CONFUSION surrounded the appearance of Committee of Citizens executive director, Gregory Chifire before the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) yesterday with reporters from various media houses left speculating about the whereabouts of the man.

The reporters who had gathered outside the DEC offices after word went round that Mr Chifire would appear before the investigative agency, gave up and dispersed after they learnt that the outspoken NGO leader had actually presented himself and inconspicuously left the premises.

Earlier, Mr Chifire gave contradictory statements when he told the Times that he would not appear before DEC officers.

DEC spokesperson, Samuel Silomba, later confirmed that Mr Chifire was at the commission offices.

Mr Chifire later confirmed that he was questioned by officers from DEC for close to two hours over his allegations that President Sata’s son, Mulenga, recently acquired two luxury vehicles worth K1.8 billion.
“So you mean you did not see when I was leaving DEC. Sorry about that,” Mr Chifire said.

Reporters from Times and Zambia Daily Mail had camped outside the DEC offices from about 15: 30 hours to 19:00 hours.

Mr Silomba had, earlier in the afternoon, informed the media that Mr Chifire, the whistle blower, had presented himself to the DEC after being summoned.

By press time, Mr Silomba could not be reached for further comments on the matter as his mobile phone was off.

The DEC already interviewed Mr Sata (Mulenga) over the matter after he presented himself soon after the investigative wing sent out a call-out notice.

  1. very Poor journalism!
we all dislike Chifire but surely reporting that he didnt appear minus gathering facts?
and camping for him, why?? just for a picture, so you journalists were camped from 15:30 to 19:00 and DEC failed to tell you that they had already interviewed the guy?
Or did you fail to ask?
    Strange really!

  2. But but it seems he showed up. I think this is what the embarassed journalist is trying to say. So much about yesterday’s “gotcha!” headlines about him failing to appear. Subsequently, PF cadres who were patting each others  backs, are scratching their heads

  3. The journalists should have confirmed with DEC before writing falsehoods. Any apology from credible media houses so far?

Chifire had good reason to be discreet, obviously to avoid being mobbed and for security reason. True wise man from the east indeed.

  4. I have always suspected that smart people do not go into journalism.  All the clever kids at school went into science, engineering or medicine at university.  The ones who could not get into anything sensible even like teaching went into journalism.  Now we are seeing the consequences of riffraff journos.  They got us into this mess with Satan from their overblown PFost.  Now they cannot even notice somebody they would like to interview.  How dumb is that?  Chifire’s photos are all over and they can’t recognise him?  They are only good at restating handed out press statements!

  5. Well, he is Katele’s nephew and the legendary Luapulan sangoma shared with Chifire umuti wa invincibility! In my language, we say Chifire kiwa mulyani wa sikuyeti!

  6. The dude ” Chifire”is trying to make himself popular though in a wrong way,he has some politcal aspirations it seems.Surely fliping his tongue carelessly isn’t the best start…

  7. Bravo to Mr Chifire for upholding his professional integrity. Taking into account that The Times of Zambia, Daily Mail and ZNBS and Govt media journalists have joined a consortium with The Post in the field of misinformation, after having been corrupted by the PF-induced viruses, Mr. Chifire has responded well by reporting to the approriate Investigating Wing. Besides, Mr. Chifire is not answerable to the The Post and the current docile set of Public Media institutions. This will allow the DEC to analyse issues independently. Let’s wait and see the way forward.

  8. so your waited for him upto 19:00 yaba……Okey he has given his side ,now arest that SATA junior ,no more excuses.

  9. hehehehehe am loving this guy,i think he has a genuine claim but sata has DEC in his pocket so the whole truth will come out after PF leaves after 10 years such is our system,he did well to blow

  10. Every day the president has something to tell the nation. The reality is dawning. In my language we say ‘Ukaziputa limba.’ That is how hot the seat of the presidency is. If you will respond to everything you will respond even to a buzzing fly. But does the president forget how he supported the Barotse claims? It’s the same even now. The opposition are doing the same. But an inquiry must be constituted to probe the killing of two people in Ndola. Same logic…….

  11. I hope all the pf trolls take back the insults they hurled at this brave man yesterday. The DEC will now have to question Mulenga.

  12. When you have a point then you have nothing to fear, for the truth doesnt change, go Chifire go it is your time to shine, ofcourse with data on this matter, we shall back you up if you prove your point

  13. He left with a big brown envelope left by mulenga, assisted by dec to sneak from the building, wait this is the end of this issue.
