Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has been in power for the last ten years. With a record of prosperity to stand on during his reign, he is facing one of his challenging protests ever seen in this circular/Islamic country. Like PF and Mr Sata in Zambia, the prime minister is being accused of intolerance
“All dictators use the same methods, oppressing their people,” said Mehmet Haspinar.
“Tighter restrictions on alcohol sales and warnings against public displays of affection in recent weeks have provoked protests. Concern that government policy is allowing Turkey be dragged into the conflict in neighboring Syria by the West has also led to peaceful demonstrations.”
“It’s about democracy, and it’s going to get bigger,” said one demonstrator in a side street off Taksim Square, trying to rinse tear gas from his eyes.”
Lesson for PF , its coming- it may take two years or five years but it’s coming, unlike Zimbabweans , Zambians have tasted freedom, they cannot and will not be oppressed into submission, you can take that to the bank President Sata.
Let me agree with the words of MMD , President Nevers Mumba and I quote
“I call on all my colleagues, the Bishops, Prophets, Pastors, Priests and Reverends across the country to join us in condemning the act by the PF to enter into God’s house of worship and beat up worshipers. If we don’t stop the PF now, Zambia shall soon enter a “reign of terror” which shall not spare anyone.
Those church leaders and Zambians who think are safe, are terribly mistaken. When this violence begins it shall spare no one. I am sure the ZNBC Journalist would never have thought that they also would be beaten together with opposition. Violence has no eyes. It knows no political party and it knows no tribe. Let us stop it now, by stopping the PF from leading this country into chaos. If the PF Militia wing is not disbanded I see other political parties setting up their own, and the losers will be the Zambian people.”
To the Zambian people, better days are ahead of us, stay strong and be active, freedom will not come easy, I call upon the opposition parties, labour leaders, civil societies and especially the youth to begin planning peaceful protest across Zambia until we get back our beautiful country.
By Rodger Chali
So, take this as a WARNING !
There are no conditions in Zambia that will trigger off such massive protests as seen in Turkey.
The opposition parties are collectively incapable of organizing a well attended public meeting, they lack the driving spirit and the will and resilience to persevere.
if by mistake they start something, that could easily fizzle out within hours.
Roger Chali, dream on. its no crime to do so
Democracy is worth dying for, because it’s the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man.
Ronald Reagan
How can any thinking black man quote Ronald Reagan. Reagan’s definition of Democracy or freedom did not include the black man. Just ask the ANC in south africa or even Kaunda since he was at the butt of Reagan’s Anti_black freedom crusade
And where did Kaunda take us? I wish Reagan had kicked is butt harder
The tipping point is fast coming.People can not stand being oppressed for long.
Don’t say the people of Zambia,go it alone, you guys have enough time to waste i don’t am not coming for the protest if you had to call them……
Truth of the matter violence knows no one,,,if these protests took off and turned violent (God forbid) you and l will not spared unless we have got means to fly out
Misplaced! Lack substance ba Chali. Ba Nevers tabakwata agenda for this country.
The only sure bulwark of continuing liberty is a government strong enough to protect the interests of the people, and a people strong enough and well enough informed to maintain its sovereign control over the goverment.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
In Zambia we can start our own Turkey.. the people have the will. Anyone who has taken a human being for granted has lived to regret. One thing we know is that Sata’s time is coming and its coming fast.
Am currently in Turkey and its amazing to be a witness of history….
Ba engineer, u are not using yo head. Look at Libya n Eygpt removing those leaders was on problem out but a bigger one came in uniting everyone as they still had no confidence in the people that took over.wake n be informed that violence is no key to sort out issues.turkey n zambia as a Christian nation have different beliefs n it’s not the first time they’re doing these
I hate pessimist like you the writer of this piece. Those protests will only happen in your dreams.
Comparing what is happening in Turkey to the situation in Zambia is like comparing HH to Obama. It’s silly.
Bo TheEngineer(Australia), with fingers forever poised on the keyboard and an opinion on every topic under the sun, but with power to influence none! What a life!
Thats the beauty of freedom… and am happy i live in a country which respects it.
The Engineer (Australia!) – you are free to be a witless imbecile in any country
Lusaka Times why have you published such nonsense?
Its the wind of change dear! They have seen that turning a blind eye on what is happening on the ground and resorting to sports updates was making them lose popularity!! Business sense though..lots of it
Turkey=Islamic state
Zambia=Christian state
Whether you like it or not religion and tirbal wars are what trigger such massive protests and Zambia is far from it believe me. Go on the street and ask the kaponyas they will tell you that they wont eat protests, people might demonstrate for a day and it ends there. UNZA is even quiet now, thats why your friends have decided to take the Black Friday to a church because the so called massive protests by students have died a natural dearth. My brother forget about your wish it will never happen not even in Hell……
Dear Muso, Turkey is not an islamic state. Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey made it a secular state. In fact, the vast majority of protesters want to preserve the secular nature of Turkey.
@ Munalula, exactly right – Turkey is not an Islamic state, it is secular and that is what the protesters wish to preserve!
When LT writes that Turkey is a “circular/Islamic country” I’m not even sure what they mean. Personally, I always thought of Turkey as more of a rectangle…..
Turkey is a secular state one of the reasons the spot light is on them is that they want to join the EU and its a tourists destination especially at this time of the year for Western Europeans.
I am equally shocked why Lusaka times is in the forefront of encouraging violence in Zambia. In whose interest are you acting?
Look at that picture again, do you see any acts of violence? Coward!
This is the most stupid article.
I think media houses you should censor your posts, some posts can fuel conflicts. LT dont sow seeds of conflicts
TO THE CONTRARY, PEOPLE WILL RISE UP LIKE THIS AGAINST HH FOR BEING TRIBAL AND ANTI-GOVERNMENT. INFACT THEY ROSE UP LIKE THIS IN NOVEMBER 2011. AND THEY HAVE BEEN RISING UP LIKE THIS EVERY BY ELECTION IN SUPPORT OF SATA AND THE PF. SO DO NOT BE DELUDED. AND 10 YEARS FROM NOW THEY SHALL RISE UP LIKE THIS IN SUPPORT OF NAREP OR MAGANDE. AND SURELY NEVER HH.
Use lowercase please. You’ll sound less of a lunatic.
When the “House of God”, if I can call it that, is turned into a den of inappropriate behaviour, it loses reverence. Read your Bibles truthfully and stop misleading your flock. Jesus will deny you when he comes back.
I prefer to live now. I will not defer my reactions or actions to “when Jesus comes”. Nonsense, just live your life, don’t waste it.
The Pf cadres are awake on this article and actively defending their interests.
This article is so childish not worth publishing. How I just wonder why someone can be happy about violence…calling on people to riot and destroy property. What a non sensically stup.idy idea. Shame on you.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
Great article, declaring Psalm 91 over the writer and his family. Peaceful mature solutions are needed in Zambia even a peaceful revolution would be very beneficial.
Great article, declaring Psalm 91 over the writer and his family. Peaceful mature solutions are needed in Zambia even a peaceful revolution would be very beneficial
but sme pipo re useless this guy who posted this is a cadre vry stupid nd unreasonable jst slip if u don’t hav anythg to say hw can u call on protests for wat we don’t want violence in Zambia go to Turkey if u want protests.
Peaceful protest is part of exercising your freedom. Don’t be afraid.
Ifi fyabupuba. Turkey na Zambia natupusana, ala iwe. Pa Zambia nifi fine fye efyo ikalaba lyonse.
Peace and prosperity to mother Zambia.
Ba Chali, if you feel oppressed, fight your own fight with the government, stop calling on other people to join you, just because you want to profit out of the confusion that would be created.
The guy has exposed the cowardice of Zambians. Stop talking from behind your keyboards. When it comes to action you’re all about “but we want peace for mother Zambia..etc”.
Zambians are foolish and passive. Just stop complaining please.
The article is true. It all starts very simple. It started very simple in Tunisia, with jus a vegetable seller. It was a simple start in Libya with Muamar insulting his people as rats. It was a simple start in Egypt. It is all simple and does not need any imaginable conducive environment. It does not need political parties. It is just the people getting feed up with the system. We are tired of PF and its chimbwe no plan style.
We have a different social culture bakaamba. Study some sociology.
@chindakwa
Scared much? Or PF cadre?
There is a message going around already for Friday as the beginning of the protests. You are the witnesses whether you like it or not. It is our (his)story
If individuals bring politics into places of worship, then the individuals will know what to expect. Violence. Keep places of worship sacred. God will never forget you.
Makasa Kasonde uli cipuba.
Cathedral of the Holy Cross- need I say more? Remove that log in your eyes please
Poeple can only take so much. Right now Zambians are patient and giving the PF time, but fif the PF take this for granted they will live to regret their actions. Sata please start by removing Winter Kabimba, he is your biggest liability
“All dictators use the same methods” Utter nonsense. First of all the Turkish prime minister is not a dictator. His an elected official by the people. The same applies to Sata whether we like him or not he was democratically elected by the people. Whats happening in turkey is a batter between the circular world and the religious world. The all thing started because the government wants to build a business park (Mosque) on a green area in Istanbul. Trying to compare this with what is going on pa zed is like comparing oranges to apples.
Ba Lskboy. so mwebeni ati analysis. Frankly the bitterness that is expressed on FB and here on LT is a full proof that things can deteriorate to the same scale as Turkey. In fact, most of the comments here talking about Turkey saying it was just a building issue shows that they are not following the riots in Turkey. Remember the protests have gone beyond the park and there is a call for Erdogan to step down because his actions have largely been dictatorial. He thinks he is a Mr know it all and should not listen to people who voted for him. Is that not the case with PF and Sata? DOes Sata consult? Does not Sata pursue a “chase strategy” without consulting? Does not Sata and PF do things without regard for the feelings of the electorate wither there are Christians or not? etc…
Iwe Roger am disappointed in you mudula; you are too quick to connect the dots at times its far better you do your research before you send your articles for publishing or public consumption.
You are Roger’s father? Does he care whether you are disappointed or not? I don’t think he wrote this specifically for you. Some people agree and like his piece.
The government in turkey wants to reduce public shows of affection and curb alcohol sales. If that was implemented in Zambia, in 1 month 1 day 9 minutes and some seconds we would be a second world country. Zambians, all he read was curbing the amount of katata, seven days na chibuku na visikisa and he wrote this article. hahahahahaha.
Ba Roger has disappointed me mwebantu, is he watching the same world news as everyone else where he is in Canada?
Torino, curb your disappointment with Roger and explain what you disagree with and why.
Tarino i always tell people you can have PHD and a grade 7 will have more common sense than you.
When f*ols like the the author of this trash say they agree with Nevers Mumber’s call on people to rise using their pulpuits; why are you then surprised that the battle is taken to you in your silly churches? If you call for violence, you should be prepared to be met with violence. So dont complain when cadres beat the crap out of you. May I suggest that the government extends the withdrrawal of usbsidies to these pseudo-churches and make then start poaying tax immediately! They have been living off the poor innocent Zambians for too long.
Any person who calls herself Salin Palin has a lot of issues and this is typical of what you have become lady!
@ Sata’s Mind & Bird’s Eye ; Why hiding your identity when you’re one and the same person?People you’re encouraging to protest will be beaten and killed when you are here safe.Go and do the protests in Zambia, that’s how courageous people behave. This issue of wanting to be famous is really bad.Be careful with freedom of expression,it’s a two way thing.
@mwanawakwitu you are funny….I can imagine the chaos in Zambia if alcohol and chewing were curbed….
PASTOR MUMBA AS A MAN OF GOD I DON’T EXPECT YOU TO THINK LIKE THIS. ITS DISAPPOINTING.
The use of uppercase is not well considered. It is said to have connotations with pomposity, being indecent and crude, to put it mildly.
It’s considered shouting in netiquette.
