MMD president Nevers Mumba has said that he has not abandoned the church as alleged by President Micheal Sata during a campaign rally in Mufumbwe over the weekend.
Speaking at the party’s final campaign rally to drum up support for MMD candidate in the Mufumbwe Parliamentary by-election, Stafford Mulusa, in Mufumbwe yesterday, Dr Mumba said that he will for the second time march to State House after he concludes his business in Mufumbwe district to see President Michael Sata over the head of state’s alleged statement that he embezzled church funds.
The MMD leader said he wants to meet President Sata so that he could explain in detail which money he (Dr Mumba) stole from the church.
Commenting on allegations that he abandoned his church to pursue his selfish interest, Dr Mumba revealed that he is still the leader of his church which now has 52 branches.
Over the weekend President Sata cautioned the people against listening to people like the MMD President Dr Nevers Mumba whose characters are questionable.
He said that Dr Mumba started a church saying he would be a Tele-evangelist , but did not carry on the important job of serving the lost souls.
“After people donated money, he pocked the money and killed the church”, the president said.
President Sata said Dr Mumba again formed a church and preached under the theme,” Zambia Shall will be Saved” which he also abandoned for a job to satisfy himself.
Meanwhile, Dr Mumba said that he is not bitter but upset with the way the PF is running the affairs of the country.
Dr Mumba observed that it is sad that when people remind the PF of the promises they made to the Zambia people prior to the 2011 general elections, they allegedly brand such people as being bitter.
He said he is upset because the MMD government made so much progress in bring development about development in the country but the PF government as put the country on “Pause’.
The MMD leader charged that the country is poised for serious economic challenges ahead of the alleged under-performance on the part of the PF government.
He further charged that government poor handling of the agricultural sector risks dragging the country in a serious food crisis.
Dr Mumba accused the government of neglecting farmers, saying fertilizer has not yet been delivered to the farmers despite the rainy season having already started.
Dr Mumba said that the people of North Western Province have no reason to vote for the PF party because it has shown no regard for the people of that area.
He said for the first time since independence North Western Province has no representative in the Cabinet.
Dr Mumba said the people of Mufumbwe should, therefore, vote for the MMD candidate in the Mufumbwe by- election, Stafford Mulusa, whom he claimed will effectively represent them in parliament.
Speaking at the same rally, MMD Chairman for Finance and Economic Affairs, Situmbeko Musokotwane, alleged that when the MMD left office after the 2012 general elections, it left behind US $2.6 billion in the treasury, but the PF government has reduced the amount to US $2.3billion.
Dr Musokotwane said the people of Zambia, beginning with the people of North Western Province, should bury the PF government if development is to be achieved in the country.
And Former Kawambwa MMD MP, Elizabeth Mulobeka, said it is not true that opposition MPs cannot bring development in their areas, saying such allegations are only meant to sway people from voting for their preferred candidate.
Meanwhile the MMD candidate, Stafford Mr Mulusa, said the people of Mufumbwe have already lost one year of development under the mandate of the former MP and former Local Government Deputy Minster, Stephen Mausmba.

Musokotwane is abit misleading but you are very wrong.The $2.6b is forex reserves in central bank (not treasury) which is used for import purposes.You can’t use these funds for project financing otherwise you’ll never have imported fuel or drugs.
