One Dead, Two Injured in Choma Motorbike Crash

One person has died while two others sustained serious injuries following a collision involving two motorbikes in Choma, Southern Province.

The accident occurred yesterday around 08:30 hours in the Madabaza area along the Namwala Road, about 102 kilometres south of Choma.

Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Hostern Habila, aged 52, of Sichoba Village in Chief Macha. Habila was riding one of the motorbikes at the time of the accident.

Mr. Namalongo also identified the injured as Godfrey Munkombwe, aged 53, who was Habila’s passenger, and Justine Muchindu, the rider of the second motorbike.

He explained that the accident occurred when Muchindu failed to keep to his proper lane and collided with Habila’s motorbike.

As a result of the impact, Habila sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, while the two injured victims were rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention.

Police have since urged motorists and motorbike riders to observe road safety regulations, including keeping to their designated lanes, in order to prevent such accidents.

  1. Someone riding a motorcycle should not use an umbrella.
    What are those umbrellas for?

  2. “Police have since urged motorists and motorbike riders to observe road safety regulations” How can someone observe regulations that they are ignorant about because these riders are not trained and are not required to obtain a licence. It is a recipe for disaster and more is to come as motorcycles proliferate on the roads
