The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Lavushimanda District, Muchinga Province, has appealed to unregistered voters to take advantage of the 15-day extension of the voter registration exercise.
Lavushimanda District Assistant Registration Officer (ARO) Supervisor, Mushimba Phiri, said in an interview with the media that the extension will allow more residents to be captured, especially those who missed the earlier phases.
“The extension is going to work in our favor because those who were not captured in the first phases will be captured during the fifteen-day period,” he said.
Mr Phiri noted that Lavushimanda being a rural district, some residents missed the initial registration because they were engaged in other activities such as caterpillar harvesting.
“A number of community members were not present because they were in the fields to catch caterpillars,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Lavushimanda District Voter Education Committee (DVEC) Chairperson, Osward Bwalya, commended the efforts of Voter Education Facilitators (VEFs), describing the voter education as having been done successfully across the district.
“Voter education has been a success because we have been able to reach everyone, including hard-to-reach areas like Kamwendo and Lumbatwa,” Reverend Bwalya said.
And ECZ trainer, Charles Sota, urged all eligible citizens to register, emphasizing that voting is both a right and a civic responsibility.
“We are calling on all those who have not yet registered to come through because this is your right and responsibility,” he said.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has extended the 2025 mass voter registration period from November 12 to November 26, 2025.
Because of the lies of 2021, most people have lost interest in voting, but they must still register and do the needful. If anybody comes to campaign in the next election, don’t allow them to say I will reduce the price of mealie meal, fertiliser, fuel and other things, ask them how. they would do it.
