The Casket for the Late Former Vice President of the Republic of Zambia George Kunda

The Supreme and High Courts this morning held a joint valedictory session in honor of the late former republican vice president George Kunda who was a lawyer by profession.

The session was presided over by Chief Justice Ernest Sakala, and those in attendance included ECZ chairperson Justice Ireen Mambilima, Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito and Attorney General Mumba Malila.

Others who attended the session included Solicitor General Musa Mwenye, High Court Judges, and several lawyers.

And Chief Justice Ernest Sakala has described the late Mr Kunda as strong supporter of judicial autonomy who also contributed significantly to the enactment of the progressive laws.

Justice Sakala also noted that the late Mr. Kunda will also be remembered for having been a strong defender of separation of powers, rule of law and good governance.

And Solicitor General Musa Mwenye said Mr. Kunda was a fearless opponent who was also very courageous to defend his opinions.

Meanwhile, Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) president James Banda wished the bereaved family God’s comfort during this hard time of mourning.

And former LAZ president Christopher Mundia said the former Vice president will be remembered for the crucial role he played to advocate for the multi-partism clause in the Zambian constitution.

Mr Mundia however noted that Mr. Kunda just like any other person could have made mistakes but that those mistakes are overshadowed by his good works.

Mr Kunda who was a State Counsel will put to rest at Leopards hill memorial park this afternoon.

The first Zambian Republican President also said Mr. Kunda has left an impact that will be felt by everyone and advised the nation to mourn him with dignity.

Former vice president Enock Kavindele says Mr Kunda will be remembered for his great contribution in Parliament as a leader of government business in the house.

Earlier, Former Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti had said that Mr Kunda was a man who did not know social life but dedicated all his life to serving the nation.

The Attorney General Mumba Malila also described him as a hardworking and focused lawyer.

    • We are human beings, not animals. Let’s exhibit dignity ba Bwana Mkubwa. What’s the matter with you?

    • Iwe Jelitta, you’re so limited in your understanding of issues. Educate yourself thoroughly. Grade 7 isn’t the ultimate.

  6. “Do you believe in life after death?” the boss asked one of his employees.

    “Yes, sir,” the clerk replied.

“That’s good,” the boss said. “After you left early yesterday to go to your grandmother’s funeral, she stopped in to see you.”

  7. George will go down as the most intelligent leader of the house that this nation has ever had. His debates were always above board and he always stood his ground. He was truely a genius in his field and we salute him for the positive contribution that he made to mother Zambia. M.H.S.R.I.E.P

  8. Mulongoti please please, how can you tumfya your former boss that “he didn’t know social life”.
What a Zambia, are these the lawyers we can produce??
    – Mutomba Nchito
    – Mumba Malila
    – Musa Mwenye (not sure about him)
    – Christopher Mundia
    – Ireen Mambilima (only respected because she is a grandmother)
What an embarrassment, now I see why George Kunda was so important.

    • Are all the above listed below par? kekekekekeke kikikiki…wanipaya! Maybe you can tell us whom you hold highly then we shall appreciate your reasoning.

  9. Rest in peace GK. will miss your checks and balances in parliament! May the Almight God confort the family members.

  10. Its amazing…
Zambians are always tactless enough to eulogize former leaders who ripped off them… poor Zed…
Anyway, GOOD RIDDANCE to him !!

  11. First it was Levy and now George.Am one of the best young lawyers because of the inspiration i got from you guys.Rest in peace senior counsel and greet my man levy for me.

  12. I read many hot air about his “great leadership”…
    remember this
“the corruption of Frederick Chiluba’s 10-year-rule is a joke when compared with the theft of public resources in just three years of Rupiah Banda’s government.”

indeed he was a great leader as Veep… LOL LOL

    • A very silly statement by an extremely useless Home Affairs minister. We wait to see quantitative data – if it will ever come out. A veiled way of trying to shield all those plunderers from Chiluba’s era who predominantly hail from the Home Affairs minister’s region. GK did his part – nuff respect.

  13. @Jelitta’,so for you social life is sex, you are too preme, by the way all those +H.I.V got it through sex, anyway I know you just wanted to say he died of HIV .If those where the exact words Mulongoti used then for me I am sad because he insulted the dead because it means he simply meant he(mr kunda) had no time to make and be with friends which is only for mad people.Maybe Mulongoti is simply consoling the widow not to take the blame on widow.

  14. After listening to gospel music being played in his honour,I surely felt da loss,me who neva evn shook hands wd him,wat more his famuly members?pliz God confort dem thru yo holly spirit!
