Rennes Loans Felix Katongo To Chateauroux

Share

Zambia international midfielder Felix Katongo has joined French Ligue 2 club Chateauroux on loan from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennes until the end of the 2008/2009 season.

Rennes official website confirmed Katongo’s loan deal to Chateauroux where he hopes to get more playing opportunities after being a peripheral figure at the Ligue 1 side whom he joined in January at the end of Zambia’s campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana.

“I needed to play. I hope that when I return from loan, I will be able to again play for Stade Rennes,” Katongo told Rennes site.
“The team (Stade Rennes) is mainly already made up and it is difficult to make a first team place.

“This is a good move for me to seek some playing time elsewhere. I will fight every day to play as often as possible and be able to express and show my qualities on the pitch.

Katongo said the decision to seek a loan move to Chateauroux came after recent consultations with Rennes officials.

“I decided to leave Rennes. The bosses asked to me whether I wanted to go on loan. They said to me: if you want to remain, you remain; if you want to leave, you can leave. I looked at my situation and I decided to join Chateauroux.

Meanwhile, Katongo was expected to make his competitive debut for Chateauroux by press time Friday evening in Chateauroux’s Ligue 2 home game against Metz.

Katongo is the third Zambian player to join Chateauroux after striker Jacob Mulenga who has been at the club since 2004 and midfielder Stophira Sunzu who joined from Afrisports in September.

The 24-year-old former Green Buffaloes midfielder previous played for Jomo Cosmos of South Africa and currently Zambia’s top scorer this year with 4 international goals.

  1. Thats sounds like a good move ma brother, wish u all the best and help this team becoz of late they have dropped alot of points.

  2. You certainly need to be playing and not warming the bench. You have talent, just do what you know best. Who knows, others may see what Rennes failed to see in you – QUALITY.

  3. Thats a good move for him. He is very talented but it must have been tough at Rennes. Lets hope he gets the chance to prove himself.

  4. This is the only topic where the desparate PF (Poor Finishing) supporters have not turned political. Very supprising indeed at how these opportunists have kept quite and not mention Sata here. Anyway that is a good move Katongo. Please play well that side, we wish you the very best.

  5. good move mwaiche, felix.Bullets were made to be fired, not stored in an ammunition depot. Go somewhere where you will shine and not fade on the bench. This boy has talent that can be harnessed.

  6. Ok lets be frank….if a team sends a player on loan it means they are of below standard to them and this is one way of offloading unwanted players who are found useless. I hope he will do better with a new team…..

  7. It’s like moving from grade 2 to grade 1. In Mbesuma’s case, he’s gone back to nursery. But tough guys forge ahead. Best of luck.

  8. Whichever way you look at it, French League albeit Division 2 is better than Angola where he was and so it is a positive step.

  9. #16&17. Being sent on loan does not entail that a player is useless. It is a way of enhancing a player’s development by exposing them to first team football. It helps to boost a player’s confidence. Even big name players such as David Beckham were previously loaned to lower division sides.

  10. So you think Beckham is a big name. We must be watching different games. He is one of the spice girls and he lives in hollywood. The last I heard he was modelling. Big name my backside.

  11. And I sure hope Katongo is not going for one of the spice girls or modelling. He won’t look good advertising underwear. Not to speak of Mbesuma.

  12. I didnt say he was the best footballer. I said big name. Tell me that you dont know any succesful players who have had loan spells.

  13. I know some but Beckham isn’t a big name ‘footballer’. Katongo to me is better; just that he was born in the wrong country. All he has to do is raise eyebrows where he is going, learn new skills and be a leader. I have respect.

  14. Speaking of advertising, what do you think of Katongos backflips? They would be cool on the new fifa game. All he needs to do is marry a spice girl!

  15. Why is it that Zed Players always have to settle for second best…sad sad sad…:-(

am sure there is another african player in the same position who has happened to prove himself and has been keeping Felix on the Bench…

  16. I don’t want him ending up in prison. Zambians have developed the habit of shooting nigerian boxers or their decendants. Let him go for Mel C. Is she still gaining weight?

  17. What`s wrong our players that they can`t even make it in the starting lineup of these weaker leagues.French league is supposed to be a stepping stone to highly competitive European leagues such as Laliga or EPL.How have the likes of Drogba,Essien and many other African players been successful in making such a transition while Zambians have failed probably with just the exception of Chris Katongo.Chris seem to be the only one making some progress from Danish league to Bundesliga.
FAZ must seriously look into helping our players progress instead of just hoping that our national team should perform wonders without any basis for such expectations.

  18. A player should be the one to decide where he plays so if Katongo is happy where he has gone let him stay there,he will still bring us pride as a nation.Better to be playing competitive low division football abroad earning good money & respect than being in a home team earning peanuts, priority for us all is food on out tables not so.

  19. I think part of the problem comes from the way player transfers are handled,

there’s just too much meddling due to greed,

as a result these young players who are usually semi illiterate suffer,

think of it how many under under 20 promising players have fallen by the roadside in the past 15 yrs,

Mayuka will soon be the latest victim of Kalusha’s greed, poor boy

  20. Zambia has lost 1-0, very poor play by our young lads. Fwayo Tembo was our only impressive player, the chap showed maturity. Its true he’s beyond the U-20 side.

  21. Is that true? Good times! FAZ should now draw up a serious preparation program. There is too much maths involved in these qualifiers so let them leave no stone unturned

  22. No# 20 you are spot on with your views on the Spice boy, I have always said he is one of the reasons why England is an average team 60%. Is it just my reasoning or is the England national team the zambia of Europe. By this I mean the talk to much, have not won Sh** but most fans still back them; let alone tonnes of tax payers money. Where is Robin Mukandawire(Hood) when you need him most, so as money can be given to the diserving madame Esther(Marriam) Phiri, and lady Melissa Nawa.

  23. Truth. The difference between the Zambian and the English teams: Zambian is high on talent but low on dedication. England is high on dedication but low on talent.

  24. Truth. The difference between the Zambian and the English teams: Zambia is high on talent but low on dedication. England is high on dedication but low on talent.

  25. 34. Mwami Bazungu, Felix “Katman” Katongo is not a soldier and so is not a Staff Sergeant. His elder brother, Chris “Tsunami” Katongo is the soldier and Staff Sergeant.

  26. Zambian players cant improve because you the fans are the first to offer them mosi instead of juice. Ubwalwa amaboyz. Na tu glory balafulungana.

  27. It hurts that him too failed to make it to the first team…teti tukonkanyepo muli iyi stylo.the next we will hear is “felix has been released”

  28. Good luck. Guys same happened to E’to. Real Madrid sent him on loan to Marloca. He proved them wrong. I hope Felix can do the same.

  29. zambian pros. ????? Sinkala went to Bayern Munich, without playing first team football was loaned to some small team and that trend continued, today i don’t even the club is playing for.so young boy katongo work hard, go back to rennes and play first team football and not that trash in ligue 2. when are we going to see these chaps playing in champions league?
