The United Party for National Development (UPND) has accused the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) of looting the national treasury in the run-up to the national elections.
UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma says that the UPND has evidence that the MMD has gotten bicycles meant for the poor people.
Mr. Kakoma discloses that the MMD has forcefully gotten bicycles from the ministry of community development and social services, and redistributed to the MMD candidates to entice them to vote for them.
Mr. Kakoma in an interview with QFM radio further discloses that the MMD has also gotten money meant for women’s clubs to aid its campaigns.
He says that the action by the MMD cannot entirely be described as corruption, but also plunder of national resources for selfish gains.
Mr. Kakoma has warned Zambians against voting for a political party that is plundering resources meant for national use.
He has expressed sadness that the MMD is selfishly campaigning using tax payer’s money at the expense of the poor Zambians

PF has been exposing a lot of anomalies in the run up to elections day. UNPD & other Opposition parties thought PF was wasting time when clearly the elections playing fields where NOT even. The other Opposition parties were thinking they were ahead of PF. PF was fghting for all Zambians to stop the misuse or abuse of resources on behalf of all Zambians i.e. vehicles MMD brought into the country Duty was not paid. Its sad that it’s just now UPND is realising MMD corrupt when in the night, they have been trying to come up with a PACT with them.
Mr Kakoma, if you have run out of money for campaign just say so. There are still 35 more days to campaign. I hope by then people will start walking on foot to address Rallies.

Elections are won by money in democratic states. You cannot expect to run campaigns without raising money. All along in Zambia, the Party and its government (UNIP) simply grabbed state resources to carry out its campaigns. MMD came along in 1991, raised its own funding due to numerous well wishers, but by 1996 the P.I.G. returned. Levy was voted in by tax payers’ money in 2001. Court evidence is there. In 2006, everyone’s eyes were closed because of the trial against Chiluba, BUT at last Zambians are woken up. RB is clever. He knew this would happen and raised funding from various sources not to use GRZ money at last. All that the opposition can do is belch halitotic hot air. No evidence.

I have an issue, not with the MMD getting bicycles mean for the poor (for it is very difficult to prove this), but with the reasoning, logic and rationale a govt used to buy bicycles for the poor in the first place. Can anybody explain to me how bicycles were or are going to help with either food productivity or poverty reduction even if they were given to the poor people.
I leave others to discuss the alleged plunder of bicycles and want to just concern myself with ‘what the logic of intending to distribute the bikes was’
I therefore postulate that the bicycles were bought not for any poor people but for the campaign in the very first place.Â
