ZUFIAW warns of anarchy

Share

The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) has warned that if the country goes to the next polls under the current prevailing political environment, there will be anarchy in the nation.

ZUFIAW president Cephus Mukuka observed that there is too much bitterness on the country’s political scene which if it continues there would be serious consequences in next year’s 2011 elections.

Mr Mukuka noted that the level of political violence which the country has witnessed in the recently is a source of concern especially as the country prepares for the 2011 general elections.

He said political leaders in both the ruling and opposition political parties are bitter with each other and that this is beginning to trickle down to their supporters, thereby heightening the political tension in the country ahead of the 2011elections.

Mr Mukuka has challenged stakeholders such as the civil society and the Church to help reconcile political party leaders in the country.

He said there is need for the church to work towards reconciling political leaders and to bring about spiritual healing in the country ahead of next year’s polls.

Mr Mukuka emphasized that it is the responsibility of stakeholders to calm the situation and try by all means to maintain a peaceful political atmosphere in the country for Zambia’s young democracy to grow.

  1. What we need is to base our politics on issues. Then people will start thinking before they open their mouths as they would need to be reasonable, and make reasonable debate. At the moment the electorate has allowed this anarchy by not demanding issue-based debates.

  2. There is only ONE man in Zambia who is a bitter politician. He and he alone is bent on becoming President so much that he is willing to burn the country if he doesn’t have it. His little brother has also contracted the same disease. If politicians simply stuck to selling their ideas on what they would do differently from the present govt, without calling each other names, there would be peace. The truant media is also stocking the fires.

  3. The President who is a leader of the Nation is not helping the situation,he cant listern to anyone.

  4. # YOU ARE RIGHT 100%………………………………………………………..WALASA SAINT!:)>-

  5. Just how do you remove personalities from issues pliz No. 2 Saint help.Whether we like it or not, politics is about personalities that discuss the issue syou are crying for

  6. Wanzelu walasa.I for one believes its not about how good you are at selling ideas. FTJ should have been the best president in the whole wide world but his thievery offsets that. Good ideas(free market) but a thief. Why should there be anarchy? Yes, how many times have elections been rigged? If you followed the Tories & lib Dems victory story, Brown could be called names, & they did to each other while they debated on issues. Name calling will always be there even Obama was called a racy term. But there he is President. Lets allow them call each other names so that we see how they react and know their personalities. If we bring church mood, we will end up electing another stealthy person like FTJ.
Watchout….#1 to 5. U chicken out on most debateble issues.

  7. The Post is largely responsible for inciting lawlessness in the country by their daily hate editorials

  8. This is what happens when the government of the day has lost credibility. The centre is not holding. We’re not hearing the commander. The last thing I remember, the commander was calling one of the citizens a son-of-a-dog. That for a national leader, I’m sorry, I can’t accept.

  9. Come on, whats wrong in reporting corruption. Or that Dr Musonda has shoot some boy. Are you crazy @PF Cadre # 8. Its only the post that allows a common man’s ideas and sentiments to be heard accross the country. Thats freedom of expression. Times report on good MMD deeds & for your own sake watch ZNBC, the rest of the news is about MMD condemning opposition or fake development projects taking place where only ’em know. Some of us dose off the first five minutes of main news only to wake up after the family has changed to MULTICHOICE. Its wack my dear boy.Even Wille B has space of ZNBC when he is using free space that could be used for Ads to help ZNBC raise money to run the firm. Oh. I have a dream that one day,one day there will be change. If RB brings it he is welcome.

  10. this group of people or union of noted something real and worth spending serious time investigating and finding solutions to. its only true that the MMD feel the heat this time around and a ready to put the country in a state of confusion so that they remain in power as long as time can allow!!
politics in zed have changed hence as the world around us, we need well educated people to lead our nation forward not into the dark ages again!! currently KAUNDA seems to have been the only true leader we’ve ever had coz nothing has changed since him !! I’m Calling for total CHANGE

  11. #10 bruce lee, I have one problem with The Post, and that they seemingly change view points to suit their own interests. I will not even endeavour to discuss the govt media because their failings are obvious. But unless you are not a blinkered opposition supporter, it is difficult to see through The Post. To begin with, its claims of impartiality are a fallacy because at the moment and since 2008, they have been the PR unit for PF. Not that they shouldn’t, they have the right. But to bsh the govt papers and ignore the fact that this paper is equally annoying to those sitting on the other side of the divide is baffling. For your information, I have been an avid reader of The Post since my college days and I am speaking from an informed decision. For the independent paper they claim to be..

  13. @PF Cadre #12. The point we must drive home both of us is whether as you stated, the post is really responsible for inciting lawlessness. I beg to differ deeply to my unseen nerve.Levy did not start well but was being watched by the post, he reformed. He actually became better by the day. Sata-when he rallied behind FTJ, the post pounced on him & that led to his prisonment. His support for FTJ cost him even though he is himself a hardworker. I have worked in the ministry of health during his regin as minister. We saw sanity,he has been tainted by FTJ. Any person who associates with FTJ must watch himself. Katele could have been an innocent minister but was mislead by FTJ. What interest can a paper have? Changing views comes about coz people attached reform like KK. He echoed that to day.u c

  14. …they refuse to publish any letters that are contrary or criticise their view points. Have you ever seen any letter in The Post not agreeing with them? Never! In today’s edition, Fred M’membe is quoted as saying KK never stole a duck, never stole one sheet of paper was searched for having stolen books, never killed a chicken and yet he was victimised!! Now that’s just brilliant. Who almost crucified Kaunda because he had allegedly stolen, murdered his political opponents and yes, gotten away with books from State House? And today? No he did not still a ngwee!!!

Who said in 2006 that Sata was a tribalist and a thug and that Zambians should never have him as president? And today?

Who said Mwanawasa was a cabbage and zambians had made a mistake electing him?

    What a shame

  15. #14 You are saying Levy became better simply because The Post toned down on their attacks on him? I can assure you that was at a great price because indirectly, they had control over him. Why do you think Zambian Airways was not remitting departure fees? Why do you think the Ntchitos became the lead prosecutors? It was not about Levy reforming, reforming about what anyway?

  16. The church in Zambia has lost direction too many people playing christ you just read statements in the Zambian papers then you will get my meaning.

  17. well said especially if VJ and MMD will continue with their dirty rigging of elections. And also if the police service will continue being an MMD cadre, serious violence will hit Zambia very hard.

  18. @London #17. I for one thinks the church has a doing in the political degredation has seen Zambia ging to the ‘ogs. A couple of years ago, i keenly followed the debate on the establishement of the NCC. Todate, it has not taken off. The church in its entirety-the pentecostals in their respects especially the prominent Bishop Banda & Rev Masupa(sorry to mention his name) took a toll on their congregants who are the majority pa Zed and rallied behind this. Years down the line, after they ve benefited from the proceeds that go with attending the unending NCC, they ve gone into hiding while lots of Zedians are tired of it. The participants can afford discussing stories around that place including ministers and we still dont see anything. I for one, the church has gone another…

  19. nigerian Bishops & apostles as if they themselves cant, to preach prosperity in giving, while i hear some pastor saying he will be the first zambian to own a personal jet. May God judge us. The same pastors started it with FTJ & his free gifts from stolen Zamtrop money. When am in Zambia, you will think Zambia is a haven of christianity because left, right & center, there r Ads about conferences & crusades for healing and blessing. Where r they when Fr Bwalya-a catholic for that matter can get into prison,i thot Pentecostals r more genuine than catholic. Anyway, may be religion does not matter. In one of the weekend LT pictures, i saw Bishop Banda having a joke with hon Shikapwasha, & i was dwafed. If Fred can be incacerated & vocal & prominent Bishops r stitting sipping coffee. While!!!!!!
