guys will open the two public institutions and not pay the students on time every time which makes you wonder if these guys are only good at planning for elections and not things that matter to people like salaries.

  3. Leave my ECL alone. The problem of council workers is created by themselves council generats money every day why do they take it. This problem has been there before ECL become president I don’t know it’s like that to council
