President Hichilema praises people of Western Province

President Hakainde Hichilema has lauded the people of Western Province for their unwavering support to the United Party for National Development (UPND) during the years it served in opposition.

Mr Hichilema said the people of Western Province remained loyal and steadfast, standing with the UPND for over 23 years despite the challenges of being in opposition.

He noted that their commitment played a significant role in strengthening democracy in the country.

The President stated that as a result of their support and trust in visionary leadership, Western Province is now witnessing unprecedented infrastructure development.

Mr Hichilema explained that government is prioritising key projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of the people and enhancing economic growth in the region.

He further disclosed that government will soon embark on the upgrading of the Kalabo-Sikongo Road, a project expected to boost trade between Zambia and Angola and improve connectivity within the province.

He added that improved road infrastructure will also ease the movement of goods and services, thereby opening up economic opportunities for local communities.

He cited the construction of the Lwanginga Bridge as one of the milestone projects which the UPND government undertook immediately after forming government.

The President described the bridge project it as a symbol of government’s commitment to developing Western Province.

The Head of State further revealed that government has lined up several developmental programmes for the province, including investments in health, education, and agriculture sectors, aimed at uplifting the living standards of the people.

Mr Hichilema has since called on the people of Western Province to continue supporting his leadership by voting for him in the forthcoming August 13, 2026 general elections.

He emphasised that continued support will enable government to complete ongoing projects and implement more development initiatives across the province.

The President was speaking during a community engagement meeting held in Kalabo district, where he reiterated government’s commitment to inclusive development and national unity.

  1. So the whole campaign is provincial? The other provinces weren’t as loyal as other provinces? So how does sticking to one party promote democracy?
