Lusaka City Mayor Daniel Chisenga says the local council is now back on its feet after being crippled by the former ruling MMD government.
The Mayor who expressed happiness at the new K 282 billion, 2013 budget for Lusaka City Council said the local council desires to see cheerful faces on every resident as they now have funds to meet their needs.
Mr Chisenga told ZANIS in an interview yesterday that the increase in the budget has been triggered by governments increased fund to the council.
He said the local council wishes to put its money on tangible projects which will translate into development for the local people, adding that the council will this year employ about 350 permanent workers to facilitate for the low man power that it has been faced with over the years.
He said the local community is waiting to see benefits from the Patriotic Front government by ensuring that they are provided with good roads, road signs, and small shelters in community markets, proper drainages and good sanitation among other services.
Mr Chisenga said the council has put aside K 2.6 billion for capital projects equipments to address the issue of transport.
The Mayor also said the local council has in the past been faced with difficulties in carrying out its duties due to insufficient transport to reach its people.
He said the council has planned to purchase utility vehicles that will be used in monitoring of infrastructure in the city and other illegal developments in the city.
Mr Chisenga also disclosed that the council will this year buy a fire engine to supplement the current machinery adding that the local authority intends to continue buying fire engines from every yearly budget.
He explained that the intention of the council to continue buying fire engines is to ensure that every constituency has a fire fighting engine that could attend to any emergencies.
The Mayor has however asked government to help the local council clear out the retirees’ debt which currently stand at K19 billion.
Mr Chisenga stated that the debt has made it impossible for the local council to plan and retiree some more people for fear of subjecting its people to un told misery of pro-longed waiting for their money.
ZANIS
Empty PF promises and gibberish. Very familiar. Vikopo will appreciate. Lusaka City Council has never been under MMD. PF always won. Namizankoni vipuba vanu. Unless you don’t know that council ni ma counselors.
You must be mistaken if you thought so. I have a close friend working in a managerial position at Lusaka City council, trueth be told, all councils in the country were under the thumb of the ministry of local govenment. The ministry had an office that made major decissins for concils, transfered its employees when ever and where ever. Get your facts traight before making a comment please, Muletusebanya!
What the hell are you saying MMD Crippled it, hasn’t the council been under the PF for the past 5 or so years? Just be honest, you are full of crap. I as a motorist pay no less than K50 a month in parking levy, bus drivers pay K20 per day and have been doing so for the past 5 years and probably longer. Marketeers pay K1.5 every single day, when you total all these figures, including rates, billboards and what have you, the council probably generates as much money as Zesco in Lusaka! Now what does the central government have to do with your inabbilities to work with the resources you have at hand. Stop pointing fingers and do your jobs!!
Daniel Chisenga waba Ilufyono Chi-color chobe. LCC has always been under Poor Fools PF councilors. Why are you saying MMD cripled it? Do you live Zambia iwe we Mbushi?
Great job Mayor. You’ve succeeded in making Lusaka the dirtiest capital in Southern Africa after the PF Muchinga Taliban came into power.
We need to move away from this blame game as Zambians are now losing patience to the so many promises made by Serpent Cobra Ukwa Sata CNP. PF has been in power for over a year and they have nothing to show apart from blaming MMD. Much as they talk evil of MMD it left a sound reserve which they are excited of depleting. MMD left a sound economy and that will no be removed from them. Let us mature from the cheap politics by being scientific and objective. That is why i like studying because professors will tell you that there is nothing you are gpoing to bring to the body of knowledge because all what you will write was researched on by other but you marely contributing to it. So what genuine political change has PF brouight apart from the same type of mediocrity leadership. Foolish!
How can you fail to raise a mere K19 Billion to see off pensioners ….these politicians are used to making such statements in front of an ignorant press and uniformed electorate!
ok
We need technocrats for this country, how can a whole mayor start accusing MMD of snuffing development of the city? What are his plans for development of the city? Who has he employed to plan and implement? How is he going to get funds to sustain this development? What is he doing about the rubbish in markets, these are the things he ought to talk about, not fonko fonko MMD. Y’all need to watch Discovery channel to see how american technocrats built New york city. Bwana Mayor tamutamba TV?
The mayor has seen future in LCC and he has all the information for him to say what he has said,we outsiders can only judge him when nothing happens.
Iwe what are you talking about? LCC has for a long time been under the controlmofbthe opposition from way back in 2001. Facts here below:
2002..Mayor J Kabungo..Fdd
2004..Mayor L Mkandawile ..Fdd
2005.. Mayor Mike Mposha..Fdd
2007..Mayor Susan Nakazwe..PF
2007..S Chilatu..PF
2008..Chikwelete..PF
2010..Todate chisenga(yourself)
So what are u talking about. Please learn from other Mayors like Mposha, PK Kangwa and others, each time they spoke it was non political. Maybe this is why these two have prospered in other posting like Diplomats and DMMU
Now that LCC has that money: demolish all illegal structures left by MMD, especially in Ibex Hill and Lusaka West; open up more land for allocation; employ more city and country planners (town planners) to improve the appearance of most compounds; allow the Town Planning Dept at LCC inspect all structures being constructed; employ more council police to deal with street vendors; and finally enagage more cleaning and garbage collection firms. If Lusaka Water & Sewerage is still under LCC control, improve water articulation in Lusaka. The USA government recently gave LCC US $ 500million for that. Let there be 24/7 safe, clean, clorinated piped water to all households in Lusaka!
Mr Mayor, for a city like Lusaka – in its current state, what does K 282 billion do?
Iam a follower of internet one day i will discover each bloggers name it is not imposible and i will spill the beans
Very foolish bati, istad of talking about the issue at hand all you can think about is whistle blowing? I doubt you are a citizen of Lusaka you bloody so-n-so, do you know how shameful it is to have to drive through pools of water sometimes splashing innocent pedestrians simply the council has never bothered to construct a meaningful drainage system. walking at night is a taboo because we have no street lights, give me your name and address so I can come tell this to you in person! SHA!
You are a lier, ulefwaya uletinya abantu why haven’t you done so? Some of us are expert in IT than you think. And following Internet does not make you a computer guru, Internet is just the largest worldwide library.
Iwe Mumbwe!!!
Imwe ba ZANIS What does This sentence mean? Mr Chisenga told ZANIS in an interview yesterday that the increase in the budget has been triggered by governments increased fund to the council.
#nshilimubemba, who cares whether you find our names or not. We are free agents. This mayor is a joker. LCC has always been under the control of PF councillors and not MMD. PF has made LCC more filthy. PF councillors have stollen from LCC and that is reason why services have been poor.
Am Very disappointed with the council for they don’t think especially kapatas who is an empty tin. when it comes to cleaning our streets and putting up bins its even worst. a bin might be put but no emptying it. someone claims to be cleaning the drainage and the soil is heaped just aside, when rain comes the dirty is back. do we have a lot of money to be playing around with government resources like that. to those that use the great east road, especially from tank to hybrid, look at a very nice walking way which has been soiled just like that. the dull fellows in blues are even busy doing those stupid works of sailing up the walking way, thinking there cleaning the drainage. will Zambia ever develop sure. do we need someone from south Africa sure like what happened on that chi gate
at…
instead of talking crap we should direct our minds to the solution
