LT Update-Comments, adverts and your feedback

Share

This is to inform you that we are having problems with our spam filters, which seem to have just gone mad. They are  treating valid and legitimate comments as spam and put them in a queue for deletion. Our technical guys are working on the problem to resolve the situation. Please bear with us. If your comment does not  appear on the site immediately when you post , please check later. Know that your comment is queued somewhere. It will be published as soon as the webmaster gets to it.

There has also been complaints of a big advert appearing in the middle of the page while one is reading a story. These complaints seem to be affecting people in the US mostly. Our technical guys have failed to reproduce this error and if you experience it please e-mail a screen shot to webmaster (at) lusakatimes.com so we can see what exactly is happening and try to fix the problem. You can capture a screen shot by just pressing the “Print Screen/SysRq” key on your keyboard and then do a paste in a word document. Please note that different regions see different adverts that load on the site.

Lastly, use this thread to also provide us any feedback and any changes you want to see implemented. We are now working on the next upgrade for the site.

Thanks for your support to Lusakatimes.com

  1. I am in Japan and also experiencing the same. I will email you the a screen shot of what pops up.
And also, it seems we are unable to post the emoticons, I don’t know if it’s just my PC. The other thing I have noticed as well is that I can’t access the “archives” page each time I want to browse through past threads.

  2. My only two suggestions.

    1. Hire some journalists if your budget allows for it.
    2. Start a circulating hard copy paper that will compete with the Zambia daily-mail, Times of Zambia, The Post Newspaper and the Monitor Newspaper (if it is still around).

  3. when i was in Aussi i had same problem the big advert appearing in the middle of the page while reading and now am in zambia still happening.

  4. A spam filter on a blog does not delete anything,it just puts whatever the administrator configured/categorized as spam in a nominated folder either for manual deletion or auto delete, once deleted it can not put it in a quee to delete or publish later
You just need to clear your cache, you have probably run out of memory,or your server is receiving too many hits and its overwhelmed
As for that annoying advert, its called a WIDGET or GADGET like the one that appears on WIN Vista or WIN 7 desktops with news/weather feeds, you need to go into your system settings and place where it wont disurb people or disable it completely

  5. The other thing,on a serious note, please improve on your grammar in your captions on weekly pictures,if you can improve then just use one of the many local languages.Be a bit professional

  6. On your Settings / Discussion tab, check the box that says “Comment Moderation – Don’t discard spam on old posts.
Un-tick it,go to your control panel, depending on the operating system of your server, either increase cache memory, clear your “temp folder”
    upgrade your RAM too
Install AKISMET,its a free-ware, use it to moderate comments and get rid of insults from your blog

  7. The news coverage on this site is mainly pro – MMD government because of the major sources – Times of Zambia and Zambia Daily Mail.
To improve, explore more sources of credible news or simply create your own news. I agree with bloggers who suggest you employ trained journalists. The language you use in your captions for weekend pictures, and other information you generate, is usually of low caliber & full of errors. Your editorial team need to do more.

  8. It has been good not seeing any spam for a few days.

Senior Citizen and Mwata have not been able to flood the pages with it.

  9. Yeah that chi advert thing is irritating. This explains why my comments could not appear yesterday, it made think LT had put me in the bad boys list.Ok LT hope you will soon have your house in order.Good luck.

  10. My concern is LT’s editing. LT clearly needs an editor who knows his/her work, e.g., the correct titles or former titles of persons, etc. Just recently, Grey Zulu was captioned as “former prime minister” – a position he never held!

  11. Why cant LT go pro? Looks like you have interns as editors or writers for most of your articles. From your pro-MMD point of view, you can tell that writers are being instructed to suggest otherwise.
I enjoy this site, though even if you condem the post(who are more unbiased, you are cleary bent of MMD.
Work hard though because only those with balls of steel like M’emebe can sprout out of freedom of expression and take a bull by its horns-i admire that, they change the world.VIVA CHE GUEVARA

  12. I BLOG FROM SWAZILAND. I HAVE ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING THAT POP UP BUT IT IS NOT THERE RIGHT NOW. HAVE YOU now GOT TO SORT IT OUT completely?

OTHER PROBLEM IS THAT YOU DONT DISPLAY THE FLAG OF THE COUNTRY THA I AM PROUD TO HAVE HOSTED ME FOR 5 YEARS NOW. PLEASE SHOW THE SWAZI FLAG OR THE ZED ONE IF YOU CANT.
