Government is improving Western Province-Provincial Minister

Government says it is doing everything possible to better the living standards of people in Western Province.

Provincial Minister Richard Mwapela said government is addressing the situation in the province by taking developmental projects to the area which also includes improving on infrastructure.

Mr. Mwapela told ZANIS in an interview that the developmental activities that are taking place in the province will help create a lot of job opportunities for the people.

He observed that 80 percent of the people working on schools in Lukulu district are locals which shows government’s commitment to job creation in the province.

Mr. Mwapela also noted that the construction of the Mongu-Kalabo road will also create jobs for a lot of people in the surrounding areas.

He is hopeful that the different interventions by government will help fight poverty levels in the area and change the face of Western Province.

Recently ethnographic field work by Dr Michael Barret of the Curator for Africa at the Museum of Ethnography in Sweden and also researcher affiliated to IESR at the University of Zambia indicated that Western Province suffers more from high poverty levels, low economic production and poor infrastructure.

  1. Working hard indeed, first order of business appoint Sikwibele Simumu as Minister, a man who though Sikongo was another district!

  2. What is he talking about? Does this chap know the meaning of Development? Ekupena uku nomba. The chap is probably refering to his own recent appointment as Development!:-w

  3. Development in Western Province shall not amount to a few people working around some roads. Roads have been constrcuted in the province before, and that few people working around the roads and their families are still very poor. I am expecting the Hon. Minister to demonstrate a real approach to development of the province based on the competitive edge that is already there. It surprises me why we are not doing anything about the livestock in the province, for instance. Rice growing, and so on. Sustainable employment opporutinites result in sustainable jobs not promises of hopes etc

  4. Words and words from the MMD never make sense. We need a national indaba on economic development fa munzi fa.

  5. why now …after bishop duffy said the people of western province want change, so MMD decides to make a move and try to scoop western province, sorry too late those guys are tried of fake promises, and surly want change . MMD did not play there cards rite on this one

  6. Lets face facts, even the 1.3 trillion Bwezani is sourcing for the Mongu-Kalabo road is a waste of resources.Just of what economic benefit is that road going to bring apart from Political apeassement. The Traditional leadership has made investing in that part of the world so frustrating.Let that area be what it is poor:)>-:)>-:)>-

  7. # 8 my neighbour in blogging” I want to tell you that western province is not poor as you have put it. That place has a lot of reasorces including diamond gold and all expesive minerals. the minerals are in all the 8 countries around Zambia, so you can`t expect Zambia which in the middle not to have such treasures. I can just give you a simple example, not about minerals if the goverment developed kapiri glass factoriy in westen province where there is so much perfect sand, then jobs would be created.Westen province has a cashew nuts plantation which has just been neglected, that could have created a lot of jobbs and permanent ones. look the way Mununshi banana scheme has benn left and we have decided to importing bananas from abroad.
My freind development ni te accident, ni stratagy

  8. :d Hey oldboy, som1 cant survive on road project only. u shud also think about the developments of schools in western p.
