Kalaba, Sunzu Leave Accra Laughing to The Bank

Rainford Kalaba and Stopilla Sunzu did not leave the 2012 CAF awards gala in Accra last Thursday empty handed but are laughing all the way back to the bank on Christmas.

The Zambian duo lost out the 2012 African based best player award to Egyptian Mohammed Aboutreika but got some cool cash for getting nominated.

Kalaba took home US$ 10,000 while Sunzu who suffered the shock of returning the award after a awards presenter John Barnes blunder, was given US$ 5000.

“Kalaba was even counting the cash..cool Christmas money for the young man,” a source familiar with the development said.

Meanwhile, Aboutreika took home US$15,000 for his win to cap two successive disappointing attempts by Egypt to qualify for the 2012 and 2013 Africa Cup finals.

  1. That’s not enough for a football player. CAF is a disgrace!! They make billions and just give out a bit. Look at the last AFCON, they made a lot of million dollars but the winner just got  $1.5m. Joke.

  2. Mongu rice, you are right and smart. Nifikabolalafye efyo ifima West Africans. They are mad. Nomba we are also coming up with force never seen before, banya.

  3. ba lusaka times those are settings now…laughing to the bank surely thats approximately a mere 50 Milla and approx 25 Milla a pop…i think CAF is stingy mwe..well im sure they are grateful…but laughing to the bank i think not!!

  4. So is it John Barnes blunder to print his name on the said  award as well? CAF and FIFA are corrupt bodies just like our FAZ its really shocking that people in Zambia are even shocked; as for the prize money it may be enough to you and me but its casino money to an International footballer…though a good sum just for being nominated.

  5. These players and the coach should have stayed at home as i said at the start of the week to focus on today’s game which we LOST but I was criticised for this again by blind fans.

  6. THAT’S JUST A SMALL % OF THE CAF OFFICIALS BR!BE LOOT. DON’T WORRY GUYS THAT’S AFRICA FOR AND WESTERN AFRICA FOR THAT MATTER. THEY THOUGHT NSUNZU SOUNDED EGYPTIAN.

  7. BA LT NAIMWE DOES $10,000 SOUNDS TO BIG FOR YOU. HOW CAN THEY LAUGH THEY HAVE BEEN ROBBED BY FELLOW AFRICANS.

  8. What did this Egyptian fella do when his national team was failing to qualiffy for AFCON for the second time in a row? CAF needs a President from Southern Africa cos its the most democratic region in Africa. We are more used to democracy than the IssA Hayatous

  9. Airticket, 5 star hotel room, free food + ka beer, then $$$$, whatever amount = 110 % Christmas. Zambians too much jealous.

  10. Let me get this straight Kalaba who came third got more money than Sunzu who was second?

  11. how can u count money when its in check form? y boza so? n we got crooked by our own brothaz, africans..being so unafrican..haters

  12. Grammar please ba LT. The english idiom is “laughing all the way to the bank” NOT laughing to the bank.

  13. Why would they laugh all the way to the bank when they were entitled to the cash for being nominated? Unless I have misunderstood that CAF made a mistake.

  14. @16 (Theoretician). Thanks for noticing and straightening them out. Besides, they won the cash, so how does this laughing all the way to the bank even become relevant?
