The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has commenced legal action against Justice Winter Kabimba over his allegations that the opposition party is behind the killing of Western Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta’s houseboy, Johan Lyakoka.

Justice Minister Winter Kabimba is quoted in today’s edition of the post newspapers alleging that the UPND is behind the killing of Johan, but Southern province police commissioner Charity Katanga has disclosed that results of a postmortem carried out show that Johan was killed in a road traffic accident.

UPND Livingstone by-election campaign manager Garry Nkombo says the UPND will pursue Mr. Kabimba through the legal channels on the matter.

Mr. Nkombo told a media briefing in Lusaka this morning that his party is also writing to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) on the breach of the electoral code conduct by Mr. Kabimba and Mr. Mwaliteta, as PF campaign manager for Livingstone, for issuing inflammatory remarks contrary to the conduct.

He has also appealed to President Michael Sata to discipline Mr. Kabimba stating that he is not only a threat to himself, but to the party and the country as a whole.

The body of Lyakoka, aged 19, was found lying in the early hours of Saturday on the tarmac along the Livingstone-Lusaka road opposite Crossroad Lodge a few meters away from where the deceased and his colleagues were sleeping.

After the postmortem yesterday, the body of Mr Lyakoka was taken to Sioma District in Western Province for burial.

PF Member Lawrence Nyambe claimed that the United Party for National Development (UPND) had gone too far with its ‘mapatizya formula’ in that an innocent life had been lost but UPND campaign manager for the Livingstone by-election Gary Nkombo refuted the murder allegations. In an interview outside Batoka Hospital mortunary yesterday, Mr Nyambe said everything points to the fact that Mr Lyakoka was not killed by ordinary criminals but by political opponents using the UPND’s ‘mapatizya formula’.

“The best way to mourn this young man is that we are going to make sure that we win the February 28 Livingstone by-election,” he said. The deceased did not have a shirt and shoes on when his body was picked by the police.

    • Everything was fabricated, first Mwaliteta said it was his brother-in-law (wife must sue him too), Kabimba said it was nephew, now we hear it was a Kaboyi.
Anyway we said it that it was a hit-run and not panga.
Lets hope Ba Sata had a reflection on Injustice minister, when he went to Utopia.

    • You r exposing your hypocrisy here, your HH is facing courts because of the same alarming statements and the watchdog is busy crying and insulting

    • You included Dojo Do, you said nasty things on our UPND. The only sensible person of the week is Garry Gondo. Yes your Kabimba’s creep mouth should be sued, lets see what Mutembo Nchito will do with the case.

    • Why on earth will the Minister Of Justice put himself in awkward situation like this one. He is prejudicial, cadre like, alarmist, and foolish.

    • 2.1 You seem to have a chicken’s heart…i am neither for UPND nor PF or even worse off MMD…but i am my fellow learned human being for Zambia! Your leader talked about arms from Sudan with very shallow judgement and i supported the move by PF to sue him…in the same vein i support UPND to sue Ba Winter…in the name of democracy and accountability!

    • Ok in that case Dojo Do I can respect your neutral judgement, with your education in whatever.
However neutral people to me means they can’t make difference between hell & heaven, people who think like you, can’t even understand if they are men or women. You need to be a MAN and decide which party you side, and you insult my heart instead of my balls. Coward webo!

    • 2.4 You are entitled to your opinions…
I have made my decision…am for Zambia. Its the same political leaders who have mutated from UNIP to MMD to PF or UPND…i speak plainly when i say over 85% of us Zambians were MMD aligned at one time in life…whatever was done to the land, we still have a bit of Zambia remaining…there is still hope. However, i hope you have noticed the level of immaturity in Zedian politics…a democracy with dictators, with time the rule of law will come to Zambia-then i will surely below to a political party but not just yet…coward, i dont think so…

    • Dojo Do,
You are a cool person who doesn’t use abusive language nomatter how provoked. You use REASON and not EMOTION; and, to me, that is what makes you a man…

  1. The boy was probably drunk and wondered on to the road and got hit by a car. Further investigations would review that this boy was drinking campaign Chibuku.

Kabimba is careless with his mouth and he has become very big headed, he thinks that PF will rule forever.

  2. “The best way to mourn this young man is to make sure we win” Ba pf, what do u mean here? Tell us may be you sacrifaced the younman. Stop your usual useless acusations of Upnd.

    • Cheelo, whatever you call yourself, you are an idiot. Just come out who you a Pathetic Faillure family tree taxpayers money eat. Your thinking is pathetic & useless. Its not whether Upnd will win the case but that does Kabimba have the trueth for the allegation! One term pf!

  3. you never know he could have been by these same pipo who are busy pointing fingers at other pipo . those of you who have done history would agree with me that thats how Hitler use to do. he would kill prisoners and make them wear army uniforms and blame his perceived enermies Police need to investigate this or else blood of the boy will haunt them or the killers. i rest my case

  4. Ba pf you are used to kill your cadres during by-elections, in Mufumbwe you killed & acused Upnd, now in L/stone you have killed & have accused Upnd. I wonder why your heads are that doom that when you need to take responsibility you like blaming others for your actions & failures.

  5. you never know he could have been killedby these same pipo who are busy pointing fingers at other pipo . those of you who have done history would agree with me t thats whatHitler use to do. he would kill prisoners and make them wear army uniforms and blame his perceived enermies Police need to investigate this or else blood of the boy will haunt them or the killers. i rest my case..

  6. I dont understand this. The man in question is aid to be a house. As a far as I remember Mr Mwaliteta has been transfered to Mungu and even if he is still in livingstone, how can he be killed by UPND. Is he also a cadre camped together with PF cadres. And if they are camped why camping. This means that they have been ferried from somewhere not so. And this what is causing political tensions. Let the political players learn to truthfull about these issues otherwise we headed for a big problem if these things are not stopped.

    • You are Right, If they were for sure camped, where did they come from. Something is fishie here. How did Mwaliteta come to know about this Camp, to me he is the Comp manager. He knows where and when these caders came to this camp. Please ask him to abolish this camp to avoid other lifes to lost.

  7. Time will tell. Who knew that one day MMD will one day be a cry baby??? Always going to court, de registered………………….

  8. Are these suspects once arrested going to get a fair trial. If the Justice minister himself, a custodian of the law has already judged, where is fairness here? After the murder, “the police warns UPND against the Mapatizya formula.” Where’s professionalism here ZP?

  9. ZAMBIA POLICE, YOUR WORK HAS BEING MADE EASY FOR YOU. CAN YOU SUMMON MR KABIMBA AND GROUP TO POINT AT THE PEOPLE WHO DID THIS SINCE. ITS LIKE THEY HAVE EVIDENCE AND WITNESSED THE MURDER OF THIS YOUNG MAN.

  10. When I was growing up in the 70s, there was a boxer named”king blow top Mwanza”. Despite this impressive remarkable name, he never won a single fight. So he was famously coined: “the king who never won a crown”. Sounds familiar, huh? “Justice minister Kabimba, the lawyer who never won a case!

  11. If anyone sees a car with a dent and a pair of shoes and a bloody shirt dangling underneath, please call 911 !

  12. This is so cheap. How do you play politics at a time like this? Can’t we learn from countries that set aside politics to look at tragedy with a human eye and let law enforcement agents take over the process? This is unbelievable actually. My the young man’s soul rest in peace.

  13. I am from Eastern Angola near the border with Western province. Liakoka is a common Angolan name. Unless the PF campaign chief for L/stone is married to an Angolan wife, it would explain why the relationship has morphed from in-law to houseboy. My sense is that the boy was ferried from western province (or Angola?) to L/stone. Whether he was murdered or killed by a passing car, it appears that some politicians are eager to smear his blood on their opponents for political gain (normal people would not shed tears in public for a houseboy you have known for only a short time (he is only 19)). Why not let police investigate fully and the law can then take its course.

  14. UPND Proudly said that thy would use the mapatizya formular, they were critised and Con Mweetwa tried to defend the statement. it might be some other people bt UPND are linked to that coz of thier caressness. they should also try to be quiet nt makings useless statements.

  15. jast check the posts of these people always threats and threats when they actually spoke on national tv that they will use the mapatizya formula, now they run to court for what? Own up and agree that violence is in your blood.

    • Didn’t you see your relatives in Kabwata carrying all manner of weaponry? Honestly you Pathetic Failures live in a parallel universe!

  16. Mapatizya formula prevented rigging elections by then mmd but no one was killed!pf’s empty headed jst destroying this country by hatrade and lies, contemptuous leadership.

  17. You Zambian Watchdog bloggers take your idiocy back to your useless site. This is Lusaka Times the respectable site with balanced reporting. And tell the editor of your feaces watchdog that he or she is a numbskull whose IQ befits an imbecile.

  18. hear all, hear all, what have we become as a people? what have we been reduced to or is it, reduced ourselves to? once upon a time, we stood as a beacon of light, the envy of many nations in africa , but alas, we have resorted to barbarism as the only way to resolve our differences, shame on all of us.
here we have a young man life snatched away – whatever the cause – this should make all of us sad, UPND, PF MMD – whatever your affiliation, it is unacceptable to poke fun at the loss, houseboy, nephew, etc what difference does it make. it behooves anyone to search for the truth – zambians, lets stand tall as ONE – particularly for all who are participants of this blog – above all else we are human beings and should learn to care for one onother – when politicians err, – call them out for t

    • Telling the truth matters, and obviously the PF politicians are not telling the truth. If you are going to feel sad about the death of a complete stranger, you are a fool, you need psychiatric help. People are dying everywhere every minute of day, you cannot be sad about each one. I can empathize with their survivors but i am not going to be sad every time I hear about death.

  19. Charles Masambo used the same method to sacrifise and appease his gods to win the election. It wont surprise me for the PF to use the same method to win the L/stone seat.

  20. The police should look into the issue seriously as such accusations between political parties has got the potential fuel violence especially during this time of by elections in the two constituencies.

  21. The young man could have been thrown into a moving vehicle driven by William Banda in the company of G.Nkombo that fateful night.

  22. Kaunda had affiliations from northern province for he was born there though his parents were malawian. In 1964 our economy was better than Malaysia, we started well, but by 1991 when he was fired by his employers, the country was literally bankrupt. In came FTJ, strong affiliations from Bemba land though his father is said to have been congolese, we started well, lots of international good will until his penchant taste for silk ties, dozens of bizarre high heeled shoes caught up with him, the economy nose dived once again. Levy came in, none Bemba, within 7 years, Zambians stood tall once again, the wealthy of the nation became to trickle down to ordinary people and the middle class re appeared. RB, within 3 years all hell broke loose! Sata, Northerner! In certain government and quasi…
