Commuters and drivers at Lusaka’s kulima Tower bus station have bemoaned the poor sanitation at the recently constructed station.
They blamed the council for failure to collect the garbage.
And Lusaka City Council Public Relations Officer Henry Kapata has also admitted that the situation at the station is pathetic.
Below is the clip from Muvi TV
LT, I thinking this issue of scraping the reply `handle` is not fair. i think what should be done is that latest comments should always come on top as the older comments go to the bottom just like BBC, yahoo mail and guadian , etc. lets move with time than banning things and making the site boring. Mind you, you put the comment handle so that people react and engage in the topic,, so please reconsider you ban!
ndobo is right. ba LT reconsider your action ASAP otherwise all posts without replies or questions have now become a bore.
as for our city council of lusaka, honestly what kind of ‘fathers’ are you that can expose their children to such sanitation?
or maybe you also need investors on that score as this investor thing has become part of our national anthem.
atase!!
Privatise GRZ period.
Ba Kapata give us contracts to collect the garbage….more money in our pockets yama. you mean Lusaka a big city has only one compactor. that skip does not need a compactor, you pull it onto the lorry and that’s about it. why should i be collecting garbage here in the UK, i can be a boss in zed ka!!! one day i will be president of my country, support me.
#1 Dobo, good point. I thought about it, but didn’t know who to express it, you know ifi fintu ifwe fyatusunga natukula.
We are just a dirt population who want others to do things for us all the time.
We are generally lazy, irresponsible and care less. We throw garbage any how, through windows of buses, cars, on pavements as we walk etc
We simply accept living in dirt environments and we are content with that. Look at our roads, hospitals, schools etc.. We accept them in their current state and live with such sordid stuff. Its just our nature…dirt dirt and dirty
Can some one in the council do something. this is pathetic, where is the minister of local government and housing doing. who do you blame if cholera arrives again
Some of these negligent habits start from very innocent inclinations – like not collecting and clearing your plate after mealtimes… I shudder each time I watch people carelessly littering. Last time I was driving behind a Copperbelt-bound bus and a plastic bottle thrown from the bus hit my screen (fortunately did not break it). As sisi #6 puts it it is in the cultural drill for us to be thus negligent!
I also heard Ba Kapata saying that those who throw Garbage carelessly should be apprehended and taken to LCC fast track court..how many have they caught so far?Day in day out we see people throwing rubbish any how. And what happened to punishing those who do not tame there dogs in there yard? At the moment thereis alot of stray dogs moving about aimlessly and one wonders if these dogs are vaccinated. Is LCC waiting for a similar incident of a police officer who was biten by dogs to happen again?
Allow me to qoute this: ‘And Lusaka City Coucil Public Relations officer Henry Kapata has addmitted that the situation at the station is pathetic’ LT is this the only information you got after interviewing him? You should have asked him about whether they ‘re planing to keep the place clean or not, what are they trying to do to figure out the problem. These guyz ‘re jst chewin money for nothing, we hav ZEMA,ECZ etc For sure i think the gov shud jst be privatised it has its duties.
Invest in recycling plants recycle the paper, cans, plastic bottle and food waste for gardening…this is very profitable venture and reduces the need for landfill. Our Nigerian colleagues in Lagos have invested in a state of the art Israeli system for dealing with municipal solid waste which uses liquid anaerobic digestion (AD) technology.
It uses hydro-mechanical separation of waste; light materials float and are removed, leaving other materials to fall to the bottom which are also removed and organic content is held in suspension and pumped to digesters to produce methane which is turned to green electricity or biogas – the by product is clean and rich fertiliser or soil amendment for farmers.
Come on LCC lets think outside the box!!
The solution lies in awarding garbage collection contracts to private companies. Councils can’t run everything. I always cringe when I read that a council is purchasing a road grader. Councils just need to learn how to manage service contracts.
Whites should just come back to rule us. We have clearly failed to rule ourselves
Personally,I disagree wit sisi. See,I live in Windhoek and I visit my family in Zambia every 6 months so I see where th problem is. The availability of bins is one factor. The reason why someone would litter anywhere is becoz th rightful place to put th litter is unavailable. Take for example, pipo that pee on walls near a bar wit no toilet. Its not becoz they have no manners,NO! Its th absence of a toilet! So,if a person could fund me,I have th business plan and the source for cheaper bins sorted. The government can only give a go ahead to collect bins only after one has showed th interest and has the capacity to collect. We can’t rely on th govt. [email protected] is my email address. I would want to share my plans nd equity if anyone is willing to partner.
@3 Lonero you may have said that as a joke but serious metropoles like Paris N York and even Jo-burg do sub contract garbage collection to Private companies. The LCC need to be sued by cholera victims for them to realise that sanitation is a citizen’s right. They must not collect garbage as a favour to s but as an obligation. Its their duty to provide a clean environment. Instead of judges letting their mouths off at mini-skirt wearing girls they should be threatening councils that don’t deliver service with imprisonment!
