Police in Lusaka are said to be keeping a close eye on new UPND member William Banda on suspicion that he might be scheming to spearhead future demonstrations.
Police suspect that William Banda who was associated with violence during the reign of the former ruling MMD could have a hand in the demonstrations.
Sources have disclosed police also suspect that William Banda was part of the UPND members that organized the youths to demonstrate on Wednesday.
The sources have further revealed that a team of police officers has been constituted to closely monitor the maneuvers of the former MMD Lusaka province chairman who is now a UPND member.
And when reached for a comment, Mr. Banda denied any involvement in the planned future demonstrations by the UPND.
He told QFM in an interview that he was shocked that police visited his residence on Wednesday suspecting that he could be ferrying cadres to the UPND secretariat in readiness for the demonstration.
He wondered how he could be part of the demonstrations when he was attending a court session at the time of the demonstrations.
Mr Banda said some Police officers even went to court just to check on him without asking him any questions.
The Zambia Police were not available for immediate reaction.

Good! Keep a tight lid on trouble makers. No one should be allowed to take the law in their own hands. Police must beat them into submission. I do not understand why some people get so agitated over matters which are being handled by competent authorities to a point of starting silly demonstrations.
UPND members are digging their own graves by associating themselves with people like william banda. i don’t what has gone wrong with this party but i just can’t support most the things they are doing now!
With or with William Banda UPND must go ahead and demand Mtembo’s resigination. Fred AND nchito (two theives) MUST PAY 14BN. full stop
uli cikopo!
wanya tesha banoko impiya
Is William Banda not allowed to demonstrate? As long as he is not agitating for violence as the rioters in Mongu did (by calling for the killing of all non-Lozi people in W province) I dont see why he should be the focus of police attention unless we are being told that under pf no one is allowed to have, and demonstrate divergent views from the ruling party?
Dont be sully
Mr Sakeni is quoted somewhere as saying that the UPND is determined to make the country ungovernable, but this is my response to him that he should stop giving credit where it’s not due. Are you sure the UPND is capable of making this country ungovernable when they don’t have the numbers. Infact I would urge you to pay more attention to Nevers Mumba. He carries within him what we may consider a little genuine threats, others are just nuisance noise makers
correct!
Rubbish
UPND and HH, have made a huge mistake to accept this violent man to be their memberr. What do HH admire out of Banda a finished illitrate unless UPND is for violence.
governing zambia is tough man. you are always made to run in circles from the opposition. zambai an interesting country.
@4. Stop the lies you fool. There is no one who advocate for the so called killing of non lozis in western province. Can you mention any one non lozi whose life was threatened? Stop spreading lies and hatred. Stinking inbreed!
#8 Below is the submission given by the Cheke Cha Mbunda to the Commission of Enquiry on the Mongu riots on 26th and 27th of March.
‘wiii) In January 2011 during the run up to the Mongu Riots, we received disturbing
reports and fliers from Mongu, authored by a group of Barotseland Activists calling themselves ‘Linyungandambo”. In these fliers, they warned: “This serves to warn the following: Mbundas, Ma Luvales and other tribes that they should start preparing to leave Barotseland by 14th January, 2011 when we shall secede from Zambia. It has been observed that this period around when we have been fighting for this cause, they have not been supportive and we feel its high time they went back to Angola where they came from.
UPND is currently a regional and tribal party that is desperate to have some semblance of national identity and thought recruiting William Banda would give them a kick start, but his just bombed in their tribal faces.
Any serious political party would not embrace William Banda into its ranks give his insatiable appetite for political violence.
UPND will pay a huge price for their cheap and misguided political expedience as William Banda is only capable of organizing and delivering violence at expense of national appeal further alienating UPND.
Please discard William Banda forthwith.
William Banda is a Zambian citizen and has the right to demonstrate if he so wishes. The police must not waste their time on trivial issues when there are more serious matters they need to attend to. There is so much crime in the compounds where we need the police more than the monitoring of just one individual just for political expediency. In your own wisdom, do you think other Zambians cannot organise a demo if things are not going right? What sort of idiocy is this? The PF government is so jittery because of the numerous blanders so far made in the governance of the country. How can you have a president who continuously breaches the Constitution of the land with impunity! There is no way people are going to sit idle when their rights are being abused. We shall all rise and fight.
Interesting. Hope this man is not being used for malicious practices. He hasnt got a good record of being a man of peace; has he now? Read between my lines. I say no more. Speculate in your own mind what I’m trying to say and probe deeper. Hope my speculations are wrong. But gut feeling and intuition tells me I’m right.
So here are my questions for UPND.
UPND what are your objectives as a party? What are you trying to achieve as a party? Are you a party for the people? What are your motives? Is it for the benefit of the people?Or has this become personal? ( this last question is for all politicians )
Zambian has gone to the dogs now! William Banda has the right to demonstrate just as any Zambian has! What’s wrong for William Banda to demonstrate over the brutality of Zambia Police? Which Sata has imported from his friend the Dictator of Zimbabwe Mugabe! Zambia Police risks putting Zambia’s reputation as a democratic country at its worst! This will scare investors! Zambia Police especially Lusaka Police commissioner Katanga risk being referred to the International Criminal Court! All the eyes of the International Community are on Zambia now! Watching and intimidating William Banda won’t work but CONFIRM THE FEARS OF INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THAT Sata is persecuting political opponents using government security forces! What a shame!
umfwa iwe weecipuba! if you dare the police they will deal with you ruthlessly.
sata has nothing do with this !
Istill say that Z|ambians will regret the day they elected this government. It is just as disorganised as Chiluba’s governemtn. The common thing between the two: uneducated and their intelligence is doubtful. Just rabble rousers. 2014 will mark 50 years since Zambia’s independence. More than two thirds of the population were born after that. I think it is time we kicked out the undemocratic and poorly educated pre-independence generation.
you’ve no capacity to do that because people put it office !
and your party is just a regional one !
you’ll never rule!
The pathetic fools and their guard dogs have run out of ideas. They are now scared of their own shadows. Zambians will put your feet to the fire. Gov’t is not a holiday camp for your relatives and tribal folk! Work and stop stealing and maiming Zambians!
ALL OF YOU SUPPORTING THE POLICE ARE BEMBAS. WHY IS IT THAT YOU WANT TO LABEL OTHERS AS TRIBAL WHEN ACTUALLY YOU AS BEMBAS WOULD NEVER SUPPORT ANOTHER TRIBE. YOU ARE ALL *****S.
waba itole chikala
sO THAT IS WHY THEY HIRED TEKERE TO THEIR PARTY FOR THIS PURPOSE?
#8 Instead of insulting me and calling me an ‘inbreed’ – which I am not, I would suggest you educate yourself by spending some time reading the submission of the Cheke Cha Mbunda to the Commission of Enquiry on the Mongu riots. Just google ‘Cheke Cha Mbunda’, after you have read the submission, I expect it is YOU who will feel a bit of an inbreed for displaying your ignorance and failure to keep up with the pertinent issues currently affecting our beloved country. I trust that in the future you will be able to post your comments without resorting to insults as I expect better from you because judging from your previous posts you are not a typical pf dunderhead. Wishing you a good day and weekend.
@18. That is just nonsense. Those flyers were from the office of the president. It is very fun that the same people who were supposed to be killed by lozis ended up been incarcerated with their villains. Kamwengo, kanyanga and biemba were some of the people who were jailed. Weren’t these supposed to be the victims. And do people who want to go on a killing spree inform the police that they will be demonstrating? Was anyone jailed for the crime you are purporting? Were the 5 year olds who were shot by the police on a killing spree?
William Banda is no longer violent, why put him on the police spotlight, shame on you the police, stop acting like PF cadres, you are embarrassing the country.
MULI FIPUBA PA ZAMBIA SANA. ISN’T THIS CHAP SUPPOSED TO BE IN PRISON. YOU WHEN PEOPLE CALL FOR JUDICIAL REFORM THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. THERE ARE STILL THOUSAND OF MMD CADRES IN GOVT AND THE CIVIL SERVICE WHO ARE STILL SERVING MMD. PF WILL SOON LOSE IT IF THEY CAN’T UNDERSTAND EVEN STRAIGHT FORWARD THINGS SUCH AS THIS. POLICE SURVAILANCE ON THIS FUUL IS A SHEER WASTE OF TAX-PAYERS’ MONEY.
The cow dungs are out of their kraals to cry about their own decisions. You see now you mabisi eaters. You should have just remained in the pact with us, you would not have been whipped like you do to your skinny cows. Kekekekekekekek, aha aha aha……
#18 You are entitled to your opinion just as I am to mine without resorting to insults. I am however more inclined to believe the Cheke Cha Mbunda and other ethnic groups who felt threatened enough to the extent of barricading their villages and homesteads. What is surprising and what people like you ignore is the fact that if those people were not committed to ethnic cleansing, then why did they postpone the violence to another day so as not to be associated with ethnic cleansing? Why did they not distance themselves from the distribution of the fliers before that fateful day and why did they not demonstrate peacefully as is their right under the current constitution? You see we can have an argument without resorting to the pf style of insults and name calling.
I DID NOT SEE HH AND KAPITA. WHERE WERE THEY? YOU SEE YOU CADRES, THESE POLITICIANS ARE NOT RELIABLE, THEY WILL THROW YOU IN BATTLEFIELD WHY THEY ARE IN THEIR OFFICES/HOMES SIPPING TUJILIJILI WHILE YOU ARE ROTTING IN CELLS. WHY ARE YOU USED LIKE FIKOLOPO? MAKANI YABIJA BAMA.
#18 Please read the submission by the Cheke Cha Mbunda and you will see that the situation in W province is not as simple as you paint it which I hasten to add was the stance taken by Sata in orderto hoodwink some nationalist Lozis to vote for him and now they are paying the price!
Rt Hon Cheke Cha Mbunda
Speech to the Barotse National Council
26 & 27 March 2012
END of UPND, fo.ols like WB is in their party, HH has lost it. Wow Zambia is a true democratic country after all the nonsense that William did when in MMD.
waste if resources how do you put spotlight the entire police on a simple person like Banda? PF ypu are just trying to justify your UNIP + Mugabe style of leadership.Just use that manpower on something else like bring law and order in Chibolya compand.
Just lock him now
LUSAKA CATHOLIC archbishop Telesphore Mpundu says the Judiciary should be dissolved if it continues to resist reforms.
And Archbishop Mpundu has implored Zambians to keep checking on the PF government so that it doesn’t go to sleep.
Archbishop Mpundu said the Judiciary was not a sacred cow that should be left untouched when it made mistakes.
“If there’s nothing else that can be done, if there’s too much resistance from the judicial officers; they are finding every way of blocking what should be a smooth process of reform, then we have no option but to resort to this extreme measure for the good of this country, for the good of the people,” Archbishop Mpundu said in an interview yesterday.

@29 wena, I have asked you a simple question: mention one person who was tried and convicted of the rubbish you are claiming. The point is no one. That is just propaganda for gullible dumb heads like you. They also protested peacefully but your stupid police beat them up , maimed, shot and killed them. There is no one who was harmed by lozi protestors. No one! So shut up and go to hell with your genocidal intentions on lozis. The stu.pid flyers were from the same id.iots who produced the zero option flyers. So buzz off with your nonsense!
Nobody was prosecuted because in one of his populist moves, Sata released all the people who were going to stand trial. That was one of his first actions as president. Seems it hurts you to know that your people were intent on genocide as the Cheke Cha Mbunda and other ethnic groups have claimed. Your insults wont change the fact that some Lozi nationalists/extremists were intent on committing genocide and their hatred was such that they voted for Sata who in turn did a donchi kubeba and abbrogatted on all the promises he made get the vote of the gullible and hate filled Lozis such as yourself. Even your Litunga himself, came to visit RB and posed with him at state house as a way of telling the people of W province who to vote for but they did not listen.
William Banda’s political CV ni zeeee! If wishes were horses, PF would want to ride on William Banda.
*****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All you pf morons supporting this barbaric act have you ever thought of what may happen next time such a demo is planned for? You think those youths will allow to be brutallised again? Next time they will be prepared by arming themselves and I can gurantee you that will be the beginning of the end of your Ukwa!!! Lives will be lost not only of the demonstrators but of the police officers as well!
Now I understand that PF is full of cowards who are scared of even their own shadows. How can the entire police FORCE focus on one man? If indeed there are plans to cause trouble or whatever it is, it will not come from/through the obvious. Only dull poeple act like this. I didn’t know that PF is so scared of UPND until now, but why?
Wanzelu, unlike your name your obvious threat is not helpful at all! UPND in a country with so much economic malaise and poverty, they have choosen to play politics instead of pressurising the PF to start implementing job creating projects. For me this is what should be at the centre of every opposistion political party with a sense of agency. PF needs to redefine its approach to a lot of things in this country if UPND continues playing politics. It will not help UPND, nor the people of Zambia for UPND politics to take centre stage in the PF governance. HH & Syakalima, I request that you look beyond politicking to help the government start delivering to the masses. Not liking Sata has nothing to do with poor people in Shang’ombo, Nabwalya, Gwembe valley, sinazongwe, sesheke, senanga…!
Bob, how can PF, a ruling party with its presence all over the country be scared of a party from one province? Take some time and look at the composition of their executive.
yaba..ba pf nivipuba zoona..why waste time on that old man..?
# 31 Bob, Not the entire police service will be engaged in keeping a close eye on horrid violent William Banda. It is common practice in most civilised societies for police to watch violent risk elements! It would be imprudent of Zambia Police to arrest William on charges of hacking off peoples ‘bums’ as in the case of Chongwe in court today. This kind of politicking where a simple english term is misinterpreted to attract attention by a horde of UPND syconphants is nauseating. From elections of 2011, believe it or not most Zambians are simply not interested in politics and just want to see reforms in institutions of governance, a new constitution, job creation, job creation and job creation! When will UPND leadership and its horde of syncophants get this through their thick skulls?
dont waste time on TWB he is just a “chisense” in Atlantic ocean, just lock him up for his previous sins to 10 years kwasila!!!!
dull police. a demonstration is conducted by learned people. Unlearned people do not demonstrate but resort to riots. Remember the demo to lift the immunity of chiluba. it was done by literates. No wonder ZP fails to conduct any intelligent investigations.
The once invincible William Banda is now nothing but a scared old man!!!
sleek willy is at it again
Don’t allow William Banda to bring back the nonsense as he used to in the reign of MMD. Just fix him rightly. Why waste time on an individual infact a foreigner! It is only in Zambia where we tolerate such nonsense. Let him go and behave the same in the neighbouring country south across the Zambezi river see if he will get away with it!
Wiliam Banda should be careful. He has a case in court which I think will work on him badly. The UPND will not help him, he will die alone in prison. If I were him I would stop politics hence forh, but alas, since the vissionless party UPND has promised protection to him, Banda has closed his eyes and brain.
With with a criminal inclination must always be under the spotlight of the nation.
William, I like the picture above when you looked like a springbok in the middle of lions…..haha, You were so terrified then, but I guess you are a slow learner.
TEKERE must be caged or sent back to NYASALANDE period
