UTH cancels patient visiting hours

The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has with immediate effect cancelled all patient visitations at the institution to prevent possible transmission of Coronavirus(COVID-19).

UTH Clinical Care and Diagnostic Services Director, Alex Mukupa says hospitals are places of highly infectious environments, hence the move is in an effort to combat disease transmission to both patents, visitors and reduce overcrowding in wake of the pandemic.

Dr Mukupa said only one person will be allowed to be on the bed side and will be issued with a card by the hospital security wing.

He said the measures which have been put in place are with immediate effect until further notice.

This was is contained in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka, today by Dr Makupe.

The Ministry of Health has put in place measures in view of the Coronavirus which has become a global pandemic.

Some of the measures include provision hand washing facilities in public places, no handshakes and restriction of public gatherings among others.

  1. This is a good move. Very difficult but has to be done. We have lots of critical patients and last we want is people catching it unnecessarily. Please let us be very hygienic and considerate of others who may have weaker immune systems.kz

  2. Still no sign of the President in a crisis. He must be in quarantine.

    Ba Zambia, mulimbe.

  3. This is an ill – thought out move…you dont even have a specialist ward with oxygen and beds available for people who are venerable from covid-19…you are still meeting in Parliament but you are cancelling visiting hours, are you going to provide food for the patients or even clean the patients as its visitors who do this for their patients. Get advise from a virologist not that Dr. of all trades Chilufya. …those two Zambians who have been diagnosed with the disease came from France where they were on holiday had Chilufya stopped flights easiler such things would have been prevented but still buses are coming in it fruitless.
And the President is no where to be seen still only concerned about Bill 10 so he can cling on to power.

  4. The virus has already spread, while you were busy with cheap politics, Get ready, the worst is yet to come, At least 10 million in Africa are expected to die from coronavirus because of the useless visionless leaders!!!
