Local businessman offers to foot medical bills for a Chirundu cancer patient

A 39-year-old Chirundu cancer patient, Matthews Nambekwa, has been evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) for specialist treatment.

Mr. Nambekwa has a rare malignant cancer which is affecting his lower lip.

He was evacuated to UTH last evening from Mtendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu where he was admitted.

His evacuation was facilitated by a Lusaka Business man, Nikky Katunga, who has offered to pay all hospital bills and other requirements that will go towards the patient’s treatment.

Chirundu District Commissioner (DC), Maxwell Syamalimba, who witnessed the evacuation of the patient from Chirundu, thanked Mr. Katungu for heeding to the appeal to help the patient undergo specialist treatment.

Mr. Syamalimba observed that it was not easy for institutions and individuals alike to come to the aid of patients.

He also thanked the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and Muvi Television for airing the story for the attention of the public.

And Lusaka Businessman, Nikky Katungu, said he was prompted to assist Mr. Nambekwa after watching news on television about the later’s illness.

Mr. Katungu said his assistance is not however for publicity but part of the charity works which he has been doing for over 20 years.

He explained that charity is about putting smiles on people’s faces.

Meanwhile, Mtendere Mission Hospital Medical Officer, Dr. Eliza Faseli said Mr. Nambekwa was diagnosed with a cancer that is affecting his lower lip.

She stated that the disease is in its advanced stage and hoped for the best treatment for him.

Mr. Nambekwa’s condition started in 2007 and has now affected his lips and neck causing deep wounds in the throat, which has made difficult for him to swallow certain foods.

Thanks my brother for the help , however,my advice goes to all our Medical personnel in the country.Please make sure others know the condition of your patients where you feel you can’t help further.Don’t feel shy ..it will help save lives quickly. You are only human,let others try what they know as well.After all you don’t know everything.
