FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has said it is almost impossible to organise international friendly matches for Chipolopolo ahead of next month’s Africa Cup qualifier against Lesotho at home in Ndola.
Zambia will host Lesotho on 23rd March in the Group H encounter at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium as the 2023 AFCON qualifiers resume.
Lesotho have already played a friendly match against Malawi which finished 1-1 in Lilongwe last Saturday.
Writing in his weekly column, Kamanga said Zambia may not play a friendly match because both the local and foreign leagues are currently active.
“We know that there are anxieties around the Chipolopolo AFCON campaign which resumes next month. The coach is back home to consolidate preparations having taken time to check on some foreign based players to align their club duties with his plans for the national team,” Kamanga wrote.
“It was always known that there would be a FIFA window for friendly matches before the AFCON qualifiers, which is why we made sure the team was engaged most of last year. With foreign leagues fully active and the local league in full swing it is almost impossible to organize any sort of international match,” Kamanga stated.
Meanwhile, Kamanga appealed to the fans to turn up in numbers at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to cheer for Chipolopolo.
Its ok then just organise a local camp and then play aganist the local teams the coach should see the players in action before the Lesotho games. So far he has not done any coaching to see what he has at his disposal
