Government says it managed to raise sufficient funds for the funeral expenses of late second president Dr. Fredrick Chiluba who died on the 18th of June 2011 and was put to rest on the 27th of June 2011.
Chief Government spokesperson Lieutenant General Ronnie Shikapwasha has told QFM that the people of Zambia made contributions towards the state funeral through the accounts that were opened at selected banks.
General Shikapwasha however notes that government will only be able to give a comprehensive statement on how much it raised and spent on the funeral after the all the data has been put together.
Government had put the budget for Dr Chiluba’s funeral expenses at about K4.6 billion.
And General Shikapwasha has thanked the people of Zambia for exhibiting unity during the state funeral for Dr. Chiluba.
He says the people of Zambia should also ensure that they live on with the legacy of peace that the former leader has left behind.
General Shikapwasha has also thanked the countries that were represented at the funeral for their moral support.

Just money for cadres.
THIS IS THE END OF THIS STORYÂ THAT’SÂ HOW CRIMINALS BEHAVE THEY ASKED FOR HELP FROM PEOPLE AND NOW THEY CAN’T DISCLOSE HOW MUCH THEYÂ RECEIVED!THEN WHY ISSUE THE STATEMENT WHEN ALL ISSUES ABOUT FUNERAL EXPENSES HAVE NOT BEEN RECONCILED ?ITS VERY EASY TO INFORM ZAMBIANS HOW MONEY WAS DEPOSITED IN THESE ACCOUNTS ESPECIALLY THESE ACCOUNTS AT THE TIME OFÂ OPENINGÂ WERE AT ZERO DEPOSIT.HE SHOULD SAY FROM THE FOLLOWING BANK K2 WAS DEPOSITED SO ON AND SO FOURTH THEN ADD UP THE TOTAL SUM…Â WHILSTÂ WEE WAIT FOR THE BREAKDOWN OF K4.6 BILLION THAT WAS RELEASED FROM GOVERNMENT.
good leadership Shika my brada
YOUR TIME IS UP REV. SHIKAPWASHA. YOU HAVE EATEN ALOT OF MONEY FROM OUR MINGLE RESOURCES. ITS TIME FOR YOU TO GO AND LOOK AFTER YOUR CHURCH IF AT ALL U HAVE ONE.
9 billion kwacha was raised.just tell us how much was spent and wats the balance.
You fool, Money was not raised but realised.
“State raises enough money for FTJ funeral and MMD campaign!!!!” “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!”
This thieving monkey from the circus, then what was all that pledging you were asking for? and where will the money contributed already by the unsuspecting members of the public go? You, Horny Shikapwasha are an embicile! You are a mor/on and a half-witted buaffoon together with your chimpanzee friend George Kunda. You arrshole should go and give a sermon in hell because that’s where you belong. Sick and tired of these filthy stinking piles of dog sh/it and cow dung politicians
Shikapwasha, the budget for Chiluba’s funeral was K10 billion! Stop lying, sir. Sata was a bit right to say the funeral was rather too commercial. Among the expenditure categories were payment to the MMD Funeral Choir, payment to William Banda and his cadres and also to other musicians who perfomed at the funeral.
The late President had a lot of cash in foreign banks. Sir, does it make sense for your Government to lobby for funds from ordinary people when the billions the late stored in foreign banks could be used? In African culture, when a person rich in cows dies, he/she mourns themselves. This means that the same cows owned are slaughtered for food at the funeral, sometimes as many as ten.
SHikas boyi, nichekeleko kaili
Iwe chi Shikapwasha stop the nonsense tell your boss to announce the date for elections so that we know whwn you will be arrested.
Come on Minister, thats raw data, elaborate more, why come show your face when you cant explain in detail how much was raised and spent?
Shikapwasha, please don’t be ridiculous, stop those monkey tricks and tell us how the billions of taxpayers kwacha were spent, wasted and pocketed by yourselves. For many crooks late Chiluba’s death and funeral was an oppotrtunity to make a killing. Come on give us the facts and figures now! Surely if you are not careful this will be another of the many campaign issues against you and your useless party.
What none of you seen the headline – Govet gets $225 US million from mines.
They got their money and used it already
A SNAKE breeder has been killed by a bite from one of his king cobras – days after he boasted they would not harm him.
Luke Yeomans, 45, had a heart attack in Nottinghamshire after the bite from the deadly reptile injected venom into his bloodstream.
It is a shame for government to solicit for funds when it was a state funeral. Well wishers have their way of supporting funerals and the government should not be in the forefront of opening accounts for funeral purposes.
How much was raised? we know it was one of the fundraising venture for MMD members. can you show us how the money was spent. i mean to know how much went for sleeping, traveling, mourning, allowances and may more other ministerial allowances. It is the culture of allowances that we are in. As tax payer i have the right to know how this money was used otherwise i will ask my lawyers to open a docket against this mmd thing. you shikapwasha tell us how you used the money.
Tribalist,
sir who? Walimonapo sir,i ruffian noko amalaiti muchinyo.
Yet another reason why these dogs must be voted out… The don’t give honest information..
Yet another reason why these dogs must be voted out… They don’t give honest information..
I said it long before people started donating. I will say it “once more again for the second time”. We need a financial report, giving a break down of “income and expenditure”. These are simple economics. Let Ronnie give chance to the professionals in that field to do the job if he himself is incompetent, and not rushing to the media to expose his ignorance.
What is this retired Gen Ronnie Shika telling the nation. Its all lies what data collection is he talking about. It does not take long for an efficient accountnat or administrator to tabulate the costs with supporting vouchers and receipts by now as most of the transaction were on cash basis. There is supposed to be a small component to be accounted for by a few days remaining whislt people trickle to the funeral lodge. Otherwise the general should have gone a bit futher to compile a summary of well wishers who contributed in what form so that the general public have a clear picture and this will encourage others to donate in future when faced with a national disaster or any needy situation. When people call for transparency those in power go on defence and cry blue tears. Why hide facts.
“comprehensive statement on how much it raised and spent on the funeral”…c’mon how long does that take its not like the funeral is ongoing…these guys are jokers; they take people or dump asses!!Â
Can we have a comprehensive financial report and not press briefings. We want to know how you spent the money. And please no delays. Before elections!!!!!!
Zambians if don’t stand up for yourselves and demand more from your leaders, you will be forever marginalized.
Sorry MMD is gone in western province if ba RB will come now.Coming after parliament is disolved will not help thing out. Some minister were here just in hotels and came back lied to RB ati all is well.Since the Mongu massacre the President has never been to wastern province, but his was ku copperbelt kuma lilo ya ba ku church in that mini bus massacre.Luapula massacre he has never there. This are very inportant issues bane. What is he going tell the people of Luapula and western, since the ba VP BA KAUNDA said police did within the powers of the law.Only a **** can vote for some one who has sent [people] police men to kill your children. He sent Dr Somoni Jere and his men to kill our children.
When the report to the public and yet your term has come to end of the road.Tomorrow is first July Gen ex service man.Any time RB wil give the date for the elections.Don’t kubeba.Young Patrick Mwanawansa has all the data on all kabwalala’s.THe late dad gave him all the files in France and this are in the strong room in some country i know.Don’t Kubeba
A few accounts and it takes months to give the amount collected, what kind of lazy people are you? The quality of leadership from former Zambian servicemen has been disappointing to say the least, some are in prison for corruption and other vices and then we have Ronnie…. what a stinker! Â
So let me get this right – he is saying they raised “enough” money but then can’t say how much money that was….. and this guy is “Information Minister”?
As No. 2 says, the accounts all started with zero so does not does not take an advanced degree (not even an honorary degree like so-called “Dr.” Chiluba’s) to figure out how much money was received.
