Zambia’s youth leader and entrepreneur Mwala Mooto, has encouraged young people in Africa to pursue entrepreneurial and vocational opportunities beyond seeking employment.
Speaking at the African Union Youth Summit, Mr. Mooto encouraged young people to exploit the opportunities that are available within Africa than seeking the elusive green pasture elsewhere in the World.
He gave himself as an example stating that he abandoned a lucrative career in Accounting and Audit, to pursue farming as a business.
Mr. Mooto said he has since raised $50,000 for his agribusiness project from funding institutions available in Africa.
He urged young people to spend their energies in pursuing the available opportunities.
Mr. Mooto said it was sad that young people were leaving the continent while the rest of the world was rushing to Africa to exploit its potential.
Mr Mooto is among youths from across Africa that is attending the National and Cross-Regional Youth Dialogue Forum being held at the African Union Commission Head Quarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The Forum is organised by the AU Peace and Security Department to discuss the role of youth in peace mediations accross Africa .
Mwala contributed in a speech on youth involvement on socio-economic development as a peace mediation mechanism in Africa.

Excellent. The future for Youths is in their hands. Mindset change is long overdue and Parents, Elders should join the voices of govt, and organizations to help in changing the climate around Youth.

How are Zambian youths gonna be business minded people when we import everything and depend on so many foreign companies ?
It sounds very optimistic and great in sounds but with effective balance of how helping youths in Africa.
I think it should be looked at as an objective, because depending on work and jobs is causing the following;
(1) STI’S especially to female youths because they are used to offer their bodies to men in offices for sex is the sacrifice to find a job.
(2) MISCHIEVOUS especially to male youths because people in offices have a habit of collecting money from youths who are looking for jobs and they bribe youths saying the money you have paid is the PROCESSING FEE.
(3)Corruption and vandalism as well as criminal and theft accompanied by xenophobia.

This is good news once again.We just read an article by Mr Nkonde describing how some female young graduates switched from their prestigious careers and happily settled for farming.Can the Ministry of Youth organise similar local summits for prospective as well as active entrepreneurs and invite entrepreneurs like Mr Mwala Mooto to share some ideas on how he managed to break the traditional barriers of financing and raise $50 000 for his agribusiness from funding institutions available in Africa.Knowledge is power.
