ZESCO’S POWER SURGE BLOWS OUT POWER’S DYNAMO.

Zesco United shifted into 2nd place from 3rd after a resounding 3-1 home win over troubled Power Dynamos at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola this afternoon.

Wedson Nyirenda’s sides win over his former childhood club sees Zesco level on 16 points with leaders Zanaco including now 3rd placed Young Arrows-both sides are in action on Sunday in separate week 9 fixtures.

Zesco were efficient in their application on the filed today against a very basic Power.

Power were slow, unimaginative and looking like they are going to have a rough time this season should they continue to churn out such an awful displays of football.

The hosts took a deserved lead in the 8th minute through striker Nicholas Zulu who tapped-in the ball from the far left post after a Rainford Kalaba right cross was headed down into the scorers path by Enoch Sakala on the goal line.

Sakala also got in on the act two minutes before the opening half-hour mark with another simple tap-in after a sublime one-two defense-splitting move involving himself and midfielder Yonah Mwango.

Zesco took a 2-0 lead into the break as Power struggled with only teenage winger Kennedy Mudenda the only spark in the side that sadly failed to ignite Power’s impotent Dynamo.

Zesco were 3-0 up in the 50th minute this time Mwango on target with a cheeky flick of the ball over a very suspect Power goalkeeper Kennedy Kalale.

Power’s consolation came in the 63rd minute when Zambia Under 23 midfielder Norman Munthali saw his effect benefiting from a deflection off a Zesco defenders’ body before deceiving goalkeeper Jacob Banda.

The win means Zesco are now unbeaten at home in the league this season in all their five games played there while Power are still 10th after collecting just 1 point in their last three games.

The pressure is now on, on coach Lawrence Mweemba despite Power officials denying the trainer was given a three-game must-win ultimatum that begun today or be shown the way out of Arthur Davies.

Elsewhere, Konkola Blades also joined the top three on 16 points but are 4th after a 2-1 home win over 2004 league champions Red Arrows at Konkola stadium in Chililabombwe today.

However, Blades had to crawl from 1-0 down in the first half after Victor Lupiya had given the visitors a 41st minute lead.

Second half goals from the talented Zambia Under 23 playmaker Stophira Nsunzu and Willie Chimpinde in the 47th and 57h minutes respectively ensured Blades grabbed the 3 points to stay in the top 5.

At Kafubu stadium in Luanshya, Roan United moved from 15th to 13th for at least 24 hours after drawing 1-1 with Lusaka Dynamos.
