Educate your children on political issues-First Lady

Share

Mrs Thandiwe Banda

First Lady Thandiwe Banda has advised women to take greater responsibility of educating their children on the country’s political issues to prevent them from falling into traps of violent politicians who were only bent on causing war and destablising peaceful in Zambia.

Speaking when disbursed K40 million towards the empowerment of Women clubs in Katuba constituency in
Chibombo district yesterday, Mrs Banda urged the people of Katuba to critically analyse presidential candidates and vote for the one who exhibited virtues of love, respect, humility.

ZANIS reports that She said the leader should be selfless and who would be able to take Zambia forward in development.

On the donation, the First Lady said out of the 60 registered clubs in the constituency she was empowering 40 of them with K1, 000,000 for each club.

Mrs Banda assured that the remaining 20 registered clubs which did not benefit from the funds would equally be empowered. She said the purpose of her visit to Katuba was to convey a message of Love and peace to them.

At the same occassion, Chibombo District Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Chairlady Catherine Mululu commended Mrs Banda for exhibiting care to Katuba women through financial support donated to the 40 clubs.

She disclosed that the district had four women associations and 260 clubs among which 60 were registered.
And in a separate interview with ZANIS, District MMD Chairman Harodi Chandalala refuted MUVI TV clips shown on Thursday last week which featured people purported to be MMD officials defecting to the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND).

Mr Chandalala assured that no one from the ruling party in Katoba constituency had resigned to join UPND and that those who were lined up as MMD defectors were expelled from the party in 2009 following the expulsion of area Member of Parliament Jonas Shakafuswa.

“I assure President Rupiah Banda to expect 100% vote in Katoba constituency and that there is no record of defectors to UPND”, Mr Chandalala said.

The first Lady was accompanied to the area by second Lady Ireen Kunda and some Ministers’ wives.

  1. Why is this currency so devalued, too many zeros. This country is backwards. Ever heard of a pound/ Kwacha i cant even pronouce that easily. I wonder what the exchange rate will be in 15 years from now. The country needs some serious overhaul. Thanks

    • That is true ba mayo ba Mushota. We have Economists who have not been utilised. They could have advised, the caracteristics of money and how to ceate wealth. and how to maintain the value.

    • mushota, about kwacha value, am with you, about pronounciation of kwacha, i find it much easier to pronounce than your name swthrt.

  2. ‘First lady’, you are just exposing your pretence and arrogance, violent politicians like William Banda and many more are in the MMD and you wine and dine with them at state house. Please spare us the irritation.

  3. Thandiwe, have you told your husband to preach love and to have respect for others? If not, then you have no moral right to preach to others about virtues of love, respect and humility. Rupiah is notorious for insulting other ploitical leaders and he encourages his cadres to be violent. Start that message from your home before going out there to advise other women.

  4. Madam Banda nowadays a daylight bribe is called empowerment.
Distant Drums is correct when he says you know that primitive Malawian William Banda is in your camp. You eat with him, you dine together. Maybe even sleep together. Someone said if Mpombo doesn’t stop embarrassing your husband with the truth about the military dealings “they will take the law into their own hands”. This was proudly announced on ZNBC tv news for which I pay levy by the way.
Your friend Bin Laden was killed a few hours ago. Mubarak is long gone, Bagbo is in shame. The time to start setting the record straight is now.
Day of reckoning comes without warning.

    • Classic! This comment made my day. I laughed until tears came running down my face. Spot on, no one could have said it any better …

  5. Charity begins at home. You are very young Tandi. Lets not steal money from government coffers and dish it out to unsuspecting and gullible villagers.
Those people are very dull and poor. Give them a million and you are corrupting their simple life
    Just leave them alone

  6. #1,

you are completely out of context, and your post is irrelevant re: article in view.
As for Thandi, violent, hateful and vengeful politics are in her own house, and she eats with them.

  7. @ No. 6 – I disagree. Mushota is in perfect context. The First Lady talks about needing to educate our children on politics and Mushota proves this point exactly.

  8. how many times are we gonna advise you madam on dressing, you just waste tax payers money on those useless outfits, muletusebanya mayo:((

  9. Yes Madam President that is the way to go and know that i will vote RB for president as he stands out to be the best among the presidential hopefuls

  10. I am sorry, violence is in your house madam. Your husband is full of hunger for power. He has gone to an extent of personalising the state media. Here in South Africa, i watch state owned televisions SABC 1, 2 and 3, they are not airing the rulling party propaganda and hatred messeges for opposition leaders

  11. Why this girl keeps putting herself in the firing range amazes me .
It’s almost as tho she enjoys being controversial

  12. Iwe ka Thandiwe Banda what do know or understand about politics? Start by teaching your husband about love and peace.

  13. Iwe ka mushota, what is wrong with u kanshi? Ubututu fye ebo wakoselapo showing the public. No sence of patritism at all. Ala u r not the only one in diaspora. There r people more respectful to mother Zambia and yet more successful. For all I’ve read from u, U r not even successful at all. U r exposing the so called white man u r engaged/married to. What calibre is he to be chaffed with u? Linfontini sana nao wine. I wish u could familiarise urselves with school, maybe u’ll wake up. U behave like a tart of the worst kind everytime u write something. Uletusebanya. Infact if I met u kuno ku UK, tenti nkuposhe. I’d deny u mwe!!

  14. Not even worth commenting on LT these days. It has been hijacked by the state media. The Times, Daily Mail and ZANIS all know that nobody goes to their websites – I have not been there for the last two years! Therefore, they have now chosen to flood LT with their poor quality and completely unbelievable propaganda. These articles have no place in a democracy. They should be published on a Chinese or North Korean website.

  15. Where is this adult abuser getting money from to dish out, how much does she get paid for being our First ByaaaCh? Good advice, though, to the women, and timely warning to your husband on violence. That money you are using to campaign against Jonas, prepare to account for it when the real ACC is put in place after your father/husband RB loses this year’s erections. Hope he doesn’t go into Cardiac Arrest if attempts to take Viagra in order to win erections, and you’ll lose, or bakalamyafwa?

  16. Just tell yo madala to handover to the young..The youths have persistantly been politically obstructed due to overstaying by madalas..It is an emotional vent out cos of no jobs

  17. K1000,000 is equivalent to R800.00 if am not mistaken: i do not wish to disrespect but honestly this is way too little a gesture to come from the (first) lady. The money i usually send home to my relatives beats this by far, why didn’t she ask Dora to help her with a donation after all her partner in crime is spending R45000,000 to purchase a house in Sandton. These people are really taking Zambians for granted God forbid.

  18. This is all nonsense by Thandiwe. Our children are supposed to be taught biology or science especially the science of their body and not politics. Who eats politics? Religion is equally important because children need a holistic education.

  19. No comment lt has lost direction; has engaged itself in stone age censorship. Let pipo say what they want, no editing of anything. Lt was a beauty to read last year no cheap government cut nd paste stories, comments not censored.

  20. @ No 1. Mushota, about kwacha value, am with you, about pronounciation of kwacha, i find it much easier to pronounce than your name swthrt.

  21. The first lady is right but most Zambians do not Know what political issues is all about. Our political issues are patty name calling like RECYCLED leadrs. He is from Tanzania or Malawi etc.In developed countries political issues differ from one country to another,Health.Joblessness ,War etc.Let any one google :Political issues and let us remove ignoarance from un our fellow Zambians then we shall have our mind set changed
