The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has challenged party members allegedly planning to challenge party president Hakainde Hichilema to come out in the open instead of causing instability in the party.
UPND secretary general Winston Chibwe said that anyone who has plans of challenging Mr. Hichilema should wait for the party convention.
Mr. Chibwe said that it was cowardice behavior to rush to the media to spread unwarranted information about the party president when the right channel of dialogue can be followed.
Speaking in an interview with QFM, Mr. Chibwe said that the UPND is a democratic party and any person with intentions to stand on any party position should patiently wait for the party to hold its convention where new leaders will be put in office.

In the past elections,the upnd and mmd weakened each other in their strongholds and gave pf chance to win. Upnd and mmd should form a single party, they can make it in 2016: Pf has already lost it in sp,wp,nwp,parts of cp and e/p.

Am shocked to see people claiming uPND has no leaders. So what if HH steps down. This kind of thinking is what has made us poor as a country. When time was up for KK to go, we said who will replace him and started mourning. KK should have left in the late 70’d but we kept a man who had exhausted his ideas till he became useless. Now, HH is not the only capable leader in the UPND. Zambia has a sead stream of leaders and no one is indespensible. HH;s fortunes have been plummeting, so it is time for someone else to take over. Sata himself should never be allowed another term. Democracy entails that when time comes call for elections and people interested step forward to be chosen by the people. So, MMD, UPND, FDD and UNIP need new leaders. just call for elections and the process will produce
Rockido: who has lost more support between HH and Sata since 20th September? I think the political landscape is changing since Sata was given a chance to govern. The negative rating by Fitch, the unpopular 4% salary increment ceiling for civil servants and govt grant aided institutions, no jobs, no money in our pockets, high school fees, confusion ib the running of govt, insults to chiefs, realignments without rationale etc. Wait and see! UPND know that a convention is due this year 2012 and since no dates (and therefore no serious plans) have been announced, they are just telling those making noise about the removal of HH to shut the freak up.
I have inside info. Here is the date of the convention. NEVER if HH has his way. Its called the golden rule – he who has the gold rules. So it is up to UPND members to make more noise and declare the tenure of current office bearers null and void if no convention is held this year.

HH needs fresh mandate from UPND followers as we stand his influence as a national leader is waning.Personally,although he is the biggest financier of the party,he should stepdown and allow fresher person to take the helms of UPND to the next level.A lot of people have lost trust in his style of leadership and his claim to own the party.Winston, don’t try to intimidate members who are willing to take the party to another level, allow them to express their feelings without fear, afterall HH sold himself to Banda and MMD by accepting govt contract, which had strings attached.

Lets refresh our memories, HH at one time threatened to withdraw his financial input into the party if somebody else took over the party presidency. HH is party president because of his financial muscle and not out of popularity. He can’t command a following anymore just like his friend RB. His own following is lamenting having left the pact cos they can only watch the missed soup from a far.The guy is living in denial, he is such a looser, had a chance but blew it, why even call him HH when he is now hh.
All that goes up must come down. HH’s political journey has come to an end. He can do well to concentrate on his businesses. Those who want him to continue are ticks who have been surviving on his successful economic empire and they fear being deflated without sucking him through political patronage.
