Zone 6 Youth Games: Zambia Set For Boxing Medals

Hosts Zambia is guaranteed five medals in boxing at the ongoing Zone 6 Youth Games in Lusaka after five out of its seven boxers qualified for Tuesday afternoon’s semifinals.

However, bantamweight Obedy Mutapa and Mbachi Kaonga both failed to advance.

Mutapa’s hopes were dashed after he was disqualified in his second fight on Sunday for a low blow on Swaziland’s lone representative in the semifinals Khulenkani Shiba to bow out from his three round robin bouts with one win plus a defeat.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Kanyanta’s team will have one boxer vying for honours in five of the seven fight division for a place in Wednesday’s finals at Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

In the light flyweight, Caristo Bwalya will face Keabata Motsebe of Botswana.

Emmanuel Kabwe has an interesting clash against African Sikho Nqothile in a flyweight bout.

Nqothile comes into the penultimate stage with a 100 per cent record from the round robin stage that ended on Monday at Mulungushi while his Zambian opponent has two wins and a loss.

Lightweight Lawrence Mukuta will fight Abel Mikasiu of Namibia while in the light welterweight division, lightweight Charles Lumbwe will battle Mathule Augusto of Mozambique.

Welterweight Ben Sakutamba faces-off against boxer Tseisa Litheo of Lesotho.

And all losing semifinalist are guaranteed Bronze medals.

  1. Zambians shouldn’t fight, I don’t like discouraging young people, but generally boxing is for fast paced-thinking people.
    Zambians are slow:
    – look at football… so sloppy.
    – Dancing- My goodness, damn boring.
    – Singing… haaa shiii. whats that?
    – walking, basensela ilyo kawa.
    – Have you ever heard a Zambian making a speech or presentation? listen to yourself.
So Zambian are chess, golf, football too, need patience to score, like Spain.

    • did you read the story or you just rushed to comment? is esther phiri not Zambia who’s world Champion?

    • Its normal for a country to have fools like u but its not normal for fools like bring your foolishness to everyone’s attention. U would have been wise if u stayed shut than revealing your shallow mindedness in public u damn twit. Tom-fool

  2. Was watching Zambia vs RSA yesterday. I felt pity for the ball boys who had no protective clothing when the rains started. did nt the organising committe factor in planning such knowing very well that the games would take place during the rainy season? surely something can be done for those ball boys?
