MMD accepts Masebo’s acquittal

Share

Sylvia Masebo
The MMD has accepted the resignation of Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo.

National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe has since declared that the party will embark on an issue based campaign to win back the Chongwe Parliamentary seat.

He says the MMD will highlight the new developmental projects such as the Chongwe District hospital, water treatment plant and street lighting projects as some of the targets government has achieved.

Major Kachingwe says even if Ms Masebo had not resigned, the party would have expelled her because she was leaking information.

He said at a media briefing that Ms Masebo’s resignation has served the party from high level of leakages.

Ms Masebo has announced her resignation from the ruling party effective June 30, 2011.

Meanwhile, Major Kachingwe has thanked President Rupiah Banda and all Zambians for mourning and putting to rest the MMD founding father Dr Chiluba with dignity.

He urged the Church and MMD officials to preach reconciliation and love during election campaigns.

Major Kachingwe has appealed to Zambians to reject politicians that will insult and instigate violence among the youth during political rallies.

  1. LT – Acquittal? Masebo quit the lame party. She was not acquitted of anything. Learn English or just write in Nyanja.

illiteracy is on may levels bane.

  2. From the Post Newspaper, Masebo looks like she is trying to solicit symphathy from people.
Masebo supported Magande because he was Mwnawasa’s prefered candidate, she says. Not because she believed in him herself. But however that was her democratic right.

Now, when it came to the position she contested, she says RB preferred another candidate rather than her because he hates her for supporting Magande. That looks to me like logic failure.
How come it is her right to prefer Magande to RB, but it is NOT RB’s right to prefer someone else to her??
How come it is not Hatrade for RB when Masebo Prefers Magande to RB but it is Hatrade for RB to prefer someone else to Masebo?? If preferring someone else is hatrade then Masebo was the first one to hate RB when she prefered Magande!!!

    • Answer to your  logic question is in your posting: Masebo supported Magande because he was Mwnawasa’s prefered candidate, she says. Not because she believed in him herself. Therefore Masebo supported Magande not because she hated Banda. However Banda  bases his preference for another candidate on hatred of Masebo

  3. Maybe the idea waz to try and sound more braggadocio than just accepting Masebo’z “rezignation”.

  4. what was wrong about writing MMD ACCEPTS MASEBO’S RESIGNATION? Instead you write acquittal, someone appears to be day dreaming.

  5. Seems she and others have done the right thing. The mmd ship is sinking and the captain knows it…

  6. The resignation letter written by Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo to MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe. Masebo was suspended by the MMD two weeks ago.“I write to inform you that I have decided to resign from the MMD with effect from 30th June 2011.Since the death of president Mwanawasa in 2008, there have been evil schemes and fabrications, which have been printed in the government-controlled Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail including ZNBC and the Internet.

  7. All these schemes have been done with the full knowledge and direction of President Rupiah Banda. And all this is because I did not initially support his presidential bid as MMD presidential candidate during the MMD NEC meeting at which a decision was to be made.I instead supported Mr. Ng’andu Magande who was at the time Minister of Finance and National Planning. That was my democratic right which was influenced by the knowledge that Honorable Magande was at the time of president Mwanawasa’s death his preferred candidate.

  8. #3 continued..

You dont need to tap into any more reserved logic than the natural flow of instinct to see that Masebo’s case is lame and highly handcaped. The same reasons she gives (democratic right) for supporting Magande is the same she cause hatrade when RB supports someon else. Is it only democracy when it is in our favour and not when it is in someone else’s favour??

Are we saying that Masebo’s philosophy is “dont do to others what you would want them to do to you?” I agree that her letter was highly emotion. on the other hand, concerning logic it was highly illogical. Why did she have such courage to display publicly that she does not value application of logic?

The answer is simple, for many Zambians it is simple to be convinced, hence the survival of the Post.

  9. Masebo – must realize that she was very instrumental in the Thandiwe Banda hate campaign that was in the Post during the time when RB was competing with Magande.

Masebo was also very instrumental in the demotion of Namugala to deputy minister by Levy Mwanawasa. No surprise that she has mentioned Namugala in her resignation letter which was carefully written by the boys at the Post. Namely, Amos Malupenga her married boyfriend and George Chella.

Politics have highs and lows. She was the Special One for Mwanawasa and was untouchable. Today, Namugala is the Special One for RB. This appears to be bothering Namugala.

  10. Lusaka Times your headline “MMD accepts Masebo’s acquittal” What does that mean? “Acquittal” from what? Is “Resignation” synonymous with “Acquittal”? Or you are using it because she “quit” the party? What strange use of the English language. Very creative, i must say.

  11. Masebo should accept that he was bitting the fingure that was feeding her. First of all she denounced RBs candidature at LPMs funeral , Later proposed Magande .

We are not going to accept this high level of indispline where you take resgnation letter to the post. If you think the post is going to sell you to the people of Chongwe then you have got it wrong.

Do you Guys remember how she used to denounce MCS when she was Local Government Minister saying there is nothing MCS did in local Govt. Today we remain curious to see which political party you will join. If by mistake you join Magande, that will be the end of your era.
Wish you good luck in the street

  12. Lusaka Times your headline “MMD accepts Masebo’s acquittal” What does that mean? “Acquittal” from what? Is “Resignation” synonymous with “Acquittal”? Or you are using it because she “quit” the party? What strange use of the English language. Very creative, i must say.

  13. Above all, its very true that Masebo has been filtering “Inside Information” from MMD to the Post to harm RB. That is a clear fact. She knows this very well and at one time she was caught and MMD did not want to embarrass her. Thus, slowly pushed her out.

This is how politics play. Mandela, Blair, Clinton, Putin, Sarkozy including Obama all these guys have sidelined enemies who have been part of the inner circles.

  14. All I did therefore was to try and honour what I believed to have been Mwanawasa’s wish as told to me by the late president Mwanawasa.I must state here that once the party adopted Mr. Rupiah Banda as presidential candidate in 2008 I did not stop to support him.I campaigned for his election as president in Chongwe constituency with the full support of Her Royal Highness and almost all the traditional leaders, MMD party members and many of the people of Chongwe to see to it that he wins. You may wish to know that the party or Mr. Banda did not give me any financial or material support during his public rally in Chongwe

  15.  I personally organized and financed that rally to his satisfaction. I spent K40 million on transport and K10 million on other logistics just to ensure that he wins that election in Chongwe. After the election victory, there was the usual cheap talk that Masebo did not support Mr. Banda from the likes of Catherine Namugala and Mike Mulongoti. What disappointed me was what followed afterwards. There was a sustained abuse of the state machinery to try and show that Mr. Magande and myself may have abused our offices as ministers hence the Zambian Airways saga and the importation of the 150 hearses. The stories were meant to prove that the late president Mwanawasa was fighting corruption selectively.

  16. These stories from purportedly anonymous authors were posted on the internet just to be picked up by the state media in a very unprofessional manner. I have in the last three years kept quiet to all this with the hope that one day justice would prevail. The defamatory stories against innocent citizens, political leaders, Church leaders particularly from the Catholic Church, civil society leaders, among others, by President Banda through Chanda Chimba’s TV programme and Stand Up for Zambia newspaper will one day haunt President Banda and Chanda Chimba. It is very sad that we elected a President who is today using taxpayers’ money to destroy individual citizens and institutions all in the name of winning elections.

  17. The state media is today being used by President Banda to destroy citizens who have no space to defend themselves.Since 2008, President Banda has shown corrosive hatred towards me simply because I supported Mr. Magande. In May 2011 at the MMD national convention in Kabwe, I decided to contest the position of women affairs chairperson.I was shocked and disappointed that a President of a perceived democratic party could call me requesting that I should not contest any party position but wait to get a party nomination by the party president without any valid reason.

  18. Obviously, it was clear to me that it was in bad faith since he had never spoken to me since 2008 and was only trying to block me from participating because of the hatred he had for me.I decided to defy his wish because I knew it was in bad faith. And thanks to all the genuine MMD members who voted in a fair and honest manner even after the President had pushed in so much state funds just to ensure that I lose the elections. You are aware of the events that followed the convention. Anybody who is known to have supported me at the convention has today become President Banda’s enemy.

  19. Having just come back from Zambia a month ago, I know MMD has been very jittery with Masebo. What is happening in MMD happens all the time in the Corporate World. Company Executives always appoint or promote people that they can work with. Its as simple as all that.. Namugala was demoted by Levy – but she just went back to work hard and he realized her contribution by promoting from deputy minister back to Minister. This reverse decision by Levy angered Masebo.

I guess what goes around comes around… Masebo is looking for cheap sympathy. If Magende is good, she must join his party and see how far she will go with the “ Unsalable & Un-Marketable Character” of Magende.

  20. It is not a secret that his preferred candidate Anne Chungu was decisively rejected by the delegates. So how can the President appoint her back? Again, it was an appointment in bad faith to show me that he has all the powers. Clearly, that decision was done more out of hatred for me than anything else. You will recall that soon after the convention I had a meeting with you as national secretary of our party on my immediate plans to meet with the provincial women’s committees and do a mobilization programme which was to be proceeded with a women’s rally at which we could invite the President to come and address the women. You agreed with me that it was a good idea and promised to talk to the President and get back to me.

  21. she is one of the polical prostitutes-changing parties and quitting too often. tYPICAL OF A WOMAN. THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY WANT

  22. above…is part of MASEBOs resignation letter from our lovely focused MMD party. she sounds so bitter. what can we do madam? nothing but to let u go,u have had enough in our party and leave room for others. mind u if u join PF u ll find mulongoti, better u go in shakafushas way-UPND. all the best as u search for another job.

  23. 17# 18# 20# 23# ANTI-CORRUPTION

Why are u being a F*ckin Id*ot by copying and pasting this article. Every one that is posting comments has read it on Watch Dog & The Post. Find something else to do.

  24. Masebo is not a decent lady…and is seemingly less of a smart politician!!!
She is a liar point blank! how about all the information she was leaking from NEC meetings to her bed buddy malupenga???
see how she fails to acknowledge all this, and here we have double standards, this same masebo is bitter and angry with RB for his reaction to her, so did she expect him to be happy with her behaviour during adoption in 2008???
she was putting people together, tumfyaling magande, inciting others and came strongly against RB, even when he won she was against him and when fred membe approached RB for support with dubious deals she knew about it and joined her boyfriend amos in scandalising the president through leaking information!!!

  25. If indeed she is allowed to be bitter, why doesnt she understand the distruct from RB and why he is bitter with her yet atleast he has tried to work with her!
Campaigns are not cheap and they’re not free…what is 40 million in a campaign???
If you have ever been for campaigns or for rallies where the President is present you will know that 40 million is little and more money was spent on that rally, but ofcourse the area MP should do her part, should our President begin to gravel at Masebos feet to thank her for contributing????
it just goes to show again that she was not happy to out some money for the rally….and back to RB being equally human and therefore should also be allowed not to be happy with her insincerity!!!!

  26. Masebo, your basis of supporting Magande was totally wrong, you don’t support one simply because he is preferred by someone. You should have supported Magande based on his abilities to deliver. Go and join Magande’s doomed party if you still believe in him. Your political strategies have failed please just get married for now.

  27. Masebo has stated clearly that she supported Magande as her democratic right, why then is it evil for RB to not support her??
Masebo was caught leaking sensitive NEC information and plans, how does she justify that?
Masebo is sleeping with a married man, that is very immoral!!
Masebo stood at convention and was elected, is her defection just to join her boyfriend or is it because she knows she has been compromised as a mole?
She has betrayed MMD voters and can’t be trusted!

  28. Who told Masebo that she is the only party member entitled to democratic right, and having the so called prefered candidate. Democracy is not only for Masebo. Everyone else including Banda have prefered candidates, and it is their democratic right and not hatrade for Masebo. When she has a prefered candidate, it is democratic right; when others have prefered candidates, she calls it hatrade, how come? Did the late FTJ Chiluba bring demnocratic right only for Masebo. If having a prefered candidate means hating then Masebo hated RB for no reason whatsoever. What lame understanding of political democracy from mama Masebo!!!

  29. really I see why women are at times called WICKED
I have seen from some bloggers and understand that this Masebo was actually literally in bed with Malupenga, maybe even M’membe.
We all know that in 2008 fred went to government house to ask for support from RB concerning shady deals that Magande had signed off on concerning the Post and the Nchitos. And when this backfired, they turned to Masebo for inside information and always tried to turn it around, using it to scandalise RB and MMD until ofcourse OP uncovered that actually Masebo was laying on her back for Malupenga!!!!!
Now see the information from RB’s point of view, how do you feel? Do you trust this person??
She is working with people you refused to support on shady deals,

  30. she is leaking information and they use it against you and even pass it to one cobra….really is this the woman that should call you evil??

Masebo cannot be trusted. Going to her track record, she has only asked for it and a lot of digging is being done and the favour of scandalising will be returned. Actually she should not blame Kachingwe for doing his job, she should blame Amos for not protecting her and making it too obvious that his information is from her.
If you remember even in 2001 when Mwanawasa came into power these kinds of resignations and defections where there, and some of those that defected are either back or they’ve regretted, unfortunately for Masebo this is a grave he has dug because as much as Chongwe may be in the dark on her lies….

  31. anyone in power would not want to work with someone that is ungrateful, someone that expects the world to beg her and indeed someone that leaks sensitive information for manipulation and scandalisation.
MASEBO HAS SHOT HERSELF IN THE FOOT AND EVERYONE IS SEEING HER FOR WHO SHE IS…A LIAR AND SELFISH WOMAN WHO KNOWS NOT DEMOCRACY BUT IS JUST POWER HUNGRY….SHE IS A KNOWN POLITICAL PROSTITUTE LOOKING FOR APPOINTMENT, BECAUSE RB HAS NOT APPOINTED HER SHE IS BITTER
YET SHE CALLS RB EVIL FOR NOT SUPPORTING HER, WAS SHE NOT THE FIRST ONE TO BE EVIL?????
TO TOP IT ALL OFF SHE HAS BACKSTABED THE MMD BY INFILTRATING NE AND DISTRIBUTING SENSITIVE DATA

  32. i saw her resignation letter
Clearly it was typed up by Amos Malupenga, you can tell from the length and all it covers.
The worst thing one can be in leadership is an insincere! whether or not you have fallen out of favour or you hate each other, leaking information, standing for NEC only to compromise the MMD and betray its people…those are not the traits of a good leader!
sleeping with married men and obliging their every request…what will happen when she begins to date another crazy man, what decisions will she make then?

  33. So if Masebo is a nonentity in this years election, then why so much talk sorrounding her lately? Just accept that more pipo are becoming increasingly discontent with mmd and evidence points to that fact, eg, Masipa, Mpompo, patrick, masebo, etc. Who is next? I dont know but time will surely reveal in the next few months. My simple political analysis is that, notwithstanding individual disatisfaction, there are other deep rooted factors that the mmd has cast a blind eye on and this will surely take its toll in the next few months. Watch the space.

  34. I would not be surprised if Malupenga typed the letter for Masebo, those guys at the post lost both logic and psychology long time ago.

They have been writing their paper like it is done from City Market without even the supervision of senior kaponyas. Kaponyas, given chance would do a better job than the post guys.

  35. # 34 Div nafuti,

Remember that even a theif can attract a lot of attention, not because of the value they bring but because of the disgrantledness they germinate in society.
so fame is not the measure of value.

  36. Good riddance, why 30th june though, is that when the gratuities mature? it should have been with immediate effect?

  37. I really doubt Masebo was leaking anything. With the pervasive nature of information sources nowadays as a catalyst to the Zambian mentality of gossip and rumour mongering, noone needs to leak anything. As soon as those heads loosen in some pub somewhere, a quick twitter, a facebook post and the whole world knows. These are lessons we should learn. I am sure even after her resignation (or impending expulsion were it to come) the ‘leaks’ will continue.

  38. LT, this is by far the most embarrassing headline I have seen from you. ACQUITTAL???? Are you serious? If you think that acquittal is synonymous with ‘quitting’ then I am sorry to say that your writer needs to go back to school. Grammar mwebantu please!!!

  39. @Fine, correct one word in your posts. It should read HATRED and not HATRADE. I like your posts actually. Cheers.

  40. 24 Subaro,,,u r such a myopic Individual who thinks from the dick,i suppose the erection is troublin u and i guess u r malaise in your thinking capacity. dont u know that no one owns the internet? n that evry1 has the right to do evrythg n thats exactly wht have been doing,so i can post as many comments as i wish n u cant put a barrier. If u r PF kindly stop smoking…

  41. Masebo is my God given wife and so am a proud Zambian man for that. Her stupidity(Masebo) is Rupia Banda’s intelligence. Nothing more to say thanks.

  42. She is accusing RB of dictating who should be in NEC, but she doesn’t see Mwanawasa’s preferrence as to who should succeed him to have been dicatorial. What she is not telling us is that perhaps Mwanawasa also promised to influence Magande to make her mmmm… what Vice President and later on first female President???? SOAP operas!!

  43. I was writing better english in 5th grade than who ever wrote this article. LT please edit the articles before publishing.

  44. So she was leaking information. I guess she has done the job for MMD. MMD did not need to lift a finger since she has voluntarily done the job MMD was about to do. She is diligent isn’t she??

Now go practice democracy in PF (however an oxymoron that is).

  45. #23 Anti-corruption. Thank you for the briefing. I am currently in a rural area and news is not easily accessible including newspapers like the Post. Internet access is also a challenge during the day. Just ignore #24 Subaro, he assumes that everybody has the luxury of being in town. I am not taking sides but Iam sure that other bloggers can see who is the ****in idi.ot between Subaro and Anti-corruption.

  46. At #47, okay ba LT, sorry for my bad language, I know that you do not allow me to use such language. I meant to say that other bloggers can see who is the more intelligent of the two clever bloggers guys Anti-corruption and Subaro.

  47. This is really interesting pa Zed.The more we focus on Masebo the more we lose focus on developmental issues.Let masebo go or join pf,but we should never lose focus.Lets pray for SATA to recover quickly so that the campains can start again.Viva zambia,Viva PF and viva peoplpe of zambia keep on smiling.

  48. She may be pointed at as a mole but lets wait and see if information flows from inside sources will stop. I doubt if at all she was a mole and if she was the only one providing inside info of MMD and it’s govt. operations. MMD is stinking and sinking fast. No top founder member is in MMD now at the top of party and govet. All have been hounded out by greedy politicians from other parties crossing over to MMD.

  49. I am not surprised at the stories, my madam was well endowed with legwork even though she was denied the power of logic and foresight. Quite opposite to the endowments of the majority of our women really……

  50. #50, You forgot to mention that Mr Sata hounded out all genuine MMD founder members in his quest to be sole presidential candidate, but then he underestimated the judgement and wisdom of one FJT, whom he has hated to this day both alive and dead. On the other hand, the strength of MMD, like any modern corporate entity, lies in its ability to continuously renew itself by embracing new members. That also explains why parties like PF cannot last long, with one wamuyaya leader singing the same tired chorus of “90 days more (fake) money in your pockets” for ten years oblivious to the fact that new opportunities, development and bumper harvests are already stuffing wads of real money in people’s pockets.

  51. Masebo we know everything abouy you,we shall meet you head on.Malupenga is married and now the whole world will know your true colours

  52. #s 3 & 9 – The lack of intellectual substance in your logic stinks! One can clearly see you are a “Kumawalese”, no matter how much dirt you throw at Masebo and no matter how much positive toilet spin you nail on Bwezani Kanitundila’s excremental political acrobatics against Masebo, you will still remain a glaring “galu ya chiwawa”. Ndiwe chizende ngako baba!

  53. On Sata’s state of health, there can not be smoke without fire, the King Cobra is sweating blood right through his scales. I once said by the time we go to the polls, Sata will be lucky to still be among the living, the serpent is heading towards a reunion with his former wayward boss, 6 feet under ground!

  54. Masebo zwa join the sinking Titanic steered by chi sata chikkalla. You are losing this year which is chi sata’s 4th and final attempt at chancing plot one.Tamwaka imone ba fikala

  55. By the way what was that about ….’I wont die lying on my bacK’ in the last sentence in the POST article? Was Masebo refering to her prefered posture when servicing, sorry serving our leaders?

  56. Leave the girl alone!! The battle is in Chongwe! You may dish on her social & personal life, however if indeed she has the hearts & minds of chongwe behind her, the rantings of MMD will just be considered to be sour grapes.

  57. Sylvia, go in peace dear we meet you in Chongwe. It does not pay to tell us whether or not Mwanawasa preffered Magande because it was up to the Zambian people to decide who they liked and RB got the day. By the way, even Mpombo claimed Mwanawasa left the instruments of power with him as preffered successor. For now we assure you a strong opponent in Chongwe.

  58. #42, I totally agree with you. It is doubtful that Masebo leaked anything. Chances are that because she was sidelined she was not even invited to some of the meetings. MMD has become UNIP hence the vindictiveness. All the same Masebo has done the right thing by leaving this now regional party.

  59. MMD will certainly lose Chongwe. As someone has already pointed out most people condemning Masebo are doing it out of sour grapes. And most, if not all, of them are from a particular region of Zambia. People are tired of MMD’s corruption and arrogance. Many will be defecting to the opposition as soon as the election date is announced.

  60. Pippo do you research and check on Sata utterances on Masebo… I wish you good luck young lady with the PF. BUT PLEASE NEVER TAKE THE PIPPO of chongwe for gee..
