Ndola City Council has received K2.2 billion for service delivery through drainage clearance and street lighting in the city.

Ndola City Council Public Relations Manager Roy Kuseka said this in a Press Statement made available to ZANIS in Ndola yesterday.

Mr Kuseka explained that government released a total of K2.2 billion through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing adding that K1 billion has gone towards rehabilitation and installation of street lighting infrastructure in the city while K1.2 is for drainage clearance and engagement of labour.

The Public Relations Manager further revealed that the completion period for the exercise is 90 days and that the council has since commenced works in the constituencies where drains prone to flooding have been identified.

Mr Kuseka explained that in the central business district, some roads such as President Avenue have been lit except in sections that require pole replacements while works are ongoing in some roads.

He said the exercise will not only end with streets in town but that roads in Lubuto and Chifubu are also top on the agenda.

He said other roads earmarked for attention are Arusha, Vitanda, Shinde, Kabelenga and Lowenthal roads.

Meanwhile Mr Kuseka confirmed that the K69 billion National Roads Fund Agency funded 20.9 km rehabilitation programme in Ndola has commenced following the handover formalities that were done by Ministry of Local Government and Housing, the project consultants, Bicon Limited and the contractor Copperfields Mining Limited.

He added that the contractor has commenced detail design works and mobilization.

In Chifubu constituency the roads that will be worked on are Kanu, Chilyamitondo and Luapula.

  1. i am confused here ba lusaka times. The kwacha has been rebased. Can you state clearly if its rebased or not? Three weeks down the line we cant quote correctly you are confusing us because 2 billion rebased is a huge sum of money.

  2. Street lighting in Ndola, i have personally not seen it. Only Airtel maintaining street lights on president avenue not the Council. As for road works i hope that will work according to the plan coz the said roads are in a bad state. Next time include ZIT crescent leading to my house.

  3. Iam suprised to read of the roads to be worked on noting that chipulukusu is not mentioned when the works started sometime back only to be stopped by the pf government and now it is worse than it used to be.

Can some one from the so called council tell us the way forward on the chipulukusu road please.

  4. The all Northrise Area roads are very bad, why are they mentioning roads which have been worked on already? Government should look out for thieves in Ndola City Council who are busy flashing taxpayers money to thier concubines and opeing bars in the city. Start with NORTHRISE Township first!

  5. Lusaka Times you are confusing us. Can you tell us whether it’s rebased or not – 3 weeks down the road and you still can’t use the new currency.

  6. Three quarters of the funds will be stolen by the entrusted officers. Outcome? -poor work and back to square one-typical pa Zed!!
