President Lungu commends Zambia Army’s contributions in peace-keeping operations in 2018

President Edgar Lungu says Zambia Army’s contribution to SADC, African Union ( AU), and United Nations in peace keeping operations in 2018 is commendable.

President Lungu says the Zambia Army’s contribution in peacekeeping gained the country respect from the international community adding that Zambia as a country will continue to promoting peace of service to benefit humanity.

The Head of State said this in a speech read on his behalf by Defense Minister, Davies Chama during the 2018 Zambia Army annual ball at Arakan Barracks.

President Lungu therefore urged the army to continue working hard in order to promote peace and security within the country and the world at large.

” Our emissaries to the SADC, AU and UN peace-keeping operations performed beyond expectation and this earned Zambia respect from the international community,” President Lungu said.

The President commended the men and women in uniform for their unflinching commitment to duty and loyalty to the government of the day.

He also commended the Army joined forces in curbing the spread of cholera last rainy season by taking the lead in cleaning exercise of streets of Lusaka and other affected towns.

Mr. Lungu also thanked the Zambia Army for its commitment in ending the unlawful trade of smuggling of mukula tree in an effort to safeguard the country’s natural resource.

And President Lungu says his administration will continue to ensure that the welfare of men and women in uniform is well catered.

He said it is for this reason government will continue constructing housing units, hospitals and other amenities within the cantonments.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has urged Zambians to embrace the altitude of working together in order to achieve the Vision 2030.

Mr. Lungu said government will is resonate in its policies of economic diversification and job creation across various sectors aimed at poverty and vulnerability reduction.

And speaking earlier, Zambia Army Commander William Sikazwe said the Army will implement reforms aimed at restoring peace, security and stability necessary for economic development.

Lieutenant General Sikazwe in his maiden annual ball speech said the Army’s thrust is focussed towards actualizing and implementing projects in line with the country’s Vision 2030 of Zambia becoming a prosperous nation.

Lt.-Gen. Sikazwe disclosed that the Army has transformed the Military Training Establishment of Zambia, MITEZ into a Zambia Defense University in line with its modernisation agenda.

He further disclosed that the Army has revamped farms in selected provinces that includes the Makeni in Lusaka, Mikango, Kawambwa in Luapula and Solwezi in North- Western province, respectively.

The Zambia Army has therefore embarked on crop and livestock production, fish farming as well as procured bakery equipment in order to generate funds and contribute and reduce pressure to treasury, he said.

The 2018 annual ball theme was dubbed, “celebrating professionalism and successful contribution towards peace and prosperity in a healthy, clean and green Zambia.”

Minister of Health Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa, PF Msanzala lawmaker Peter Daka, Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany Anthony Mukwita were among the dignitaries that attended the ball.

The occasion is meant to interact with senior Army officers with their families in reflecting the performance of the Army in the period under review.

    It’s scary to comment on last Sata’s appointments.
