President Rupiah Banda has warned senior Chieftainess NKomesha Mukamabo II that she would face the wrath of the law if she goes ahead and victimizes her subjects for supporting him and the ruling MMD.
Reacting to reports that Senior Chieftainess Nkomesha Mukamambo II was threatening headmen and other villagers supporting the MMD, President Banda said the traditional ruler risked being visited by the law.
President Banda said no one, including Chieftainess Nkomesha, has the right to infringe on an individual’s right to support a candidate and party of their choice.
Mr Banda also wondered where the Chieftainess, who refused to be visited by him, would get her salaries if she continued does not support government of the day.
President Banda has urged the electorate in Chongwe district to vote for the MMD and whose candidates who know what they are doing.
President Banda advised the electorate in the area to vote for the MMD or risk going backwards economically by voting for people who give them unrealistic promises.
Addressing a rally at Chongwe Basic School grounds this afternoon, President Banda said the MMD is the only party that has made promises and embarked on fulfilling them.
He said his he promised to rehabilitate old schools, roads and health institutions while constructing new ones and his government was fulfilling them at a steady rate for anyone to see.
“We also promised job-creation and this we have done although not enough because of the ever-growing population. However, vote for us so that we continue growing the economy of Zambia together,” he said.
President Banda, who was accompanied by First Lady, Thandiwe, veteran politician Newstead Zimba, ULP president Sakwiba Sikota and other senior party officials, charged that his government as scored a lot of successes in all sectors of the economy during his three-year tenure of office.

The Executive Presidency per our constitution gives no right to anyone to have the jurisdiction of chasing citizens from their properties on the basis of political affiliation or voting right. The Executive Presidency enjoys the mandate of protecting every citizen from any threat internal or external and has executive powers to withdraw his recognition from any chief found inimical to the people meant to be serving. Zambia is not a monarchy but a constitutional state.
My God, we wonder what Chieftainess Nkomesha will say and do when MMD inevitably wins the Presidency and Masebo loses her parliamentary seat in Chongwe. She must learn to read events on the ground. How can anybody defend somebody who is curtailing other people’s rights to political expression? If Nkomeshya wants to support Pathetic Failures(pf) she is free to do so but why should she victimise those with a different political affiliation to herself? Is this what we should expect if by an unfortunate turn of fate, Sata wins the presidency in the next election? If pf have credible policies, why should anyone be intimidated to vote for them?

The chieftainess has shown that she will punish those with divergent views.
And that is what RB is saying it is unlawful for chieftainess to punish anyone with different views from hers; and that doing so is violeting the laws of this country.

Did I test sour grapes? RB should focus on campaigning for his party, not threats on chiefs. RB is talking as if he pays Chiefs salaries from his own pocket, this exposes why he treats the national treasury like his personal account, get money for unplanned projects and unexplained expenditures.

Please leave Nkomeshya be, she has every right to express herself whichever way thus stimulating debate and diversity of opinion and not to be demeaned. Her chiefdom is one most inundated with settlers from all corners of Zambia some of whom deliberately want to be oblivious to the fact that their NRC’s bear space stating who their chief is! It is to the chiefdom stated where one is sent packing if found wanting as a settler. The position of headman is a privilege bestowed by chiefs appointment and hinges on loyalty and possession leadership of skills open to all Zambians in a chiefdom though the chief may restrict choice to her/his “true” subjects. She may be wrong regarding the Land Act but this is where chiefs got cheated by those replacing colonialists. Carry on ba Nkomeshya!
By virtue of having been an MCC and Minister of State for Decentralisation in UNIP (whatever she knows) Chieftainess Nkomeshya thinks she is so special and very senior and can say anything in public regardless of whether it makes sense or not – under the veil of agitating for national development — that she lamentably failed to influence when she occupied influential positions (not that that matters). The Head of State is supreme – you need to show respect whether you like him or not. He was elected unlike you a chief. Let us not promote despondency and anarchy — RB will not occupy that position forever. This is the same Chief who a few months ago was saying she can evict Mikango Barracks – talk about s.tup.idity and arragance! She needs to be put in her right place.
