President Rupiah Banda has asked Zambians to reflect on the importance of family and community values.
In his Easter message, the President says every Zambian should take stock and reflect on the importance of family, community and eventually the need for maintaining peace and stability in the country.
“ Easter makes an opportunity for us to take stock and reflect on the importance of family, community and the need for peace and stability in our country, ” said the President.
He also appealed to all citizens to help the country in maintaining a peaceful and supportive society as the country goes to the polls the year.
The President has meanwhile assured the country of free, fair and open elections this year.
“Zambian people will this year choose leaders who they wish to lead them to the tomorrow Zambia. I wish to reassure them that these elections will be free, fair and open.
” In return I appeal to them to help us maintain a peaceful and supportive society, ” he said.
He has further reinforced his pledged to provide a better future for all Zambians. The President has also promised to continue working hard to ensure that every Zambians enjoys the fruits of a strong and prosperous nation.
Last week the President directed that debts on over 3,300 parastatal homes on the Copperbelt be written off.
He has during his time in office been working tirelessly to achieve a better place for Zambia in the world.
His policies have brought better health care provision, increased education and employment opportunities, and underpinned by steady economic growth which has yielded investment across the country.
This is contained in a press statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations,Dickson Jere.
ZANIS
Well outlined Mr. Jere, now please provide us with the statistics to substantiate these claims.
Communities are damaged by you sending your policemen to shoot their children.

Its time to reflect on family……………not politicking
Well said True Zambian, however, the message conveyed carries a number of messages: social (family-oriented), political and economic. I personally chose to assess the economic aspects of the message and probe further about numbers. I am not disputing Mr Jere’s claims, I am simply asking for some numbers to back up his claims.
strong and prosperous zambia meanwhile you are not collecting the tax from the mines, but busy commiting tax payer to useless projects that you are announcing every day for campain. This chipata major!! Kalale fye chigili!!

What values will you teach your coloured children?
Good Wisdom Mr President.
Family Values are the Bedrock of National Development.
National Development starts in our homes, because that is where we start learning about: Respect, Leadership, Giving, Love, Perseverance, Honour, Caring for Others, Aspirations…
We have are a lot irresponsible fathers that are going around sleeping with many women and when they go home, they afflict their wives with killer diseases. Women too are not excused.
This is leading to so many orphaned kids. So often, these kids end up in the streets of urban areas, abandoned, helpless with no hope at all. In the midst of all this, many of these kids are subjected to sexual abuse, cheap labour, street violence just to survive and give in to have something to eat on any given day.
A number of many good Zambians and us have tried our little best to donate millions of money to support these kids when they end up in shelters. Surely, more needs done from the GRZ, the Private Sector and Philanthropists.
Some may argue faintly that this is because not so many jobs are not being created to support these kids. However, statistics from Shelter Homes tells us, what we see on the streets on Zambia when HOMELESS & ABUSED kids cry for help – has mostly originated from parents that have died because someone in the marriage went too far, by thinking that a one night stand cannot do much damage.
Out of these One Night Stands, Zambia has buried & dearly lost many good: Scientists, Engineers, Doctors, Academics’, Lawyers, Pioneers, Politicians, Dreamers etc… This drawback is hindering Zambia from developing as a nation because most of the “Manpower”, “Tools” and “Gizmo” we need have ended up in the graveyards too early.
Yet in the past one awful ex minister Jonas Shakafuswa had gone as far as boasting on how he used to Slaughter woman at Ndeke Motel. Well he kept his job because the Late Mwanawasa was his uncle.. In other countries, his political career could have been slaughtered on the very day he altered those words.
This is a Social Circle that will keep coming back to haunt Zambia in many ways and years to come.
Why? Because, most of these kids are growing up without parental or extended family guidance, without an education, which means that they will fall in the same trap and get stuck up in Society.
It breaks our hearts to realise that some of these irresponsible parents have been educated individuals from good working class backgrounds, which have just been so reckless and careless and now have left families suffering.
Death is Death. But you cannot head to a particular jungle when everyone is warning you that there is Man Eating Lion where you are going. Some these things can be avoided by just behaving ourselves and abide to Family Values.
Here are some family values:
1) A living wage for all workers
2) 95% employment rates
3) Universal healthcare
4) Universal access to education
5) A friendly environment for local entrepreneurs, not transnational corporations
Of course, the MMD has had 20 years to do that, but they chose to go with the IMF/WB and destroy jobs, give away the country’s resources, throw people off their land to make way for foreign corporations.
So let’s talk about family values.
Mushota shut up and be proud of your own colour and not your fiances’.
The message started well but added campaign propaganda of houses and health care. Cant you just give ester message without empty campaign rhetorics. Anyway, expecting sense from you is expecting too much.
How do people reflect on family values when old people like RB are busy marrying daughters like Thandiwe? Practice what you preach not just soliciting for votes from the innocent zambian suffering people.
Easter, for your information Your Excellence Mr. RBB has nothing to do with what you have just said.
Since your mind is filled with politics, we can assure you that we will retain peace in Zambia, while we dispense with your Presidency.
Happy Easter to one and all!
Its time to reflect on family? That’s rich coming from an old man still trying to chase young women on top of his young wife.
Family & Community Values indeed.
Is there anyone out there that wants to hear RB, HH & SATA to speak against family values? I dont think so. There is nothing wrong that coming from a leader. We seem to have so many hearts that are filled with horror. Like it or hate it, this is good message to send out to the nation from a leader
hahahhahhah mushota you crack me up bra
#14, best contribution of the day.. most sensible…
what of the high poverty levels in Zambia..
Ba LT, no stories any more?
Ba Mushota mukamuponweshapofye fiance wenu iyeeeee… Amitolele kwisa?
Easter is an old pagan tradition of celebrating the movement of the sun towards the Northern Hemisphere, bringing spring and warmth and crops could grow after the harsh winters, so they had a reason to celebrate, whereas for us in the south it only means it will get more cold, so what is there to celebrate? Kakolweni fye ubwalwa, noti ifyakulabeepa abaneenu. Family values my backside. If we are to believe the false story, it has to do with some chap dying for my sins and rising on the third day. What does that have to do with family? As a parent, child, sibling, cousin, uncle, nephew and all other roles I play, I can tell you that every day is family day.
Mr. President, I’d rather reflect on how I should mobilise others to send you packing. You are a good for nothing old man who deserves to go back to his farm and sip Kachasu. By the way, what happened to your frequent travels abroad? I thought you said they are for bringing investment. Have you stopped doing that or are you afraid we’ll ask for our money when you leave office? Shame on you old man. Zambia doesn’t need you. We can take care of ourselves!
In a Christian nation, during Easter, surely you can contribute to such a story without insulting, politics or no politics. Any President would surely have given such a wonderful message, may be except for the Catholic fundamentalist seeing there is nothing family in homosexuality.
Bo Ndate Sicaba, argue rationally!
Thats a responsible piece of advise Mr Presido. However, that does not erase your uselessness……
:d
Well, not really from the horse’s mouth.
What family values?
Sleeping around with your grand-daughter’s friends and ending up marrying one of them? Still unsatisfied, you continue hammering anything on two legs and in a skirt, especially that round one you used to hammer when she was tv presenter, you make her minister and accompany you on all trips even if they have nothing to do with her ministry?
This guy sure has family values!!!
What I said is that we expect our leaders to advise us on good morals and good family values, don’t we? Surely if anyone was in Banda’s position we would expect him/her to advise Zambians just like Mr Banda has done. But what I have seen here are just insults to the 74 year old President. Surely even if you support someone who says when he takes over the reigns of power he will recognise the rights of everyone including homosexuals, it is not reason enough to insult RB for anything he says or does. You call this irrational? Well….

Good points. We need to start from our families. If parents do not coach their children to b’come good men and women, then we are doomed. Family values is not about having excessive materials. We have a lot of rich families that have no values at all. An example is GBM the MP for Kasama. He has money but behaves like an 1diot, usually beating up the wife in front of his children and grandchildren. It appears as if some people are failing to differentiate what family values are.
It’s Surprising how you people lack respect for the Elders. The Message by President Banda- Republic of Zambia is a good one which doesnt need the level of idiocy being exhbited by some of you bloggers. Am sure ukomwafuma takwaba abakalamba pantu ngabalimikalikako pa nsaka mwasambililako imikalile na bantu(UBUNTU). You Education wasters, School failed to Change you.
