Cross border Market traders to set up international trading centre

The Zambia Cross Border Traders and Integrated Business Association has acquired a piece of land in Kitwe for the establishment of a modern international trading centre.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kitwe today, Association Acting Secretary General, Foster Jumbe said the market will house both local and foreign traders that come to trade in Zambia.

Mr. Jumbe said the market which will be located in Buchi Residential area adjacent to Buchi Hall, will help the country to raise forex through the foreign traders that will be coming in.

He further said the establishment of the market will also increase revenue collection for the local authority as well as reduce the harassment of foreign cross borders traders from Chisokone market as they will be required to trade from the new market.

Mr. Jumbe also stated that the association is also working on establishing similar markets at the Jimbe and Kasumbalesa border posts to enhance cross border trade.

He said there is need for traders to be proactive in business as President Hakainde Hichilema continues making frantic efforts to open up trade opportunities with neighbouring countries and beyond.

Mr. Jumbe has since appealed to government to improve the status of the roads leading to the border points.

He noted that currently the roads leading to Jimbe and Kasumbalesa border points were in a deplorable state.
