National Housing Authority (NHA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tagos Group of Companies, a US
based company for the construction of 1000 housing units.
The signed MoU will result in the construction of a thousand housing units in Copperbelt and Lusaka provinces at an undisclosed amount of money.
ZANIS reports that NHA Chief Executive Officer Elias Mpondela expressed happiness at the development and thanked the American based company for investing in Zambia.
Mr Mpondela said Zambia has a housing deficit of about two million houses and that the construction of a 1000 housing units will go a long way in cushioning that deficit.
He told journalists shortly after signing the MoU at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka today on the sidelines of AGOA that Government through NHA is committed to providing descent shelter for its citizenry.
Mr Mpondela said government will therefore engage all stakeholders both local and foreign for the provision of affordable and descent shelter for its people.
He stated that the construction of the housing units is expected to commence by August this year. And Tagos Group Chairman Milton Scot said funds are already available for the project that seeks to provide housing mostly for the marginallised in society.
Mr Scot said US companies will continue to invest in Zambia as long as there is transparency and good governance.

China assuming second position on export and huge inverstment in Africa has send shock waves to America. look at the huge inverstment in just a month. Now we should be seeing smart invertment on the part of zambian. making sure that these investment benefit the ordinary and the money is retained in zambia. We don’t want to see the Shoprite nonesense where al proeeds are shipped to south africa. Also we should see on part of govt reviewing labor laws. No more casual workers.
This all theft by mpondela..Since he came to NHA he has signed more that 10 MoU.where with different compaies.Where ever he has worked he has not developed the sector. He is a big disaster to the country.He has one this companies he signed the MoU with to build 6 flats at his PHI home ans this almost starting using NHA money.We know that he is mad over ba mukabene,careful banakulu

Do you need an American company to travel all the thousands of miles to come and build a thousands houses in Zambia. Get real. The entire Elias Mphondela with grey hair in his head thinks that is an achievement. How can we have such low standards of acheivement in this country. Unbelievable. And Elias is supposed to be somebody’s father!

We have the information on the ground.The man lost his job in december and only came back through the first lady.He has been given the last and no new contract for him.It was Ken who should have taken over and that is why Elias was fighing Ken to death.
Elias is looking sick and his former wife now Mrs Tonga bull MP doing very well.

Is this a loan agreement?? Why an American company when there are so many Zambian construction companies? Why not keep the money within Zambia?
