Police in Kasama District, Northern Province, are investigating the sudden and unnatural death of a 38-year-old man of Chisanga Village in Senior Chief Mwamba’s chiefdom.
The deceased, identified as Anthony Mushili, was found unresponsive along a village road in the early hours of April 26, 2026.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Simunji Mulonda confirmed the incident saying Mushili had been drinking Kachasu, a locally brewed illicit alcoholic substance, with his younger brother the previous evening.
Mr Mulonda disclosed that the deceased was last seen around 20:00 hours on April 25, leaving a drinking place in an intoxicated state while carrying a bottle of Kachasu.
“At about 05:00 hours the following morning, members of the public found him lying unresponsive along the road with a bottle of the suspected brew besides him,” Mr Mulonda stated.
He added that police officers who visited the scene reported no visible injuries on the body, and no foul play is suspected.
“The body has since been deposited at Kasama General Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits burial, a medical examination may be conducted to establish the exact cause of death,” Northern Province Police Commanding Officer further disclosed.
Mr Mulonda cautioned the public against consuming illicit brews such as Kachasu, warning of their serious health risks.
“We urge members of the public to desist from consuming these dangerous substances. Investigations into the matter remain ongoing,” he said.

Wrong headline. He wasn’t mysterious. As far as I can read he is Mushili and his abode is Chisanga village. People know him and his brother.
