Information and Broadcasting Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has called for specialized reporting among journalists.

Mr Malupenga says specialization will enable journalists gain knowledge on specific developments in various sectors of the economy.

The Permanent Secretary also advised journalists not to focus mainly on politics because some of the statements do not add value to the development of the country.

Mr Malupenga was speaking at the launch of the 2012 MTN Media Awards in Lusaka this morning.

And MTN Zambia has increased the overall media awards prize money to 25 million kwacha.

This is from last year’s 10 million kwacha in the Chief Executive officer’s award.

And MTN Chief Marketing Officer Enerst Fonternel says his firm has a social responsibility of giving back the profits into the community.

Mr Fonternel L also said that the media plays an important role in promoting development in the country.

He disclosed that MTN Zambia has set aside one hundred million dollars for its network expansion in the country.

The telecommunication award prize money has been pegged at 10 million Kwacha , with the Education Award going for four million kwacha.

Business and economic journalism award will attract a 4 million kwacha cash while the Sports Journalism prize will go for 7 million Kwacha among others.

  1. Just take an example from BBC: technology journalists, political analysts, war journalist. I am not sure pa Zed. Maybe regional or tribe based journalism. This should start from the education system where these guys are trained.

  2. An example of specialised reporting is George Chella specialising in writing negative and false stories about RB till he lost elections

  3. Good advice. What schools do these journalists go to. One would expect them to know thaAre they only taught how to specialise in politics?

Secondly, companies the journalists work for are narrow minded too. Surely their CEOs and chief editors should see the need to specialize. Why is it that in Zambia, nearly all media houses seem to be interested in reporting politics? Could it be that teh Zambian readership is only interested in reading about politics. Is the market and the vendors that narrow minded then? Is this a Zambian society thing?

  4. Malupenga just enjoy the friuts of your specialized bais reporting in ensuring change of govt. You are not fit to be the boss of civil servants, what motivation do you think exists in a ministry with better qualified and experienced people only for you to be their boss because you supported Ba Sata. Keeping your thoughts to self will be helpful. PF you have over politicized civil service and this will cost you soon.

  5. I am happy I am not a journalist.. these liars, ba kachepa, ba mutola nkani. I can not stand the fact that I must feed my kids by writing lies. How would I tell my kids not to lie anyway?

  6. Just shut up iwe kaponya.:(( How sad that someone as uneducated as you sir should be involved in something that is way above your level of thinking. Go and tell your friend Sata that.

  7. These are generally terrific eye glasses! I acquired the exact same set of two gascans for 6 several years. Really the only reason I’m swapping them now could be that we lost them.

  8. I simply got these plus they are fantastic, all are objective glasses so i would not require a much better set of two. I want to say they’re great glasses.
