President Hichilema is a double-tongued, he does not understand the rule of law-Given Lubinda

Share

Patriotic Front (PF) Acting President Given Lubinda has said that President Hakainde Hichilema is a double-tongued man whose words and actions do not collaborate and is putting himself in an awkward position by doing things differently from what he preaches.

Mr Lubinda said that Mr Hichilema’s preaching of respecting the rule of law has remained public rhetoric as evidenced by the detention of people for more than 48 hours without being taken to court.

“President Hichilema does not seem to understand the rule of law because there is no application of the rule of law in what is happening today and I would advise him to seek legal advice on the rule of law,” Mr Lubinda said.

Mr Lubinda said the first 100 days of the United Party for National Development(UPND) in government have shown that its members do not respect what President Hichilema says.

Speaking on Millennium TV’s The Platform programme, Mr Lubinda said in the first 100 days, there was euphoria and a lot of support for presidents which has not been the case for President Hichilema, adding that Mr Hichilema preaches about the rule of law in front of cameras but says “naba gong’a just arrest them,” behind cameras.

Mr Lubinda also explained that the rule of law is not measured by the number of convictions but by how one handles the justice system.

“Mr Davies Chama, the national chairman for the Patriotic Front was detained in Lusaka for two nights, driven at 02 hours where he was detained another two nights and sneaked into Sesheke like a criminal, detained for more than a week before he was taken to court, is that the rule of law?” Mr Lubinda wondered.

He said while giving solidarity to PF central committee member, Raphael Nakacinda, PF members including Mr Lubinda himself were chased from the police station by police officers.

“When we were attacked by UPND cadres, I was one of those that ran to take refuge in a police station paid for by taxpayer’s money to provide security to citizens but the police officers shut the door and pushed us out to where these people were throwing stones,” he lamented.

Mr Lubinda added that if this was the rule of law that President Hichilema keeps talking about, then he should seek advice from lawyers so that they explain to him what the rule of law is.

  1. Ok “rule of law” is whatever PF says it is .Lubinda forgets that PF itself violated the tenets of rule of law to the point of condemnation by several int’l bodies.

  2. GL has the nerve to talk about rule of law??? After ten years of criminal behaviour by the corrupt PF government of the lying incompetent Edgar China Lungu??? Thankfully the Zambian voters know better……

  3. If PF made mistakes, is at right for UPND to continue making the same mistakes??? The president should stick to his words, we are expecting the president to rule this country differently so that he can bring sanity to our country. Please let’s not compare PF with UPND, we voted for change and nothing but change.

  4. You are such a character who thinks rubbish. Surely you expect HH to responsible to release those detained from Police cells within 48 hrs? So that is what Lungu was doing while in sate house? I can just imagine the foolishness, and stupidity of the rest of pf members like Lusambo, Emmanuel Mwamba ( oops the ambassador kekekeke!) , Kampyongo and the rest.

  7. Lubinda, Lubinda. Can you explain the following: (a) Lungu did not hand over power to the speaker (b) under Lungu, HH was unjustifiably charged with treason and the list goes on of many wrongs under your Lungu. Which law has PF or Lungu ever understood or followed? Even your bill 10 was very questionable. HH is and will be a far better president than Lungu. This a fact.

  10. I AM MADE TO BELIEVE THAT 95% OF THE PRIVATELY OWNED SUVS AND POSH CARS DRIVEN IN ZAMBIA BELONG TO THE PF AND IT ASSOCIATES. IS IT A CONCIDENCE OR BY DESIGN? THEN YOUR REIGN WAS WORSE THAN APARTHEID REGIME IN SOUTH AFRICA.
    SHAME ON YOU!
YOU NEED SERIOUS PRAYERS, NOT THOSE MOCK PRAYERS YOU WERE PROMOTING.

  11. Yes sit we have always known that under 5 to be a liar. Look how he sold parastatals during privatisation for peanuts, and yet today he stands before us to claim that he cares for Zambians. He is a crook who will rule for one term. A big liar

  12. Ba Lubinda learn to take the back seat, do you recall how you wasted $2m on trying to pull out of the ICC? That was the money you should have spent paying the retirees who camped at your office. It is those retirees who showed you the door bwana. For now keep to your in fighting with Kambwili’s camp.

  13. Given Lubinda of all people of the rejected PF and mainly rejected due to economic and governance issues should lecture HH on integrity, how surely

  14. Some tuma stubborn people mwandi, somebody wires you clean in an election and you still have some feeble and pretentious energy to call him under 5, nangu kufwa na no please. The sooner you accept the better. Given Lubinda who most PF supporters are not supporting is still talking, PF want sober minded people to lead them like madam Sylvia Chalikosa

  15. The shallowness of some Zambian bloggers is that if they support a particular political party they will continue to oppose any progressive criticisms.
If PF made mistakes or stole money then HH must continue the same path? We as a community we need to disengage from these politicians and stop behaving like cadres. We voted out PF because we want another party to do something better than the other political party. If we continue to blindly support HH he is going to mortgage our country and it will be too late to reverse the damage. UpND complained and opposed very good proposals by PF but today they are doing the same thing. They are so secretive that my main worry. HH is not transparent at all. He just talks, talk shows are his portion. He will only leave us with his promises nothing…

  16. Bo Lubinda, your strong words against HH, your anger and rantings about Rule Of Law all boils down to two cases – that of Chama & your case at the Police Station.
Of all the cases that have been professionally handled and you are bi.tching about just two cases and talking armageddon of Rule of Law? That is too far stretched and exposes you as an “EMPTY TIN” leader, who is clueless. Honestly, are you trying to insinuate that Rule Of Law was better off in PF & Lungu era? What is your point? You brainwashed the Police for 10 years, and you expect them to CHANGE within 3months? Ba PF you are being ridiculous and childish, CLEARLY, YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO OFFER.

  17. @Chendabusiku,
Good comments, but the issue is that there is no credible justification or discussion that is being brought forward by opposition. All that we are witnessing, is a bunch of politicians who are just ba.rking and NOT logically arguing.
Until we see logic and sensible arguments, ONLY THEN, we will support opposition arguments. For now ni ma tuvi chabe, hence our inclination to HH.

  18. This coming from a guy who was part of the worst government administration in the history of Zambia. PF administration, a crime syndicate, violated the rule of law at will. They threatened to unleash armed police on unarmed youth, who just wanted to peacefully protest in Lusaka. PF thugs instructed the police to “break the youth’s bones.” This guy GL was quiet then. But now he’s pretending to be an expert on what the rule of law is?
    Hypocrite.

  19. LUBINDA FORGETS THAT HE WAS THE JUSTICE MINISTER WHO SHOULD HAVE SORTED OUT WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. HH WAS ARRESTED , DETAINED AND TAKEN TO UNKNOWN DESTINATIONS FROM MUKOBEKO MAXIMUM PRISON AT WITHOUT HIS KNOWLEDGE AT ONETIME TO LUANSHYA AND SEVERAL TIMES TO LUSAKA BY CHOPPERS AND VARIOUS VEHICLES. WHERE WERE YOU GIVEN LUBINDA THAT YOU COULD NOT ADDRESS SUCH NASTY OPERATIONS.

  20. THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has forfeited properties of late second Republican President Dr. Frederick Chiluba to the State.
The properties are valued at over K40 million.
